In Episode 10 of the "The Heresy of Cessationism" series, Daniel delves deep into the examination of cessationism, dissecting arguments from theologians like Warfield. By scrutinizing the inconsistency in assessing biblical miracles versus contemporary testimonies, Kolenda challenges the rational basis of cessationist beliefs. He explores the philosophical underpinnings of David Hume's skepticism and advocates for a theological approach over a rationalist one. Ultimately, Kolenda asserts the unbiblical nature of modern cessationism, urging listeners to adopt a more scripturally grounded perspective.

Funny you mention Through the Gates of Splendor. I came to listen to this podcast right after listening to Elisabeth Elliot's podcast. She's Jim Elliot's widow and the author of the book by the same name the movie is based on. Her podcasts are wonderful. All that aside, this is the finest series going through the continuation of the spiritual gifts I have ever heard. Such a teaching is so needed now. Thank you for your time! Blessings.

My Grandfather (born in 1888) was strongly influenced by 19th century Rationalism. When his Church asked him to pray for rain he REFUSED TO PRAY. He answered that he had lived in that place for 60 years and it never rained at that time of the year. He regarded the failure to call out to God as a respect for nature God had made.

Hi all . I’ve really enjoyed this series on cessationism, it’s given me a lot to think about . My walk as a Christian started about 3 years ago and has been consumed by the teachings of John MacArthur, I have to be honest the last 3 years have brought me no joy, now I’m starting to see the stories of the power of an active God at work it’s awaking my soul. I have one question that won’t leave me alone , can anyone help ? Why doesn’t God heal people with Down syndrome, serious mental handicap conditions, motor neurones or give people back missing limbs ? .

There's no proof that He doesn't andI believe He does. Don’t fall into the negative inference fallacy (since I don't see it, it didn't happen) or assuming that God is going to heal everyone in a given population cohort. God is sovereign, meaning He dispenses these miracles as He sees fit. Just continue to seek truth and know that God still works!

This is excellent. You did a good job evaluating cessationism, and the chart you provided is an accurate depiction (coming from a former cessationist). I've been saying virtually the same thing regarding Cessationism being birthed by deism. The frightening thing is that cessationists are totally blinded by how their perspective tangibly affects the mission and local operations of the church. This is one of the fundamental reasons why the Western Church has suffered from stagnation and decline over the last century, if not longer. How can you expect to get New Testament results when critical doctrines and practices embedded in The Great Commission and the life of the local church have been not only disregarded but considered obsolete? God bless you, brother, and hopefully, more people will view this video (only 5,700 views as of today, 5-16-24).

In 2016 I contracted hepatitis C. It was even my fault because I was using needles I cried and cried to the Lord and begged for healing. I went to a Revival not long after that and a woman came and told me I was healed after I was leaving an alter call. I went back to the doctors and they said that I did not have Hepatitis C anymore I even took my mother in because I was so sure they were going to tell me I didn't have it anymore. I brought my mother along which is also a Pastor. She heard the doctors. I have documented medical proof that I had it and now I don't. This is only one of several times I know I've been healed. Praise the Lord

I just wonder if the ever changing world we're living in will in itself force Christians to either line up on the side of walking by faith in the miraculous power of God, or totally falling away. The Bible says there will perilous times, men's hearts failing them for fear..we're getting a little glimpse of that already. As things get worse, we will either walk by faith and in the miraculous power of God, or we will not walk at all.

How can we experience peace that surpasses comprehension if we must first rationally understand it? The fact is that the Cessationist cannot follow a big “F” Faith if faith as defined in Hebrews 11:1 isn’t a part of the practice. One is left only with powerless religion (rules without relationship). If God must fit in the box that sits on your shoulders, then you have dramatically limited His ability to work in your life. Entrance into the Kingdom comes with the faith of a child not the intellect of the rational thinker.

Are we supposed to totally ignore: 1 Corinthians, Chapter 12; Ephesians Chapter 4 and Romans Chapter 12 just because they believe that since JESUS and His Disciples are dead, so are the spiritual gifts? Do they believe in the power of prayer or is prayer just said to open and close their lukewarm services?

I see deism and Calvinism as similar, in that; A deist would believe God created the world, gave it a spin, and just walked away. The Calvinist believes God planned every detail sovereignly exactly how he wanted and then he gave the world a spin and just watches it unravel.

Daniel, great word. Have you either addressed yourself or know if it could be a subject to discuss tongues from Paul’s 1st letter to the Corinthians, ch 14? Specifically I see it relating to tongues as the heavenly language vs cessationist’s argument that relegates it to a “known” language from Acts 2 - which presupposes man’s knowledge. In Chapter 14:10-11 (NKJV), Paul uses two Greek words - significance/aphonos and meaning/dynamis. The distinctions are subtle but b/w the practice of tongues as speaking mysteries to God (dynamis, vs 11) vs human lingual comprehension (aphonos, vs 10). Translating dynamis to = “meaning” - when almost every other NT usage it = power - is a “colouring” of the integrity of the gospel text. Therefore, it is in the knowing of the “power/ability” behind the language (Holy Spirit) that is the key. Any thoughts?

