enjoyed the video. for a WMO recycling project I want to install a brass bulkhead into a barrel so I can control the draining from the bottom to the centrifuge. I figure the brass will hold up better than plastic. it comes with a washer but will it seal better if I use something like JB Weld on it? or is it unnecessary? I'm concerned about the effect of petroleum on the bulkhead and seal. thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Where are the fill and drain holes located? I can figure out the rest.

how did you connect the motor shaft to the torque converter?

Also it looks like you started with the water lip left on the top of the torque converter, the last picture with it running looks like a little smaller did you have to reduce the size of the lip? Thanks

This thing probably works better than some of the production units out there, the diameter of that TC is much larger than the 8"-10" drums most units seem to come with, and if you're spinning at the same RPM they do then that larger diameter is giving you much higher G-forces, _much_ higher. I kind of want to make something like this now just for shits and giggles, maybe spin the drum at 10k-15k RPM with a brushless hobby motor and see just how much of the fines can be removed... or how many RPMs it takes to explode a modified oil filled torque converter lol...

Is that an inverter duty motor? or just a regular 3450 rpm 60hz being overdriven with that vfd? I have all this crap laying around, id really like to to build one, just a little unsure if i can spin the motor i have that hard, or if i need to find a different one. i already have a couple vfd's. Are you running the motor at 120hz, 400hz or something in between?

Looks like a lot of splash out oil thats not really getting cleaned and just being ejected as gets poured in .I tried the converter bowl thing and just pita getting fins/guts out.I think because I cut mine from the other side and used the plug side to weld the coupling to for motor. I gave up trying to chisel out the inside fins/viens .I went with a large driveshaft brake drum that was 12.5 dia and 8" high for the outside case.If anything happened and bowl got loose at 35400rpm it wasn't getting out of that 3/8 thick drum. I had 2.5 stock turned down to fit brake drum hub hole and then had 5/8 drilled into it on motor side. Used I believe a ford escape brake drum which was welded to the hub after I drilled shaft set screws and tube holes.the hub stuck up into the bowl about 2.5 inches.I drilled holes into the hub at 4 places across from each other towards bottom so once oil dropped into center it could only go through the threaded tubes which ended towards the bottom about 1 inch from the wall. I had a 1/4 alumin plate cut the same dia as the top of brake drum(then had the about 6" circle cut out its center ) in 10 places drilled holes around it outside and the drum,, tapped holes for counter sunk large machine screws (so I could remove top and clean out bowl easy) I believe once I shaved off the extra outside steel humps on brake drum it it was like 10.5-11", I think the 4 tubes I used were just cut from 8" 1/8 or 1/4 black iron pipe from lowes an screwed into the hubs so the oil had to follow path to the bottom outside wall without getting chance to splash out of bowl before getting cleaned.Took like making 3-4 hubs(including 3 drums) before I got to adding tubes to force oil to bottom outside wall and was happy with way it cleaned.I went with 1.5hp motor which has done well for 5 years on 8-10hr runs..I did have the hub/drum bowl balanced once I had setup up and going.I tried to use a pool pump motor and it didnt last long at all so I balanced bowl and bought a new 115/220 1.5hp 12amp motor and been great.

Here I thought I had an original idea this is the second one I found tonight that uses a torque converter. Oh well, how did you cut the front of the torque converter off, did you put it on a mill?

I'm in the process of making one from a torque converter. I cut it smaller with a torch then cut the center open and mounted a 1.375 inch shaft in it and welded it while idicating it true. Getting the guts out are a terible job.

Can you show some of the finished centrifuged oil ? Is is clear / clean or still black but clean ?
@tryduck6993
@tryduck6993 2 жыл бұрын
Usually it depends on how fast and long you run it. Some are ok with black wmo run through a pass . But it can be cleaned to a dark brown color , Given enough time and passes you could get it to about same brownish color it was new, but your not getting it clear like water. You waste a lot more energy getting it as clean as it came, after all once it is cleaned to a safe point of dark brown , thinned thats about as far as you really need to go , past that your just wasting time , energy. But hey If thats what one wants , they can heat and rerun it till its acceptable to their standards.Plenty of places to get wmo free so if you want to add in extra costs getting it super super clean then there is nothing wrong with that.Most times if you get it from dealers/shops/businesses it will be a mix of trans/oil/cvt/gear oil/brake fluid/water/coolant so it isnt really come clear.about the best is brownish , that ya can see through...

I would like to know how you made the fitting adaptor to attach the torque converter base to the 5/8 or 3/4 motor shaft

@@tryduck6993 yes but its difficult to machine a big diameter bowl to a 5/8 - 3/4 motor shaft.. ,005 + out on outside of bowl you get noticeable vibration starting at 1700 rpm . I couldnt go more than 2400 as didnt want to damage bearings and have to duck and run .

How does the oil escape from the ce.ter bowl? Looks easy to build. Maybe a picture of the collection area and outlet.

Yep you cant image Colin , it saves you serious money if you use 30-200 gallons diesel week.I think I am at .07 a kw on power so bill each month is under 100. Use maybe 600-800kw month so once the power company adds in their BS cut called transmission fees its about 80-100 month.Usually I run 8-10hrs per 50-60 gal. Plus what power I use for house and shop.I really thinking about going to TN and buying pallet of them 400watt panels with 2 years use for 145each. Tired of paying power company BS bogus fees now they deregulated power.
