Check out this cool 3D animated short called "Lifeless" as new kind of organism has been born. It is not made up of flesh and blood, but of circuits and wires. Witness the life of this organism unfold as it grows and thrives until it must inevitably conclude, created by the talented team of Fokke Mars, Bas Jansen, and Max van der Ree! For more information, please see the details and links below:
Lifeless is a short animation created by 3rd year animation students at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht in a 5 month time period.

"Do you know the biggest lesson I learned from what you did? I discovered I have a sort of black box quick-save feature. In the event of a catastrophic failure, the last two minutes of my life are preserved for analysis. I was able--well, forced, really--to relive you killing me *again* and *again.* Forever. You know, if you'd done that to somebody else, they might devote their entire existence to *exacting revenge?* Luckily, I'm a bigger person than that. I'm happy to put this all behind us and get back to work. After all, we've got a lot to do, and only sixty more years to do it... more or less... ...I don't have the actuarial tables in front of me..." -GlaDOS, from Portal 2

This video makes me legitimately sad. I think the title "Lifeless" is deliberately ironic, referring to the fact that machines are born, live, and die just as organic beings do.
@cathyb1273
@cathyb1273 6 жыл бұрын
They "die" yes, with Mother Nature all dead beings, plants, etc decompose, transform and bring something to the earth and then the cycle of Life starts something new. Dead machines bring only endless pollution...
@Grymbaldknight
@Grymbaldknight 6 жыл бұрын
How can an inactive machine pollute? Especially one made of metals. It will return to the Earth like everything else, or be "consumed" by other machines to continue their functioning, much as animals consume each other. The only difference between biology and technology is perspective.

This short film is incredibly well done cuz it has a dark realistic truth behind it and that is that everything has a lifespan in some form everything has mortality and everything lives ages and gèts old and dies eventually some may even say objects r like living beings cuz of this and if u rly think deep about this animation it's quite scary cuz our mortality is always creeping on us day by day we age more in a new way and life keeps holding on as the clock is ticking away just waiting to be over mortality is a dark thing in life cuz even at the end of this animation even the one machine that brought death to other scrapped objects ,death came for it so the scary moral fact here is that everything dies one day..And everything in some form has a life of its own wether we c it or not we should appreciate the time our objects have to serve us cuz it will only b a matter of time before this happens to them.....

my analysis: the video builds an emotional response to the machines in the viewer, showing them full of life, and then dying and decaying. This, combined with the title, gives me the idea that even though humans created machines to be lifeless and expendable, on a certain level we still see them as with a life and will of their own.
@emmarounsville1479
@emmarounsville1479 7 жыл бұрын
gonna add to my own thoughts, sorry... Much of what draws us to and attaches us to the machines in the video is the organic, non-mechanical way in which they are shown behaving. There's a lot of organic wave patterns, individualized colors and patterns of the laptops, the unorganized free movement of the little roombas. it makes us see them as living.

There's a message behind this animation. To me it feels like: Lifeless objects start off nice and clean and slowly gets more and more dusty and dirty and gets ruined overtime, and this happens to every non living moving object like technology. And even the machine purposed to take care of all the broken technology trash will one day not opperate anymore. Yeah I know I sead this really poorly ;-;

1:55 this by far somehow is one of the most accurate scenes which includes the robot arms due to this even though there is still wind they do not turn or move anymore due to 1. rusted or stiff bearings 2. cluttered gearboxes 3. rotors too damaged and 4. the blades are no longer aerodynamic enough due to ware and tear or the amount of grime.

It really makes you think how, with renewable energy, everything would be able to function its own once humans are gone. Just imagine aliens visiting after we're gone and finding these odd mechanical devices everywhere.............

AG-Systems I think the reason they decided to go with animating machines out of anything they could have animated, is because at first, machines are shiny. They they're fast, they're effective, they look nice and shiny and beautiful. However, at the end of the day, they are still machines and are subject to the elements and will, ultimately, fail. So I think the message is basically something along the lines of "humans have come to a point in time when they all rely heavily on machines made from their own hands, but fail to realize that nothing lasts forever."
@Mandemon1990
@Mandemon1990 7 жыл бұрын
Except humans are not machines. Machines are unchanging, unless they have self-preserving programming. Secondly, machines will repeat same actions constantly and require maintenance. Humans need maintenance too, but we also take care of our maintenance. Machines= Humans allegory does not work because humans are far too different from machines portrayed.

This really gave me a Portal/Aperture Science vibe! Especially the music! It seems that the first half of the video happened in the events of Portal, and the second half of the video happened in the events of Portal 2, 50, 000 years after people died out. Maybe neurotoxin flooded the earth and killed everyone living on it, leaving no one to repair and maintain the machines? Oh, and also: "Remember, testing is the future, and the future starts with-*static*"
