Go watch his self defense videos. The majority of the techniques are from standing.

@@lambosnicko yep, their martial art was Judo, after all. They just ended up doing more ground work than most Judoka (mostly becauae it's easier to beat other styles while on the ground)

So many terrible persons in this family...

Excellent and true 😃 the style is top of the line but the originator isn't that great as a person people need to remember that. Especially the people thinking about joining the cult of BJJ it's only a style he is only a man. They practically burn incense to his picture and speak about him as if he is a prophet wake up great style but😢 bad guy.

Helio Gracie fought another 7 feet tall and 500 pound Japanese giant. 😂

I study BJJ. I would not call the Gracie family genius. It is great for ground grappling but has no striking and does NOT have the throws that Judo has.

Ever heard of the UFC?
@djignatin40439 ай бұрын
yeah of course. I watch it from time to time. The most successful Judoka in UFC was Ronda Rousey. She got retired. BJJ people do better in UFC. Many have succeeded.

Karo Parisyan trained under Gene Labell was arguably a much better fighter. He was exciting to watch and translated gi Judo extremely well to no gi MMA. Not many more have really stood out as classic Judo, several Jiu Jitsu guys have thrived in that format. If your bjj school doesn’t incorporate striking and take downs, then it’s a sport school that doesn’t focus on all aspects of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. I’m directly under Royce, and we train striking and takedowns (both judo and wrestling) regularly. I personally love all forms of grappling, so saying any is better than another is kind of closed minded. The original Gracie Jiu Jitsu was formed directly from Judo, with an emphasis similar to Kosen Judo which focused more on ground work. They are all branches of the same tree. No other family has changed the entire world perspective of martial arts like the Gracie’s did. Like them or not, they changed everything for all of us. MMA doesn’t work today without a basic understanding of Jiu Jitsu. Grappling as a sport is globally growing faster than Judo is today for several reasons. All of which are a direct result of the Gracie family marketing. That said, they are still a very dysfunctional family, but show me one that isn’t…

@@professorstevehall5897 Yes that is true. The Gracie family suffer from Narcissism. I have spoken to them on the Internet.

Considero que los agarres de Helio Gracie hacen evidente que no tenía buenos fundamentos de Tachi waza. Los vídeos que existen al respecto muestran una deficiente técnica de nage waza.