With the differing types of tongues for different reasons, I need the one that downloads the software updates; the power, lol. The supernatural electric arc that connects Adam's finger to God's in the Sistine Chapel is a picture God gave me to help "connect the supernatural dots" lol. Where do we draw power. How? Prayer. Praying in the Spirit. Scripture. Waiting in stillness. And, lets be honest, we must be willing participants much of the time, "Laboring to enter His rest," agreed? I often sit and speak one word at a time because I can get so distracted by everything all around. ADHD world. And then, a Word, one word, just one, will be spoken/downloaded from the Spirit and somehow upnpack itself over the next days or weeks, like Jerimiah being told to look and contemplate the meaning as God continues to explain through life all around us. Astonishing. Night before last was, "Sendiri." Translate from Indonesian. But it has been saying A LOT for my life, still and alone with God, as it gets unpacked. And then, there are those times in perfect stillness like waking up, when the Words coming pouring out, but honestly, I need to focus and utter what I hear in Spirit most of the time, one word, or two at a time. He's not in any rush. 😂 I recently asked Him if I could just mumble under my breath. Answer: "Pray in secret." lol! I understand more now. Being still, waiting and listening, but how often do we really do that? The first translatable words I heard dripped repeatedly and slowly over weeks: "Oh shalah Roh sabachthani." A dream was given along with the words that connected my heart to it all. "Oh blessed rest of the Spirit, do not forsake me." And then Bingo, it dawned on me in such amazing reality: Because Jesus was forsaken, I don't have to be. God is so incredibly gracious. I know without Him, I would walk myself straight into Hell and fight for a front row seat.

I wonder what a Calvinest and an Atheist sitting down in conversation would talk about? The Calvinest would not give the Atheist any evidence of God,and when the Calvinest teaches their doctrine, saying God gave his Son,but ultimately will randomly decide who go's to hell,I would think the Atheist would think our lord God provides no hope and is cruel.

One of my roommates in boarding school was Rob Masters, who's father was killed by cannibals in Irian Jaya. His mother stayed, with all the children!! 🤯 That area of Irian Jaya eventually saw salvation on a large scale. Unfortunately, legalism and self-righteousness crept in and Irian Jaya is in need of revival like a majority of the Body of Christ. I am not judging. Been there, done that. Without fully understanding how the Holy Spirit dwells in us to fulfill Isaiah 61 with God and his spiritual gifts living in us, Christians are not equipped to be God's supernatural light and power for those in need. Dare I say, from experience, we are almost half dead if we do not walk in purity and choose to be God's light every day because Jesus' Baptism is not one-and-done, it is moment-by-moment according to the Word. We need a greater understanding. Not just the five-fold ministers, but the entire Body of Christ, or revival will never spread like the Bible says it will to ALL mankind. Is this true or false? We all have God 3-in-1 living in us if we have accepted Jesus as our Savior. We do not own God or any of his gifts. He owns us and we act upon his promptings when we learn to hear him clearly. God's 5 ministering gifts and 9 spiritual gifts are living in us to be activated with God's help and understanding. The gift of teaching is needed for every believer, not just pressing on someone's head, hoping to hear tongues, and hoping God will take over, alone. Our free will must be fully engaged with education and understanding how to hear God tell us what to do and when. --- On another note, I wonder how many marriages end as a result of postpartum depression followed by menopause, compounded by mid-life crisis? Been through that myself from 2002 through 2023. Hell on earth. Lesson learned: Some issues are not spiritual or character. They are biologically driven and need God's grace to overcome the consequences brought about by not knowing how to deal with biology manifesting itself in crazy-making. Yes, on both parts. Thank God, he is a solemn vow. Grace. --- Does God prefer the heart of the Pharisee or the tax collector in Luke 8: 9-14? Everyone prays for healing or a miracle at some point in life, lol. Funny, how the unforgivable sin is tied to blaspheming (the work of) the Holy Spirit.

Observational Cess’s with whom I converse seem to equivocate the distinction of miracles ongoing today as Gods will vs man’s will. As if the effect of a miracle is a result of the man’s “effectual” faith causing the miracle, at will. I’m not sure what their understanding of “faith” is, but it certainly is not the biblical kind. I like what Derek Prince said about “theology” literally translates to “Gods Word” (Theo-Logos). Theology today is full of doctrines of man, dare I say, demons…

God's Word is alive,Holy, and is Christ. John chapter one verse one. God is outside of His creation and unlimited by man's opinions. How would God give us the knowledge of His nature the events of creation, and the Gospel if His Word is not Spirit,God is a Spirit,we must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Without the Word man would be hedionest running naked pointing at the sky. God's Word is our foundation of knowledge about our relationship with God. God's Word brings man unto Salvation. We cannot be in Idolatry by basing our knowledge on God's Word it is impossible unless you study another Gosple brought by corrupt people.
