A problem I have had with ChaDeMo chargers recently is being blocked by CCS cars when they could use other chargers. Please when you use a row of chargers, try not to block off the only ChaDeMo point when there are several CCS chargers available. Thanks.

I believe that there is a ChaDeMo to CCS adapter on the market for around £700. (Not £7000.)
@1973Hog10 ай бұрын
That is correct. There is a company in China who built an adapter and sells them on Alibaba. As with any new product it is having growing problems so as a Leaf owner I will continue to monitor their progress and will purchase one once they have worked out the bugs. 🐜

I wonder if Nisan will offer a conversion to CCS? Take care M.
@solentbum10 ай бұрын
@@markeh1971 My guess is that the Mk 3 LEAF when it is unveiled will have CCS charging, but whether Nissan will market a conversion kit, or even an adaptor, is unlikely. Based on my current 'away from home ' charging , it not going to be cost , or time, effective for me to buy one. I will meanwhile keep an eye on the Alibaba prices.

@@markeh1971more likely that a third party will, however from what I've read it's quite complex to do. I think it's more likely these cars will end up as local run arounds after all very few have any range and that will decrease over time so whilst you can use them for longer trips not many will want to and there's a big market for a local run around second car.

Are you sure on the price of the ccs2 to chademo adapter? My understanding is that they are a bit under £1000 currently. Although annoyingly the minimum order is 2 on the one I saw 😐

Great video. It seems Gridserve usually included one or two Chademo when upgrading their sites - but not always. If not they leave their older Chademo 50 Kw chargers if installing new CCS2 only. I plan a trip around a McDonalds as they usually have Instavolt with CCS and Chademo charging on their sites.

Interesting video Dave. One point to note is that the Nissan Leaf, whilst possibly being the only full EV to use Chademo in the UK, the Plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander also used it and has a Type 1 AC charge socket and not a Type 2.

It’s the same in Brighton. The two rapid chargers have Chademo plugs. But there again, the rapid chargers in Brighton are run by a certain company.

In Japan the charging network was built out quickly and to a fairly large scale many years ago with CHAdeMO. EVs over there didn't take off and now they are mostly unused or broken. They are the only country in the world with that as the standard. Tesla have largest share of the EV market for any reasonable size battery EV and they have gone with their US NACS plug connector and built a supercharging network around that. Japan will need to rebuild a whole new infrastructure out for when EVs go more mainstream with newer standards.

Japanese BEVs will all be Chademo. Automakers who don't adapt won't sell in Japan.

Can be harmed the Zoe onboard charger, if one charges it at one phase AC?
@bellshooter10 ай бұрын
No the car will take a lower rate single phase but home chargers are 90% single phase in UK and they are fine.

Quite a timely video with the Nissan Leaf stopping production at Sunderland’s factory this week. As I understand it Chademo is still the dominant charging standard in Japan. This could be a large factor in the low adoption rates in Japan.

I always hoped that battery services would roll out over the life of my leaf, providing routes to keep the car on the road, thus underlining how EV's can enjoy a more extended life and underline them as a choice for the environment. 20 years rather than what has become acceptable. Not yet there, not sure how much longer I can drive the leaf with its shrinking range and betamax connector, upgrade options aren't yet ideal though anythings possible at cost, I like the idea of it being a battery on wheels, perhaps a good end, it could still make the shops on occasion but run a home otherwise

You have missed out the lexus ux300 Dave,it still uses chademo too (and is still in production) and on sale in the uk Personally I find that chademo is a lighter and more elegant solution that ccs and it's a shame Europe didn't adopt it as the standard

so chadamo does v2g as standard and cars are < £5k well that is cheap for a home battery compared to a tesla powerwall or givenergy sit it on the drive on octopus tariff and it could make good money :) saves ripping the battery out for the same thing and you have a second car when needed. Got to be a catch :)
@bellshooter10 ай бұрын
You need a DC charger/grid unit at (say) 11-22 kW , not cheap.

One slight correction, Leafs have a type 1 AC socket so cannot use type 2 without an adapter or via a charging cable type 11 to type 2.

Dave you usually do your research, but to say the Nissan Leaf is the only UK EV on sale with CHAdeMO is just WRONG! What about the Lexus UX300e, great luxury city car, but for longer journey's these including the recent facelift use CHAdeMO. I drive one of these and quite put out that you just as good as say they don't exist 😞
