They are easy to watch because the host is real, down to earth and knows what he is talking about, and I learn a lot of stuff. Also big props to Todd for doing videos at your age. Most guys on KZbin are young and have a lot of energy, but you are knowledgeable and easy going (in a good way) and you see you have a passion for car detailing.

@Nat N By adding multiple layers of different products...yes, that is exactly what you are trying to do, which was his point. The chemists who designed the coating that you paid for know what they are doing. If you don't believe this, don't get the coating, that's pretty simple.

Todd! You were the one that brought me into detailing over 5 years ago when I purchased my own vehicle. It went from being a hobby to more of a side gig I do now! I forgot the name of the individual who I used to read articles ages ago about a Nighthawk black pearl TL being corrected. A really excellent video that explains the do's and DON'TS of washing and maintaining that ceramic coat or good sealant. Blows all the myths into the bin thank god!! I thought that about detailing sprays and this confirms it. Thus use a Pre Wash Foam and wash and after wash spray that suits what you have on the car. I know Car Pro has a Foam pre wash that both breaks down grime and then adds a ceramic type protection to the paint of a car WITHOUT a existing sealant,wax or coating. But I assume with a top quality Ceramic coated car you would use a PH neutral Foam plus PH neutral bucket wash to clean car properly without harming the coating then after drying hit with CURE,Over Coat, Spritz or Reload type of spray. I think this is what you are saying here. Enjoy all your videos and great in depth tips on looking after your car. Even here in Australia where its been crazy HOT!!!!! Cheers mate. Just one more question, would using Cosmic Spritz like you do over your existing Ceramic coat whether CQUARTZ, GYEON or KAMIKAZI give it even better gloss or as I read using Titanium in their mixture give a greater WOW sparkle factor. I do have a sense of adventure with trying different things.

Todd, for winter maintenance of a coated car what about rinseless washing...when done properly. Will the polymers in ONR leave anything behind that would have a negative impact on a coating? I don't have access to running water in the winter and I don't see myself going to the local car wash dragging 2 buckets and a bunch of wash gear along. Thanks and appreciate your input to the community!

Hi! I am absolutely loving your channel! It's helping me alot to maintain my car. I just had my car coated with Gyeon Prime and would like to use Cure to help maintain the coating. If I want to use Cure during the drying process, should I just spray some on my waffle/silk drying towel? Or directly on the panel I want to dry? Or am I better off just normally drying my car with the towels (without Cure) and then go over each panel with a microfiber cloth and Cure?

Great video! I have learned a lot over the years from autogeek, AMMO, and other you tubers and just discovered you guys and love your content. But I have a question on this vid. I understand the concept of not putting a wax on top of a coating as you are only enjoying the wax at that point. But by doing so would you not also prolong the life of the coating by protecting it from environmental exposure? Other than the $1000+ vanity waxes that come in amazing packaging/presentation but don't seem to do anything more than a $150-300 pot, coatings are the most expensive part of paint protection. Plus it never seems like coating maintenance sprays deliver as much as they promise regardless of brand. Thanks for any advice you can provide!
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 3 жыл бұрын
A good coating maintenance is going to last longer on the coating than any wax will, and is going to be much quicker to apply. So given that, you have no reason to even use the wax.

Foaming is always our preferred method, however most people do not have a pressure washer. I would simply use Bathe in the foam cannon, then Bathe again in your wash buckets.

The best looks come from the polishing / paint correction you do before coating. Once you apply Overcoat (or similar), you won't increase the looks by adding anything else to it.

@@Esotericdetail interesting. So if my car is ceramic coated and if i keep applying ceramic coating maintenance spray very time I wash my car for the next 10 years, can we basically say that my car will be ceramic coated for next 10 years? Also i wanted to ask you, my bonnets clear coat is badly faded but the paint is still there in good condition, will a ceramic coat act like clear coat to protect the paint or will my bonnet need clear coat first? I used some strip wash to get rid of all the stuff I had tried on the car before I knew that you should only use products specifically for coated cars. This has been my routine since. Rinseless wash (Wolfgang Uber, recently American Detail Garage Wipeout) Followed up with XPC Tec582 Ceramic Detail Spray. (Applied after wash and dry) Once a month, 2 bucket wash with Gyeon Bathe + Followed by a coat of Gyeon Cure What do you think of my routine as it now? I just coated my SUV last week with Kamikaze - Miyabi/ISM and topped it with Polish Angel - High Gloss. I let it sit in my garage for 3 days then I took it to the mountains and now it is dirty and assume some of that grime is salt from the roads. How soon can I shampoo the car after I applied the coating? 2 weeks? I was thinking of rinsing it off for now with just water but the water where I live is extremely hard and if I just rinse the grime off now without properly drying I'm afraid of major water spots. What do you recommend?

