In the final episode of the Off The Record Podcast, Daniel Kolenda continues to delve into the history of the Holy Spirit's movement within the Church, focusing on the period from the Reformation to the 20th century.
The episode highlights the origins of the modern Pentecostal movement back to the famous Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906. Led by William J. Seymour, the revival saw manifestations of speaking in tongues, healings, and widespread spiritual renewal. With as many as 700 million people now identifying as Pentecostal or Charismatic, this movement has been instrumental in fulfilling the Great Commission, spreading the Gospel message worldwide and revitalizing Christianity.
Ultimately, Daniel concludes this series by celebrating the ongoing presence and work of the Holy Spirit, affirming the fulfillment of biblical prophecy and the continuation of miraculous signs and wonders in the Church.

I wonder if CFAN and Daniel Kolenda could ever hold a "Continuationist" conference. Maybe have it be focused on bringing charismatic scholarship to the mainstream, and explaining how to do biblically based and pastoral healthy healing and prophetic ministry. I'd love to see people like Michael Brown, Jack Deere, Sam Storms, Craig Keener, Randy Clark, and of course Daniel Kolenda speaking

Brother Kolenda, I have loved every bit and resonated with all of it! It's been long overdue. Am also glad that you are not dropping this matter, any time soon. Cessationism is actually a modern movement among especially the Reformed community, and it's branded as the "healthier" or "safer", even more biblical Christian theology--I have fervently argued against it for decades. Am very grateful to live to see a resounding answer and sufficiently thorough correction. Am praying for millions of views for this series.

The Reformed Movement was not "healthier" or "safer" when Luther, Zwingly and Calvin hunted down independent Churches like the Mennonites and Anabaptists and burned them alive when all they wanted was to ordain their own ministers, hold their own services as and study the word without reference to Luther.

Thanks Daniel. I was saved by watching videos of Derick Prince preaching on you tube in 2020 and after some things happened that I can not explain. I have been trying to understand ever since. Your video series has helped me to understand. What you are used to seeing is mind blowing to me. I am so grateful you took the time to make this series. Thank you.

Thanks brother Daniel! I have a mixed feeling, from one hand it’s great that I’ve got to the end of the series, but at the same time there’s so much more that I could learn. So it’s a bit sad at the same time that it’s ended. What I can surely tell, I learned a lot! Many things I knew nothing about. Shared your series with a few brothers as well, hope they are watching too!

Thank you for this series on Cessationism. I’ve already listened to it once and started going through it again. A few years ago I was in a Bible Study and found the leaders believed in Reformed Theology, Calvinism, and an extreme version of cessationism and Complementarism. They didn’t only believe that the gifts ceased. They believed all miracles and healing had ceased as well. Their reason was, that God no longer needed to prove himself. He already did that with the cross and the apostles. The group leader had serious neck pain. I asked if we could pray for his neck. He refused. He said he was content with his neck ailment. He said it was his “thorn in the flesh”. God gave him this to keep him humble. He asked if I ever heard of Joni Erickson? They held to an extreme version of Complementarism. They believed women are to remain silent and their only purpose is to serve a man and have Children. If God used a woman in the Bible, it was because a man wasn’t available. I asked them if my Dad and brother weren’t saved could I still share the Gospel with them? They said no, because women are not allowed to preach or teach men. If God had “chosen” my Dad and brother for salvation then he would send a man to preach to them. I was perplexed and thought, “how do you get anyone saved? You believe in a different Jesus! You believe in a God that chooses not to do anything, puts sickness on you to teach you a lesson, predestines who is going to heaven and hell, predestines every evil and good thing. You make God sound worse than the devil. …and if you’re a Woman. Sorry you need to remain silent and your only allowable role is to serve a man.” I believe all this is twisted doctrine. It seems demonic and goes against Gods nature. Don’t we all believe in the God that created the universe?! That means he can do anything! He has given us free will to choose him or not. We are not robots. We are also accountable for our own actions. God doesn’t predestine the evil or good we do. God doesn’t make mistakes. The women he used in the Bible weren’t mistakes. I remember the Samaritan Woman. She evangelized her whole town (both men and women) and they came to hear Jesus.

That’s very extreme! I would say this is the exception. Typically, cessationists, even the reformed type, are more reasonable. I’m glad you got out

