I also have had a lot of success finishing off with Gyeon Ceramic Detailer every 2-3 washes. For me my number 1 ceramic coating maintenance is meguiar's M799 pro hybrid ceramic bead booster!, it will never roll back the hydrophobic effect and it is very durable in pure use! So smooth and slippery, shiny I love it!. In pre-wash shampoos, I love the autobrite magifoam, because it has a very good corrosion inhibitor, the brake discs don't rust as quickly as with some other shampoos!. But there are so many choices on the market, because carpro descale, lift, gyeon restart wash, are also excellent products!.
@nicorallysport Жыл бұрын
I also like to do my own tests, because sometimes we are surprised by the results. Example I have meguiar's paint protect 365, which is a polymer product, alone it is nothing extraordinary, it applies easily, is very soft and smooth but the hydrophobic effect is not great, it is more sheeting than beautiful beading. But after some tests I realized that it could be an excellent topper!. On ceramic coatings that are not very smooth, not very soft and not very slippery, meguiar's paint protect binds perfectly. I had a cheap ceramic coating (xml ceramic & Graphene Coating) whose hydrophobic effect is not great, and to the touch in the hand it is very catchy, and it is a sheeting coating, when I topper it with meguiar's paint protect 365, the next day I had a sick hydrophobic effect!, crazy pearls, with pearls that rolled on the paint leaving a completely dry wake!. Also very resistant because I had trouble releasing the hydrophobic effect 😮 as if a not very smooth and slippery coating was like an excellent base coat for meguiar's paint protect 365 and reticulated as it should be. It's so weird at times the results obtained.

question, just added a ceramic coating last week. 1) when would i add the EXO coating? after a year? 2) wouldn't the base coating reject the new added layer of EXO? 3). For coating with EXO on top of a base, how many layers would I do? 4). What's wrong with bead maker on top of a ceramic coating?
@STATUSDETAIL2 ай бұрын
@@jefferrrson1x first of all they now make EXO V5. So I recommend that because it's way better than the previous version. You can put V5 over your base coat a few hours after you install. You can also install it anytime after is a maintenance item. 6 months 1 year 2 years etc. Base coats will never reject EXO V5. V5 is designed as a topper It is designed to bond to a ceramic coating and fortify it as a topper. One really thick layer is the minimum. You can definitely do two or three but I think you start to see diminishing returns. Bead maker is polymer based. You want something that is ceramic based. Ceramic base sealants do a better job of bonding and actually giving you proper adhesion and protection with a ceramic coated car. A polymer-based product is more likely to not adhere and bond correctly and will basically be very temporary. Products like that or developed to bond in fortify wax and sealant. Ceramic is a totally different ballgame. Nothing bad will happen but in my opinion your dollars won't be working for you the same way.

Great video. I have a question about how to go about restoring the ceramic on my 2020 Buick. I had it do4ne straight out of dealer to me and have been having the guy who done my car do the yearly maintenance. First year he was reasonable $150, 2nd year $250, 3rd $350. can't afford this guy anymore and would like to maintain myself but over time there are a lot of swirls and scratches that really annoy me. I am investing in a buffer and pads to see if I can get it back to close to factory condition. How do I begin? how far should I take it down?
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
I wonder why the price changed every year. If it was the same service each time that's a bit interesting. If the car needs more then it sounds about right. This is a tough question to answer. If your getting a lot of swirls that are building up then the only way to remove them is polishing. Polishing is abrasive and will remove or at the very least hurt your ceramic durability. The more you polish the more you remove of.the ceramic and eventually you remove it all If your ok with recoating the car after then polish the laiito your desired level then coat it. Otherwise we don't have many options without getting overly complicated for a KZbin comment. Based on your comment it sounds like you should polish with carpro reflect or carpro Ulta cut. Depends how bad the swirls are and what kind of paint you have. Soft/hard. Then apply a new coating like mohs Evo or crystal serum light for example. Then follow steps in this video for your Maintenance.