You should be fine since you have the High Gloss on it as well. Just wash it using a pH neutral soap, then maybe re-apply the High Gloss this time since it was just recently coated. Then you could cut that down to every 4th wash or so!

Here's my dilemma. I coated my vehicle (Kamikaze Miyabi/ISM topped with PolishAngel High Gloss) and have it garaged most the time. I only bring it out on a nice day or if I absolutely have to on a rainy day then it goes right back in the garage. I am looking for a solution to clean the vehicle after these situations without having to do a traditional carwash since its mostly dust and rain water im concerned about. The rain water runs down the sideview mirrors and it drives me crazy to see it dry up as a water mark. I know you frown upon using ONR on a coated vehicle but do you have a remedy? I have a master blaster revolution and was thinking of blow drying it after taking it out in the rain but I'm worried I might blow dirt against the paint and create tiny scratches. What procedure or product do you recommend for this type of situation?
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 6 жыл бұрын
You might not like the answer, but the simple solution is to just wait until the next scheduled wash. Once the car has been drive, either on a clear day or a rainy day, the best solution is a wash. Granted, you could do other measures, but you do it knowing that you're sacrificing the possibility of slight marring / swirls in favor of a car that is constantly "clean".

You're welcome. By jet wash I assume you just mean spray down with a pressure washer? You don't need to use a special foaming solution either...just add about 1 part Bathe to 5 parts water in your foam cannon, and soak it that way. Unless it's very dirty, you don't need to rinse off the foamed Bathe between doing that and your traditional 2-bucket method with Bathe. Assuming you're using a pressure washer, and that the car isn't exceptionally dirty, I'd rinse, foam with Bathe, then go right into your 2-bucket wash using Bathe. I hope this helps...

On a coated car, what would you recommend to use to take off bird droppings safely? My go to wold be to soak it with detail spray and lightly wipe off with a microfiber but as you said in the video it would leave the properties of the detail spray behind. Would taking it off with detail spray (for lubrication) and then coming back with water/IPA solution or Gyeon prep to remove the residue be the best way to attack this?

Why not use a wax or sealant on top of the coating? Yes it's not as strong of a protective layer, but won't it at the very least add sacrificial layers on top of the coating? I just can't see why it's a bad thing; can it harm the coating?
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 6 жыл бұрын
If you want a sacrificial layer, why not use a product that is designed specifically for that?! The natural benefits of a good coating far outweighs any little "protection" that a quick detailer may provide. And since there are so many formulations of coating, quick detailers, sealants, etc., there's no way to know exactly which ones may actually harm the coating itself. And if you're talking about coatings that provide a warranty, they would be very specific about which products you can use with them because they cannot guarantee the effectiveness or durability of their product if mixed with "product x".

I'll let the experts speak to specifics of your scenario (if there are any negatives to your needs) as we're in far different climates but apparently have the same 'affliction' regarding black cars. Up here, for me, a products' abilities with respect to rain, water spotting and staying clean are of primary importance and these are areas where Overcoat truly excels, and it does seem to help keep the post-wash/dry dust gathering down as well.

So once again the industry has confusing information. Both AMMONYC and Auto Geek talk about layering products for higher protection. In fact AMMONYC even had a video on it. What makes their products different? Or are they harming the properties?
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 6 жыл бұрын
There will always be differences of opinion for sure. In many cases, you can layer without any problems, so you also need to sort through what can, and what can't be layered safely and effectively. The problem is when people simply think they have access to 3 different protection products, that they can combine them all. The biggest mistake we see (as mentioned in the video), is when people want to combine a multitude of maintenance products that are designed to do the same basic thing. One thing that makes us different is that we will tell it like it is, as opposed to just telling people to blindly layer products so that we can sell more. And if a manufacturer says that you can safely combine product (a) with a layer of product (b), then topped with (c), then by all means...go for it.

great informational videos...must admit they are interesting...as an old school wash and wax guy though, all these coatings and applications seems a bit too much - granted everyone has their obsessions, but where does the coatings concept end...talking only coatings and the numerous brands and characteristics associated to each one it feels like an old fashioned shell game/3 card monte - with ppf out of the question for me (i'd miss the intimate connection between my hand and the car) :), i thought a good ceramic coating for ease of maintenance come wash time would be great....the more i watch the videos, the more i think back to no coatings at all, and simple weekly washes and a wax now and then

The only thing that is more involved is the coating process itself. After that, it's easy. So in your wax scenario, you're re-applying every now and then. You're doing the exact same thing with coating, except for using a wax, you're using a coating-maintenance product.