Wow thank you for your response! I didn’t expect you would respond. Thank you. I grew up in a cessationism church. Most cessationist still believe God does miracles and healing - just not in the gifts. The Bible Study I was involved in was the exception. I was told by my family to just focus on what we have in common, however being silent is causing more to fall into false doctrine like cessationism. Even my own sister. We need to be prepared, know the Bible and speak up for what we believe in. Silence is creating a bigger mess. Your teaching will help me speak to my friends and family. By the way, in 2015-2018 I lost my health and my dream job (wildlife/forestry). I had chronic plantar fasciitis and had foot surgery. My foot Doctor gave me a 50% chance of recovery and she told me to find a different career. Several years after surgery I was still in incredible pain. I couldn’t stand without pain for more than 15 minutes. Then I found out I couldn’t move up into a different Forestry position due to my college degree. I was stuck and didn’t know what to do? During that time I bought Reinhard Bonnkes audible book Living a Life of Fire after watching your show. I listened to it many times. I found a group of people who were willing to agree with me in prayer for a miracle. We prayed for 2 years. Most people give up after praying once. Anyway to make a long story short God did a miracle. I was offered a transfer from Minnesota to Arizona in the very job I was told not to do anymore. For some crazy reason I took a chance. I told my new Boss about my foot surgery, but she didn’t know how bad I was. I didn’t limp, because both feet hurt equally. Within the first day of work I realized I was in trouble. The uneven terrain made the pain worse and I was terrified of losing my job again. I tried a new church. An old couple asked if I had any needs and simply prayed for my feet. The next day the 3.5 years of pain I was in disappeared in September 2018. A year later my college issue was resolved and I’m now a Forester. I still hike 4-9 miles a day with no issues. When I thought my life was over God restored everything I lost. He takes care of me and never abandoned me. The false doctrine Cessationism hurts our witness and faith in God. We either believe in the God who created the Universe and can do anything - or we don’t. Faith sometimes takes persistence. Again thank you so much for this series. I’m surrounded by cessationist and struggled responding to them. I tried my testimony but they dismiss it as happenstance. I feel more prepared understanding why they use the scriptures they use. The other issues I encounter besides cessationism is people arguing against the baptism of the Holy Spirit, people who believe in cheap grace (salvation without repentance) and once saved always saved. I wish I was better at evangelism. I struggle in having an answer when I’m put on the spot. I try my best to find scripture references.

The walls of the New Jerusalem, Rev 21, are being rebuilt on the foundations which is the teaching of the apostles. Unfortunately , most of the walls still lay in ruin. They can only be built with the truth which is in accordance with the apostle's teaching. For the apostle's teaching is the foundation which is to be built upon. What we see today is Christendom with its pattern after the Roman (false) church. Not built according to the truth. But in everything false.

There was an interview in the early 1970s,some people who had attended the Asua Street revival. They spoke of Angelic singing above them. I have often wondered if the song that Sister Rosetta Tharp sang often was from inspiration at Asua Street. She sang up above my head,I heard music in the air. Thank you so much for these lessons of God's goodness, Pastor Dan.

Today I heard God say in Spirit, the super-simple first purpose of being Baptized in Spirit & Fire is to help us, "First, die to self." If God is not still Living & Active in us and upon us, I am in big trouble because so much I have done with, "Knowledge is Power," alone, without God's Spirit first leading, has been chaotic. Today, again, and again, Baptize me and lead me in your Spirit & Fire God!!!... Thanks for pressing on with God, no matter what gets thrown at you.

Thank you, brother Daniel. I absolutely love this series. I firmly believe that the Lord has inspired you to do this series because Jesus Christ is coming back for a church without any spot or wrinkle. His church cannot cling to lies and unbelief. It is not God's will. Cessationists do not like the Good news Gospel of Luke 4 : 18 but prefer their own watered down Sickness and Poverty Gospel. They don't want to hear about God's blessings, healing and deliverance. They want Christians to be miserable all the way to heaven and don't want to live on earth as it is in heaven. So, anyway, when I saw the notification of this video just now on KZbin, I shouted for joy, to my wife "Oh yeaaahhh! Daniel Kolenda uploaded another video on Cessationism!" And we rejoyced together! We absolutely love this series! It is so very well done. Many Christians that I know were Charismatics for many years but now because of cessationist KZbin videos made by Justin Peters, John MacArthur and Daniel Long, they now call almost every Pentecostal or Charismatic preacher "a false teacher". I am the only one in my circle who sees right through Justin Peters, Daniel Long and John MacArthur's' sheep clothing! I know that what they are teaching is umbilical garbage! Just a bunch of demonic lies! (No offense to Justin Peters and John MacArthur! and Daniel Long). But they are lying to the whole world and especially to the church! They are deceiving the church and they don't even know that satan is using them! But anyway I am looking forward to more on this subject in the future because satan has used this false doctrine for many years to deceive God's children. Finally Charismatics and Pentecostals are able to learn the truth! Thank you brother Daniel! God bless you! Much Love from South Africa!

Hello David, I've watched all parts your cessationism series, thouroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot. I fully believe in the Gifts of the Holy sprits for today, however it pains me to say that feel the need to be very cautious. There are false teacher, money grifters and fake healers today, like benny Hinn, Copeland, and many more. It would really help my faith journey, and many others too i believe, if people like you, David, who can be trusted in their judgement, would speak about how we discern the false teachers from the genuine ones, and that we as the body of Christ, would be more proactive in rebuking and expising such heresies, from a place of love for our fellow people, Christians and unsaved alike, not from religious narrow-mindedness.

I would just like you to pray for my wife and I that doors would be open for us and that we would be much mightier in the Holy Spirit. And if you or someone that you know gets a word for us, let us know. We are seeking the Lord's guidance in this. May God continue to bless you and your ministry!

I think saying "don't put God in a box" is a rather stupid thing to say. You cannot put him in a box no matter how hard you try! (just ask Jesus about the tomb lol). Rather, we should instead say "don't put yourself in a box that the Holy Spirit is never going to get in!"