Thanks so much for the advice. I am seriously thinking of trying to correct it myself after watching your video. Some of the videos on KZbin freak me out but your are very to the point. Car pro reset won’t break down the q2 wax every wash? 19:54
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
Theoretically yes. Also all soaps technically degrade wax and sealant protection slowly. But reset is a normal gentle car soap. Something like descale or iron x soap will definitely hit durability significantly. I think the name reset confuses people because they think it's going to fully remove everything on the car and reset it. What it really means is that it's putting you back to perfect like when you picked your car up fresh from ceramic coating.

Question: I use CarPro Reset soap and recently got CarPro Reload 2.0. I washed, air dried with an air cannon, and applied Reload 2.0. Can I use HydrO2 before air drying and then Reload 2.0 after, or are they redundant? Also, my car felt like it had contaminants when applying the Reload 2.0. Can I clay a ceramic-coated car? My car also has full-body PPF; does that change anything?
@STATUSDETAIL2 ай бұрын
@@Jason00331 great questions. You can use hydro during the rinse and then reload like a drying aid after blow dry. I do this often. If I want a fast wash or the car is still silly hydrophobic I skip hydro. I use hydro on wheels basically every wash tho. You can clay a ceramic coated car. You can clay PPF but it won't always work as well. When using clay on actual paint that's coated you risk potential swirls. I like to clay when I know I'm going to polish after. But sometimes you need to clay and it won't make sense to polish after as this would degrade the ceramic. It should be pretty difficult to swirl your PPF. But contamination often digs into the PPF and won't be removed as easily as clear coat contamination. It will probably work just fine but without a car in front of me I can't say for sure. I hope this was helpful 🙂

Thanks again for your help!
@STATUSDETAIL2 ай бұрын
@@Jason00331 That's also a good question and I think you'll find lots of different answers on the internet. I like to wash the car and get all the dirt off. If your car is hydrophobic like it sounds yours is I would do a really express fast blow dry and then put iron x on. I prefer to have direct contact with no water in the way when possible. In general that's a product you should use as needed so if you do it in 3 months and it turns the car purple then do it again in 3 months. Even that follow up 6 months in wash it doesn't turn purple then you might just be doing it too often so then go to every four or five or six months intervals etc. Iron x is strong and like clay. Use when needed not for fun or on a routine unless you know your getting heavy build up and that routine is combating the constant buildup. Good examples would be cars that are parked outside on extremely busy streets or in general doing a lot of miles.

CSL and exo on motorcycle. Yes👍 Cure can be used as drying aid after blow dry or just as a spray wipe wax after drying. Prep is used to remove residue. That's it's main job. You should not need it before every cure application unless for example you did a wash with tar remover. Then I might want prep to really ensure I got everything off residue wise Preps main intended use is to remove polishing residue. So after paying correction you would use prep. Prep makes the surface completely perfect and clean of any residue or chemicals and then you can apply ceramic or sealant

@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
Gyeon evo is the most durable option but it's also basically re-ceramic coating the car. Can coach your most durable option and would make a lot of sense. Key two wax is a great option but it's the least durable in most quote unquote sacrificial. Would I typically do after about a 1-year mark is reapply EXO on my personal cars or I'm customer cars to come back for maintenance. Typically they have CSL on EXO. So we basically service the top coat and reapply it. Everything we're talking about is going to add new sacrificial protection so there's really no wrong option here but if you're looking for an additional six 12 months of strong durability I would say can coat or EXO are my true recommendations

Also do you have any preferences between Gyeon Ceramic Detailer and Gyeon Cure? i ended up buying ceramic detailer because i've heard many people comment negatively on cure because it streaks easily, and mind you, i have a glossy black car. Would you still recommend Gyeon cure over Gyeon ceramic detailer. I also bought Gyeon quick detailer, with the idea that i would use ceramic detailer every other wash.
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
@@easytiger266 ceramic detailer is great. As is cure. Cure is just stronger and more durable. You can also slightly diltue cute to kinda sorta make ceramic detailer. No wrong option between those. Wetcoat is a great ceramic topper but to get a true "topper" you'd want something like exo from Gtechniq. You could use that annually or every 6 months on a clean car. Basically whenever you want a big boost in gloss and hydrophobics. Use tar and iron x when you feel like you have tar and iron depots you should not use it for fun. If you go like a year without needing it you could do a annual wash with them to ensure surface is perfect then do exo for example. If you build up a lot of iron or hit fresh tar then obviously they will be great Thanks for watching and shopping my store!!

