If you go into a salon, you're paying with money *and* the mistakes, tbh. Sometimes you leave happy, but often the hairdresser no matter how educated or kind just doesn't have the same view no matter how much you explain what you want. I will always do my own hair (sometimes I'll drag my mom or friends into it when there is something I absolutely can't reach or whatever) but I feel better when I can blame myself rather than somebody else.

amen, that has been my perception over the years. I always come out frustrated and angry from the salon 'cause they either make a stupid mistake, don't understand whatever SIMPLE instruction I told them to do, or do some crazy ass bullshit that looks nothing like what I brought to them. nah, I'd rather make mistakes myself and spend no money on them than to be giving someone else money to make mistakes worse than the ones I'd make.

Definitely feel the same especially after hair down to my butt went to my jaw because she didnt like how I shaved my head at home. She was my moms friend, I was 20 and she told me it looked terrible and to never do it again. I said I wanted her to match the shave on the other side and she went on a tangent on how bad that would look on me then went SNIP and cut it all to my jaw.

As someone who's been cutting my hair for years too, sometimes setting up a webcam behind you if you have a laptop or something to put in front of you can work well to see the back of your head

HOLY GUACAMOLE!!! This is seriously the best, most thorough tutorial on how to shave a hawk!! I've been doing my own hair for many years. All kinds of styles, including various hawks. And there were so many tips in this video that I wouldn't have thought to include if I was making a tutorial vid. You included all the little details no one else tells you... Like the trash can on the sink, wetting your fingers to smooth down the edges, etc.. Truly an excellent tutorial! Thank you!

You inspired me with those first videos to shave my head and I've continued for nearly a year and a half. I just shave the entire back and sides. You are so correct that patience is key. There are times when I rushed out of boredom and that's when I've lost the most long hair and over time I have lost too much of that. Take it slow!!! I've been growing some ear tails for a couple months and I'm really happy with the look. I can't wait til their your length. Thanks for the water smoothing tip. I started shaving my sides myself because no hairdresser I went to understood what I wanted. I always ended up with some weird fade on the sides. I don't have a full death hawk tho, the long hair doesn't go down the back and my hair only goes to my chin. Love your videos!

I have a whole section on the side of my deathhawk that I'm regrowing because I accidentally cut it off one day XD I agree with the not worrying about being perfect. It's the price you pay for doing it yourself. You just accept it and move on. I find it interesting you cross your arm behind your head. I learned to shave with my non-dominant hand. Perfect advice for anyone with a deathhawk. I've had one for a few years now and I think you nailed it.

I got so close to shaving my own death hawk last night. I was so pumped. But after sectioning I realised I couldn't even find the razor aha (be prepared before you start), but it's all good because my fiance's mum used to be a hairdresser and she agreed to shave it for me today, since she has everything at her house. But I'm gonna invest in the equipment so that when it starts to grow out I can just shave it myself, much to my fiance's dismay (he fears I'm gonna accidentally make a huge mistake and lop all my hair off. not that I have much hair, it's a very grown out mohawk so I won't have that super nice long top section but I'll just grow that out in time to get a true deathawk.) So I'm watching all these tutorials so that when I do need a touch up, I'll feel confident and sorta know what I'm doing. I love your videos, you're great at explaining, you have a great personality and you rock the deathawk, you're so naturally beautiful!

Well, to give an update. After I shaved my hair into a deathhawk, I started to let it grow out. Turns out, it just didn't suit me. Won't regret it, but I'll never do it again. :)

I have a deathhawk too, here goes my tricks. I sit on the floor of my room right behind the wall, drag my bed right next to my chest (as if I were sitting tightly in a chair right next to a table) I support a smaller mirror on the bed in a pot of hydrant masks, mirror that I place to my right or left according to the side that has been cutting, so I put another big mirror behind me standing on the wall, so I do not need to hold the mirror in my hand and still I can see everything up close . I wear an old belt to hold the hair I do not want to cut. I took the belt, cut it in half, and the half without the buckle I put on top of the hair close to dividing the line and shave down.

I have a sides have on the right and my hair is past my bum. I shave with the shortest guard. I do it once a week bc it's easier to keep the clean lines. My mirror in the bathroom folds in three so I don't have to hold a mirror. it's perfect everytime. I don't have an eartail. But I love my sides have.

itsnicoleism honestly this will be the weirdest answer. But of course I didn't pay attention to it, I got sick of bad haircuts. And I was a an addicted to drugs so I didn't give a fuck. I stopped coloring it and washing it so much. While I am in recovery from drugs for a few years. I still pay it no mind, I have a ombre faded highlight around my face. But I wash it twice a week and I don't dye the rest of my hair. I use all cruelty free products and I'm vegan for the past 6 months.

I'm so glad you addressed making mistakes, the top of my hair is a lot thinner (I have both sides shaved but I wouldn't call it a deathhawk) now than I originally planned it to be and seeing you use those clips to hold back the hair you want to grow back out kind of reassured me that I can just do that to and its all good, so thank you for that! :)

instead of using water to smooth down the sides, i use wax or gel so it doesnt frizz up/ fall down because i have curly hair and it does noooot co operate otherwise

I recently cutted my own hair, like, two months ago or so, it was like, short in the back, a good shunk of hair of the front longer, straight bangs and and i've been thinking to just let it grow, dye my hair like, sunset colors, and do myself a deathawk, but in a future fuuuuture, because first of all, my hair grows like its a chill snail, like, it could not grow slower, second of all, its going to be extra difficult to let my hair grow because i'm kind of stuck in the mindset that "long hair = annoying" because i didn't took good care of it and it is kinda wavy so it got all stuck in things, soo much shampoo, i hated burshing it, and it make me look like a mushroom when i used hoodies, and so this is like, hair gets longer, i get annoyed, i chop it up, and then get disapointed because i wanted longer hair for x reason, and also, third reason, still in school, four years more to have total freedom of my whole hair, with no rules abiding against me (i do dye my hair crazy colors, but just a bit of hair, not my whole head as i intend to do some day, and yeah, my right now school does allow it) also, your video is really good, and i hope it helps me when i do what i plan to do with my hair 🐱

Everyone has a different rate of growth to their hair, but also a different follicle lifespan. Some people can't grow their hair out long at all because the hair reaches the end of its life and it falls out before it even reaches shoulder length. For me, my hair grows one half inch every month. If you want your hair to grow more, there are supplements you can take to help it.

I like eartails.. but only if the sidecut, or whatever you have, isn't too short. Like.. 1-2cm, half an inch or something or longer, I don't really know.. I think it looks just weird having an eartail "appear" in front of the ear, without any other hair "connected" to it.

So okay, I have a side shave currently and I'm thinking of changing it up a bit. Going from a side shave would I do the exact same cut to the other side and just shaving all the way back?
