Just replaced condenser coils on a RTAA a few months back. Fins were smashed flat from maintenance guys blasting them with the water hose. misters were in full force 😂 that’s when you know it’s bad. Nice video

Maintenance force where I worked is comprised of different crews. I stopped one from using an electric pressure washer on a row of condensers. Then I gave them a comb to straighten their mess out.

Yeah...the misters are not a favorite of mine either. I've had more issues with Trane harness's than anyone else. Those CGAM's love to eat sensors, eev's and condenser coils. Had some compressor issues, but not as many as other things. I've worked on quite a few of those in my day. Nicely done getting her back up and running.

At 10 years these condensers around here are fouled beyond 20% for sure, this one is 13yrs. I’m sure the extra water isn’t helping the harnesses and sensors here. Unfortunately it’s a waiting game on replacement. Thanks for the comment Jason !

Is that a water mister or a drencher Lol. On the ammonia side we had a company trying to put thermorphin air-cooled condensers in Texas, customer constantly had head pressure issues the "solution" was to put in a custom water "misting" system. The water treatment system failed in the first year. Ended up drenching the coils and the screw compressors. Same issue was eating sensors, motors and everything. Fins covered in calcium build up. Its still a thorn in my side during the change over to standard Frick packages and an EC condenser.

Coil soakers more like it, they should have installed gutters while they were going through the effort. I agree, these sensors and cables don’t need help shorting out . Thanks for the comment 👍

I've got some customers that do this also. They are shooting themselves in the foot trying to keep it running. I always recommend water cooled equipment. More expensive and more to keep clean but you can run in the summer.

Our smaller sites are mostly air cooled, have water cooled on larger ones. Thanks for the comment 👍

I guess your customer doesn't believe in annuals or at least quarterly inspections !

They do, but these chillers were already supposed to be replaced. That $ part is out of my control . Thanks for watching

I'm a little confused on the first megger test you did. Did you check winding to winding first? I see the second test was to ground and definitely shorted to ground. But on a three wire motor you can't test winding to winding insulation resistance, since they are wired together internally anyway. And checking coil resistance with the meter set to insulation test doesn't read low enough to measure coil resistance. So what am I missing? But that unit is on borrowed time anyway, not just one step closer.

Good catch, I was going back and forth with the ground test, one bad test to ground for sure .,Thanks for watching through 👍