Can you dilute down the cure? It would be great to have one product at different dilution rations to be a ceramic spray, a quick detailer and a drying aid
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
That's a great question. Especially because some detailers like to dilute cure! Some people swear by diluting it because it makes it slightly less prone to streaking. If you want maximum durability and water beading you want to use it straight. But diluting it definitely works and gives you better value.

I appreciate all of the details, steps, product types, and brands and uses. Here’s my question: if I have a 2,3,5,7+ yr ceramic coating applied by a pro or even do it myself but I’m adding ceramic sprays, drying aid’s, ceramic waxes, toppers etc that last 2 to 3 months or 6 to 9 months respectively, then how can you tell if the actual ceramic coating applied will actually last the time claimed by the manufacturer? Once I get my paint looking good, I can use a maintenance topper, ceramic wax like Gyeon Q2 or Gyeon Quarts One, Gyeon Wetcoat, Turtlewax Hybrid line of products, Jade Reboot, Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Wax, Opti-Coat, Gtechniq, Angel Wax (the list is endless) all of which will add months of protection on their own. So where is the benefit of the ceramic coating?
@STATUSDETAIL2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question! The answer is very simple You can absolutely dial in your paint and then for example use wet coat and cure repeatedly and keep the car in incredible shape. If you end up using a harsh chemical to wash your car you will strip that much faster if you get a little busy and aren't able to wash the car for a month or two it'll end up stripping everything potentially. In harsh weather or you wash with harsh chemicals because you're getting lots of contamination. The same car with a base layer of a real ceramic coating that's being maintenanced with those strong sealants will not see any issues in the same above situations. Real ceramic coatings will always be more hydrophobic more scratch resistant more chemical resistant give UV resistance in overall last a very long time. But just because we have that on the car doesn't mean we should treat it like it has some kind of permanent armor shield and neglect it on the maintenance side.

For starters pure is a base coat and exo is chemically designed to bond to crystal serum light or crystal serum ultra(top coat). People just make the mistake of using exo as a base coat. It can be a base coat but I don't recommend that. Pure is actually one of my most hated coatings and products of all time. The application is atrocious. It's like spreading honey on your car and then trying to remove it with dry microfibers. Mohs Evo is a pretty good product and I have a video uploaded and scheduled for that. Actually doing a little durability test series on it. Exo is effortless to apply and you really don't use much so it's easy to layer and if you have multiple cars to do it will go a long way. We use exo as a ceramic sacrificial layer. Designed to be reapplied at your maintenance details to ensure maximum water beading all the time. If we polish light marks out exo goes back on. Basically always protecting the base coat. The same system works of you do mohs Evo base coat and top with exo or do syncro Evo. Syncro has mohs and skin. Skin is gyeon version of exo

Can you gelp me out with the steps required before maintenance coating with EXO? I already ceramic coated it last year and want to do the maintenance coating. Just wondering if it’s just a regular wash and panel wipe? Iron remover, clay bar? Thanks in advance.
@STATUSDETAIL8 ай бұрын
If the paint feels as it did when it had fresh ceramic then you will wash. Gyeon Prep. Apply. If it feels really gritty like sand paper then likely needs clay. If you see it in build up use some iron decon. If you have some light swirls a fast light polish will act into od like mild clay and also remove light swirls. Especially after polish id apply heavy coat of exo. Using a string soap like Gyeon foam or carpro lift at strong dilution is a good idea. Products like Gyeon restart can be helpful too. I hope this helps!

What would you say about Gyeon Can Coat as an alterantive to Wax and Exo V4?
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
It can be a great alternative. You just need to be really careful about the install. You need to spray it into the towel in a way that makes it very hard for the mist to get into the air. That over spray mist can get on the car and cause big issues. So it's not advised in small areas with another car close by for example.

If I’m going to put a layer of exo on my car like your saying for a yearly maintenance do I have to use iron remover then apply exo over it?
@STATUSDETAIL2 жыл бұрын
Only if needed. Iron remover is kinda like clay. I call it chemical clay vs clay bar being mechanical clay. We only clay a car if it needs it. So rough surface or looks to have iron contamination in it. As a general practice if you drive a lot and car sits outside you can iron remover one or two times a year usually. Depends where you live and how the car is being used.

