Gracie's are the most important family ever in mma but Royce lied about what happened. Eddie would never say he uses a gi to clean his floors. Royce definitely didn't like the attention the rubber guard was getting, didn't like that Eddie was better than Royler and didn't like that Eddie smokes weed and allows his students to do the same because he thinks it sets a bad example. Keep in mind Royce was busted for PED's. Look into the actions of the Gracie family from beating up rivals with pipes, cheating grapplers out of money (ralek), hijacking a motorcycle and attacking competitors (Ryan), attacking Flavio Almeida at a BJJ event cuz he opened up a school in Cali that would be competition (Ralph), Renzo spit on on one opponent and stomped on the head of another, Helio, Carlos and George jumped a former BJJ challenger in Brazil, shot at transvestites with rubber bullets (Roger), Renzo and Igor with 3 other men broke a bouncer's arm for not letting in their friend the previous week, Robin Gracie lost a Gracie challenge in Spain and decided that he and Royce would go to the man's work and pick a fight with the man and his brother because they were sore losers. The family is crucial to mma but I don't believe Royce because I have heard Eddie talk about the Gracie's and he's only spoke of them with the highest regard and respect.
@yogibr61844 жыл бұрын
@Fluke I love BJJ. Royce got me into mma. I love all the BJJ specialists in mma and follow all the top grapplers but I also don't like bullies and assholes. Im such a fan that I wanted to know everything about the incredibly interesting Gracie family. I just didn't like some of the stuff I discovered. Theres a natural tendency to want your heroes to be better men then you are just disappointing to hear things that contradict that. Doesn't stop me from being grateful for what that family accomplished or loving BJJ.
@yogibr61844 жыл бұрын
@Stephen Hogan What part of that wasn't calm? I just listed facts. I still love BJJ and am very grateful for the Gracies but Eddie definitely did not ever say he uses a gi to wipe his floors. That is a straight up lie. Anyone that has listened to Eddie speak knows he idolizes the Gracies and has only spoke of them in a positive light. So no that is complete opposite of what Royce said to Chael as far as the incident with Eddie. He may be all of our heroes but you don't have to excuse bad behavior and actions.

One of my favorite memories is talking with Royce (when I was at his school in Torrence back in about 1997) about specific moments in early UFC bouts. Like what sh*t fighters were saying to him that you could never make out in the videos and why he really sunk in the finishing choke against Gerard Gordeau in UFC 1 and didn't want to let go (Gerard had bitten him - I knew there must have been a good reason). These stories remind me of when Royce got popped for roiding. I asked Renzo about it at the time and he was very frank and matter of fact about the whole thing, admitting Royce was probably guilty. @@darrenarroyo603 in an mma fight? I think Eddie takes him, 10th planet implements other techniques like striking and traditional wrestling whereas the Gracies is basically all about fighting off the back and very one dimensional. Straight up BJJ it could go either way
@emanuelmartinez72674 жыл бұрын
@Trouser Troll actually he lost to sakuraba long before Hughes, this was after Royce had the rulez changed to no round limits and no ref stoppages which benefitted his style. He avenged that loss eventually but he tested positive for steroids and it was never overturned. Look at the guys Royce fought, outside of Shamrock (which was a draw the second time around) and Saku none of his opponents had experience in submission wrestling and were either strikers who didn't know what to do on the ground or freestyle wrestlers who at the time didn't know how to defend BJJ techniques. Eddie has already shown that his BJJ was at least on par with the Gracie's when he beat Royler. His style is designed for combat sports and allows for striking which is closer to MMA then the fight off the back style of the Gracies
@SuperMontsta4 жыл бұрын
@@emanuelmartinez7267 Shamrock dominated Royce in that 2nd fight too. He would have won if points were scored. The first fight, Shamrock got caught with a gi choke. Which is a surprising move for someone who never wrestled against someone that could and would use a GI to their advantage (or like when Gracie grabbed Kimos hair). Shamrock prepared for the strat the second time and just smothered him on top. Gracie's are definitely over rated. Similar jiu-jitsu was being taught in different parts of Brazil the same time the Gracies "invented" their style too. It was brought from Japan....Gracies just moved it north, popularized it, and named it after themselves. Nothing wrong with marketing like that, that's what business is about...but they definitely didn't discover the style on their own.

Gracie n his crew. You can try Sherdog the video was up for a while or try submission underground. Don’t know if it’s even still around it’s been forever but Eddie talked about it on Joe’s podcast.

Ryan Gracie was completely insane. If he liked you you were good but if he didn't watch out. I used to train at his gym in Sao Paulo as a kid.

In my opinion he was the most dangerous Gracie. Had good strikes to match his top level submission game. Sad ending to his story. RIP.

I thought Royce said several times that his big problem with Bravo was weed? A bit pathetic in my opinion but I thought that was the reason.
