I was very dissapointed to see the Asgardians fight in the movies. Seeing them get cut down by ranged energy weapons as they try to charge into melee with swords and shields was very anticlimactic after they'd been built up as legendary warriors for so long. I saw their swords and shields and figured "Well I'm sure they're simple designs hiding fantastic technology. Surely the armor makes them fairly invulnerable and maybe the shield creates an energy field like the wakandans have with their cloaks." Nope! They get cut down as if they are just wearing normal shields and armor.

I would love to have your take with what the marvel universe changes in the old norse myths to fit it's world, ie nidavelir changing from a subterranean dwarven realm to a dyson sphere, I've always loved mythology and I love how they have twisted it to fit, it's fascinating and I think it would make a good video

So would the Asgardians be considered an ascended ancient race? They live on an artificial flat world and have such advanced tech that it is indistinguishable from magic. They can travel faster than traditional norms of FTL - bifrost to go over anywhere instantly in the galaxy. They are mortal though....

An Other Statement in the comics Thor is view as the Child of Odin and Gaea (Mother of Earth) Frigga is his stepmother. In the movie version Hela Goddess of Death have an other mother. Frigga is the mother Thor and Adopted Mother of Loki. In the comics Hela is the daughter of Loki (Loki is really frost giant who Odin killed and took his child for own)

And it's not a mythology I have personally experienced signs whether or not I can tell you it was particularly from the Norse Gods I follow I can't say.

thor withstood a force at least higher than a tsar bomb (64 megatons, the power output of a photon torpedo) and survived in the vacuum of space. he also has lightning attacks. they still have ranged weapons in the form of cannons in the ships, and some spears can shoot beams. hela had "necrosword" attacks that could take down ships as well. they have enough endurance and armor to fight enemies armed with any kind of weapons, and their melee weapons may be some of the only things capable of hurting other asgardians, so it makes sense for the guard to use them, at least in the city.