This is by far the most informative and honest video I've seen on ceramic coating maintenance, and I've watched a LOT recently, especially from some of the bigger channels (PTO) Question: you recommended against using bead maker, what about their dream maker? Or is that just as bad? Also as far as QD/drying aids go, any thoughts on just good ole ONR and a good quality MF towel?
@STATUSDETAIL2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found me! Lots of videos you might like including a review of mohs Evo coming out now! Just released at 9am. I'd use ceramic based products on ceramic. I'd rather see you use exlizer or ceramic detailer or even something like turtle wax spray ceramic detailers. I've never been a bead maker guy but using it on ceramic coated cars seems silly and the company doesn't have a strong history with ceramic. Onr to me is more of a cleaning product. I'd rather see you use gyeon quick detailer or ceramic Detailer or cur. Or carpro reload or elixir. I've been trying out ethos something something lol. Forgot the name but it's Orange. That's seemed to be decent too.

You mention to use wet coat once a month but gyeon bathe+ has wet coat in it effectively. If I’m using bathe+ and I have a ceramic coating shall I just use gyeon ceramic detailer or cure as a top up and not wet coat?
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
The last part of your comment sounds great. Or bathe with wetcoat. In my opinion bathe and wetcoat is a more undiluted approach. As bathe plus dilutes heavily into water and dirt. It's a great product tho.
@FlagnarBoobz Жыл бұрын
@@STATUSDETAIL when you say dilutes into water and dirt does this mean water and dirt effectively removes its cleaning power? Why is that vs bathe that doesn’t? It’s stronger in general?
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
@@FlagnarBoobz simply put when you use bathe plus. You are mixing the dirt that's on the panel with water and soap. I'd typically prefer to use dedicated soap and dedicated sealant at the respective stages. That doesn't mean bathe plus is bad but it's best after a pre foam or a not super dirty car.

If you use a wash bay that you operate the pressure washer and use our own towels and wash pad that's a great option. Fully touchlesd car wash can be ok..but not great. You can always have a bucket with your basics. Drying towel. Soap. Wash pad. Wetcoat. Go to a 20-50 dollar hand wash place. Give them your stuff and say do the wash. That avoids the towels they used on 40000 cars before yours. Now your just paying for labor basically.

Great info as always! Question: I have Crystal Serum Ultra applied in November 2018, 1st year I took it in for its lovely $250 coating maintenance detail and the last 2 years I’ve been doing it myself since I find washing and cleaning the vehicles therapeutic and cheaper than seeing a therapist. 🤣. I’ve been using C2v3 after that maintenance wash and I use it every 3-4 months and normally use Elixir as a drying aid, Wetcoat or another product on rims usually. My question basically is should I have used EXO after that annual maintenance wash? The lower portion of the vehicle does take a beating thanks to Chicagoland winters.

Hey Chris! Tell me more about the car. How many miles is it driven. It's driven daily in winter during snow and salt? Is it parked outside? Garaged?

@STATUSDETAIL3 жыл бұрын
@@cmwalona Sounds like you're doing a great job on maintenance! Wecoat is so good and given the milage and garage kept you should be in decent shape with the routine care your doing. The ceramic is 4 years old now so I would recommend some kind of heavier hitting maintenance soon. As in exo or a similar topper type product from another company. Q2 wax would also be great before we see snow and salt. Wetcoat and cure and products like that are super awesome and essential to your lineup. But nothing replaces the semi permanent refresh of something like exo to keep everything in Harmony.

