I was just thinking the other day when I was cleaning my office, how well built my Herman Miller Embody Gaming chair is. The design has so much thought put into it, things you wouldn't notice at first glance. The bottom chair base (where the wheels go into) is designed where the top is a pyramid shape, which makes it so that dust and debris doesn't build up on it where other chairs are flat and it builds up dust. I have never been so happy with a chair, in terms of comfort, build quality, durability and design.

My two cents.. Jay throws his weight into his chairs. He even says as much. I don't care what chair you get. Someone his height and weight that just yeets themselves into a chair, is going to eventually get pops and creaking when sitting in it. They are designed for a specific max weight.. yeeting into it day after day is going to push the chair beyond that limit.

I bought a HM Gaming Embody about 2 years ago mostly based on your videos on reviewing chairs and can easily say it's the best chair I've ever owned. Seeing Jay's video on the Steelcase... yeah honestly if I was one of the people who bought one of those based on his recommendations and now seeing this video by him, I'd be pretty furious and probably not trust his opinion again, especially seeing how much money he made from that partnership. Really glad I found you especially when you put your own money on the line to review all those chairs. Keep up the great work.

I use a Steelcase Gesture for around 5 years now (for 40+ hours a week) and while I am generally really happy with it and don't regret the purchase at all, you have to admit, that it tends to do some squeeking noises when you move in certain ways. How loud and often it squeeks, seems to depend on the room temperature and/or humidity from my experience. My chair also had a failure of the tilt mechanism, which resulted in really loud cracks when leaning back (started after around 1 year of use). This however was fixed under warranty no problem and I got a replacement chair from my retailer during the time it was away for repair. I don't have any problems with the headrest, but I also don't use it as often and when I do, it's in the way you are describing as the intended way.

it depends on the user of the chair, if you have been watching Jay for the past few years, he isn't sort of a person who is gentle with things (except PC stuff and components), even with his car he isn't particularly gentle with them either, so with that mentality, his "fat" just sit on the chair day in and day out, its bound wear itself out pretty quick, but i give credit to that gas cylinder didn't explode though

I have an Embody, a newer office one. And it's not as great as the internet makes it out to be. It was very loud when I first got it and I had to lube the heck out of the seat suspension rails to quiet it down. The backrest does not conform to the back as well as some non-adjustable chairs with natural curves do. I would caution anyone to be prepared to return it within 30 days if they aren't totally happy with it or they could get stuck with a too-expensive chair that is not as comfortable as ones half its price.

I have a gesture at work. It's from before i started, so not sure how old it is, but it has most of the same issues. It creaks a lot, and the headrest is very floppy. We tried getting it covered by the warranty, but due to being in a country where steelcase no longer sells chairs officially, we would have to pay for shipping both ways which ends up at around €300. Edit: I dont know who used it before, but it wasn't creaking when i started. I'm about 60kg, so my weight should not be an issue. I slouch a lot, and put my weight on the backrest, but again, at my weight it shouldn't be a problem

If we're talking nerdy differences between the Embodys then: - Gaming Embodys obviously have a design on the sync fabric for the backrest that makes it not flat. - Gaming Embodys have an extra strip of foam that runs down the center of the backrest, this strip is about 15cm wide. - Gaming Embodys have a layer of "copper-infused cooling foam" under the sync fabric on the seat. Also worth noting that sometime in 2021 Herman Miller addressed an issue where this foam did not extend far enough to cover the area of the seat that can be extended, so taller folks who pulled the seat out would feel there was no foam at the edge of the seat. It's unclear when the cutoff date for this is, but it's sometime in 2021. - Regular Embodys made after ~Feb 2021 instead have a layer of scrim foam under the seat to give them a similar level of cushion as the gaming variant. Prior to this date the sync fabric interfaced directly with the pixel structure on the non-gaming. Everything else outside of trivial things like colors is pretty much hearsay and hasn't been demonstrated by stripping a chair down.

Aluminum frame is always great. To maintain the flexibility, I think they'd have to incorporate some plastic though.

Steelcase are dumb. I love the headrest on my Humanscale Freedom and I will never buy another chair without one. Ironically I use it both ways, the correct way and also with it against the back of my head. Got rid of my Embody for the Freedom and never been happier. Like I have said before, a Steelcase Leap with Gesture arms and headrest it would be a killer chair, I would buy one in a heartbeat and for full price. For now I will happily sit in my Freedom. I finally am happy with a chair and not actively searching for my next one.

every company has their own short comings, no company is perfect wouldn't you agree? i've tried the freedom chair and i don't like how it pushes your head/neck forward when you are leaning back, its a personal pref, but i don't like it at all, also the seat padding seems a little thin to me, but arms are extremely easy to adjust, but nowhere near the flexibility/adjustability as LEAP

@@droomagon I don't disagree with you, that's why I said a Leap with a headrest like that and the Gesture 4D arms would be elite. The Freedom padding is definitely thin and I wish it had the solid build quality of my Steelcase, Herman Miller or Haworth chairs but it works. I am sitting on it right now and even though the padding on it is thin it kind of works. I still have a Leap and a Haworth Improve HE from the 90's and those things are tanks, the fabric and padding so much better too. I would kill for a Leap with a Freedom headrest and Gesture 4D arms, full price with no hesitation. I had a love/hate relationship with my Embody and had pure hate for my Haworth Fern. I find the Zody much nicer. If you kind of slouch in the Freedom it kicks the back back more than normal and is kind of comfortable for watching TV. You can't always replicate it but it will do it. I also have a fabric Freedom which I suspect is more comfortable than a leather one, my Fern was leather and I just hated it.

Tbh when I pay premium for a product, I expect to not use the warranty because... its a quality product. If it costs 2k euros for a chair and it breaks down after one month you bet I will want a refund and not a warranty repair. Just got the ikea Järvfjället for 170 euros and saving up for a gaming embody blind buy, hope it lives up to the hype of the 2k euros price point in my country.

I guess maybe I'm too into the chair world now, because that $2k price is NOT for the product. The product prob costs like $300-500, and most companies spend $1,500 is on marketing + profits. But there are a few companies out there where the $1,500 is also focused on after purchase / customer support, and I've had personal experiences with Herman Miller, Steelcase, and Humanscale and all their customer service experiences were excellent (either people came to my house or they shipped me a box and I just rolled my chair in, and someone came and picked it up to get fixed).

I could see where you’re coming from if I said it in a negative context, but it was just a matter of fact / interesting point. It may be a surprise to some, but he has 4M subscribers and KZbinrs talk about money quite often, so many people know that that number is par for the course.

@Ahnestly it just seemed to me every time he said something bad about the chair you clap back at him. Not everybody's going to have a positive experience with a product. My Andaseat cushion is all ripped up from sitting on it plus my dog puts his paws on it. I paid $500 a year ago for it. Would I buy a new one? Yes I would and I'm not blaming the company for it. I could also just get matching leather and stick it over my seat which I thought of.

I could be wrong, but I agreed with him about the headrests being a real and serious issue. I agreed that squeaks and pops weren’t okay either. But the squeaks and pops only happened to his chair(s). If you watch the original video, his editor tries to tell him multiple times that his chair is ok and the other guy only talks about his headrest being missing, so no clapping back, just operating off the info provided
