When Chad died I revisited this song and realized it also make a great eulogy for his self. As we get older and look back at our summer loves.

What you may not realize is you are hearing a captured few moments of time that artistically/musically describe, if by accident, the innocence of life back in 1964 compared to now. How would anyone actually feel that if they were not alive then to experience it? things moved slower then, no internet, but still world problems. The lyrics can be more than just a summer love. The song reminds me of childhood, my late brother and I in summertime. He died 2 years ago, my little brother. He is forever back in time to that summer day..."Wish you didn't have to go..." "And the the rain beats against my window pain, I'll think of summer days again, and dream of you..." Summer sucks' without him now. Chad and Jeremey were folk singers caught up in the British invasion and appeared on many USA TV programs including sitcoms. they were not appreciated much in England. Yet they were British. Often confused with Peter and Gordon, the other British duo who were more popular and had more hits. Neither duo lasted more than 4 years in the spotlight.

I am with you on this. I was 13 in 1964. Life was so simple back then. People didn't hate and talk mean like they do now. So, we didn't have what we do now, it was a wonderful time in my life. I am 71 and I would love to go back to a simple time again.

Nicely said. And would there be a few of today's generation who would listen to this and in a short time.... miss it and be glad to hear it again because the song gave them so much pause and peace. I, of course at 69, miss this music terribly. Perhaps as you said for those somewhat innocent years and beautiful memories of summers past. And the sadness to know they will never come again.

Harri, they were actually viewed more as a second-string version of Peter & Gordon here in the States. They appeared in a lot of American TV shows as sort-of generic British pop stars (Dick Van Dyke Show, Batman, Patty Duke Show, even a Western show called Laredo). Like Peter & Gordon, they were heavily influenced by The Everly Brothers. Unlike P&G, however, they did try to evolve their music (concept albums like Cabbages and Kings). Jeremy Clyde was a fairly successful actor after their musical careers fizzled out. And Peter of Peter & Gordon had the advantage of Paul McCartney on their side (dated Jane Asher, Peter's sister).

But they were better than Peter and Gordon
@John_Chu2 жыл бұрын
@@flomurdock I didn't say they weren't. I said they were "viewed" as second-string by audiences and TV producers in the U.S. I agree that they were "better" than P&G but they didn't have a Beatle handing them Top 10 hit songs like candy to little children.

'Difficult to believe that either Chad or Jeremy arranged all that sweeping orchestration. Something you don't hear on Simon And Garfunkel's break-out album. 'Tells me the record company thought their music was bare bones and didn't really sustain itself. I remember this song from that time. And another, Yesterday's Gone. Then they fizzled out. Just tidal influx and ebbing of the British Invasion. There were so many flashes in the pan in that time. Record companies throwing so much at the wall to find out what would stick. So much on the floor beneath the wall. Like that.