Per your website, one of your recommended coatings is to use CSL followed by a layer of EXO v4 or v5 and you say that properly maintained you can get say 7 years instead of the 3 to 5 years with just CSL. In the car re this video you have a "non-performing" ceramic base coating bas and you have discussed putting on a top layer of EXO as an "annual maintenance". I'm trying to understand. Will this simply last till the next annual maintenance when you will have to put on another topper of EXO? What if you do your normal dual layer of CSL and EXO on top at the start, does this mean that annual maintence would involve an EXO topper each year? Also, if someone has the same problem re a non-perforning base ceramic coating, a cost effective solution would be to start doing annual maintenances of EXO topper each year? Can you please advise?
@STATUSDETAIL11 ай бұрын
Good question and I'll try and make this simple.... But long answer lol. I use EXO kind of like a traditional wax. I use it as a sacrificial layer to my base coat. Something I like to apply annually or even two times a year sometimes on a special personal car. I'm using it like a wax. It's giving extra gloss really topping off hydrophobics and keeping that base coat in tip top shape. In a car that's being used in decent amount like a daily driver as you come up on that one year time frame and your EXO coat is starting to slowly degrade overtime is exactly when you apply again to top it off. Then this will be keeping that base coat in tip top shape and unaffected by the elements. This is one of the reasons I love dual layer coating so much is because it gives you flexibility. Basically I'm always servicing my top coat and keeping my base coat perfect. If you have a 9/11 for example that only sees 500 mi a year on sunny days that coating will do 7 plus years easy. Even with moderately bad maintenance. The car that you daily drive 10,000 mi a year that has perfect maintenance will also still do 7 years. A car that does 5,000 mi a year with terrible maintenance might only see 3 years. So of course maintenance is a huge factor. When I say maintenance I simply mean doing proper washing and topping off with things like reload or cure or wet coat. Exo annually is more of a specialty maintenance. As normal maintenance is really just doing a proper wash. I hope this helped.

Many thanks. I very much appreciate your replying to me so promptly. I am a beginner who is planning to do a ceramic coat for the first time on my new Lexus NX. I have been carefully trying to learn what I need to first coat and then maintain that coat. Now that I have managed to understand the initial base coat, I am starting to try and uunderstand top coating or adding a "sacrificial" layer to the base coat, or "dual layering" as you call it. I live in Canada so the winter and salt is an issue for me (similar to Chicago?). I only do about 10,000 miles a year in daily driving (retired) and the car sits in a garage at night. After watching your video above, I am sure that I can carry out all of the "during the year" maintenance of washing, reload, cure and/or wet coat in a disciplined fashion - and these all seem to be great products of either Gyeon or CarPro. Problem is that I plan to keep my Lexus NX 450h+ (plug in) for up to 10 years, which means 7 years will not be long enough for me. So is there one or more "dual layer coatings" that you could suggest that will "hopefully" do up me to 10 years if there is an annual maintenance with say EXO. Since there is only my one car, I realize that I will have to discard the rest of the EXO bottle after application (and it is a long way from Toronto to Chicago to avail myself of your services).
@STATUSDETAIL11 ай бұрын
If you're driving that many miles and that harsh weather I would recommend doing the 30 mil bottle annually. I actually like putting exo v5 on my glass as well and you can even put it on wheels. Put it on really heavy for your paint mainly because you just don't want to throw the bottle away with liquid still in it. So try and get it all on your car You could even do two layers on paint just to make sure you throw the bottle away empty. If you own the car for 10 years then around the five or six year mark you might want to do a very light polish and then reduce CSL and then put exo on top. Unless of course you feel like everything's working perfectly then it's continue with your normal maintenance. It's -40 wind chill here today so I definitely understand your environment. The salt can be hard on ceramic. Wet salt is the most corrosive. So if you have salt build up on the car but it's dry that's not as big of a deal. If you're driving every single day and it gets dry then wet then dry then wet repeatedly that's when it starts to eat into your coating more aggressively. For the most part of your daily driving there's not much you can do about this you have to drive your car and it's going to get salt on it. Just do your best not to leave it on for several weeks at a time or a month at a time. Using something like wet coat that's fast and easy is pretty essential in the winter time whenever you do a wash.

I note that you are also a fan of the new Gyeon Wax. Would it be an alternative to apply the Gyeon Wax twice a year (Fall and Spring) instead of applying as much of the bottle of EXO v5 as I can each Spring such as even two coats? Likely the shelf life of the Gyeon Wax is considerably longer than the EXO v5. Also for clarity, I assume that I would need to wash and fully decontaminate (but not panel prep?) the car prior to the application of the EXO v5 or Gyeon WAx each year in order that they bond properly with the CSL?@@STATUSDETAIL
