This is just about a perfect movie. I think the first 3 are all great and I think the reason the latter versions are not so much ( though still pretty fun ) is because the trilogy is Will and Elisabeth's story, Jack is only a supporting character. And he does that so well. What Johnny Depp did with this character is nothing short of phenomenal. All those little quirks and mannerisms are all him. You can find the script online and none of this is part, it only says : Jack does this, Jack say that, etc... All that extra is just Johnny Depp. 11/10 performance, an instant iconic character.

Not only did this film show that a film based on an amusement park ride could work, it helped revive the pirate film genre, which had been dormant after the failure of Cutthroat Island in 1995. Johnny Depp stole the show as Captain Jack Sparrow. He said he thought of pirates as the rock stars of their day and so based Jack on rock legends like Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. This is also another film where the fight choreography was done by the great Bob Anderson, the man responsible for the best sword fights in all cinema. Sailors are amongst the most superstitious people you will ever meet, alongside actors, professional athletes (especially baseball players), and Catholics.

First, my recommendation for a chick flick is two different films depending on what you're interested in. My favorite rom-com is return to me. A lot of people like the notebook, I didn't. Return to me has mini driver, David duchovny and the late great Carroll O'Connor. It is a wonderful film that was directed by Bonnie Hunt. I'm not going to give you any spoilers, it is exceptional. The second is for Love of the game, Kevin Costner and the amazing and wonderful Kelly Preston whom we lost way too young. With the conclusion of the baseball season and the start of the world series around the corner, that is both a guy flick with the baseball and a rom-com with the romance. It is a wonderful film. And just so you understand the film, a perfect game is one of the rarest feats in baseball. That means nobody gets on base, no hits, no runs, no errors. It has happened fewer than 30 times in the history of baseball and every team plays 152 games per year. The only thing that is more rare in baseball is an unassisted triple Play. And lastly, this film holds a special place in my heart. I went to see it with my kids right before the end of my marriage. My family was getting broken apart but my kids and I went to see this film and for a couple of hours I got to step away from the misery. When he steps off of that little dinghy onto the dock. I just kind of lean back in my chair and thought I'm just going to enjoy this without thinking about anything else. My kids and I watched them all together over the years. So it has a special place in my heart. And you're right, the soundtrack is absolutely Epic.
