Challenge yourself with Photography. Planning your Photographic shoots, can often stifle your creativity. Simon Booth Spoke about this recently. I have chosen to accept that Photography Challenge, and go on a shoot, without a plan. As a photographic planner - I may struggle with this. As I have not been out with the camera for a long time - it feels like i am just getting back into Photography! Come with me and accept the challenge - give it a go!

Thanks for the plug buddy! Where do I start! Boy have you made a commitment there and you'd better stick to it or I'm going to send the KZbin police out to get you...nine films it is! I love watching your videos as they are always so calming to watch and listen to, like a tonic...The Tonic of Wildness! Now theres a title! You can't help but come away with a feeling of appreciation for the outdoors and nature with the mix of great narration and carefully thought out visuals. That Phase 1 is a beast for sure but it left me feeling a bit cold. That price tag is out of range for the vast majority of folk and seems disproportionate when you think that at the end of the day, it's just a camera and will depreciate in value, unlike a piece of fine art that will eventually become a worthy investment. I sincerely hope that Brett can make it pay for itself! What I will say is this, it made the Pentax look like a Ford Fiesta but hey, they are collectable now! I really like all of the images, but the surpriser was the pine needles. Not your style at all but it just goes to show, once you learn to see with your "eyes wide open", anything in nature is on the table. Great film :-)

Thanks Simon, You are more than welcome, and as i said, it was your vid that spurred me on! It was actually a really interesting (but difficult) process for me. The Phase one - a beast indeed, and people who buy these things will be offset through businesses to depreciate and reduce tax paid, unlike privateers buying one. I enjoyed the pine needle image too, and had a Simon Booth feel about it! "Eyes wide open" indeed. 8 )

I have juts counted - there are 82 data pieces in this all graded, and volume ramped, not withstanding the crossfades and transitions. Hi David. I dont think i cold ever justify it... in fact i know i couldn't, but yes what a piece of kit indeed. It a focus automated stacking motors in side which you cna pre programme and off it goes. It make noises like a bird. Its incredible! Can a camera resolve too much detail though?

Hey Ewan, it's great to see you back inspiring us to get out and shoot. Phase ONE..... they are an amazing piece of equipment but far out of reach financially for most of us (unless we sell our house). I know Ken Duncan has been using one for a few years and recently he has been photographing wild life. I've see some of his large prints in his gallery from that camera and they are AMAZING. I love your approach in this episode, no plan, I also find that difficult to do and it often prevents me from going out at all. The last time I was out seriously was in February in Lofoten (what an amazing place that is).I was also planning to go to NZ late July/August -South island to get in amongst the snow & mountains......maybe 2021!? I love the 3 images you shared, all different in approach but all beautifully captured. Looking forward to seeing more in the next few months. Cheers Phil

And that''s how you put together a KZbin video! Brilliant work Ewan. H and I have just spent the last 30 mins scraping ourselves back up off the floor after looking up the price of the PhaseOne! It must be quite something. Really excited to hear about your plans for the next few months for KZbin, in particular, the video series examining why we do photography sounds right up our street. It must have been difficult not having a plan (that's pretty much how I work most of the time!) but the images were superb, particularly liked the one of the forest floor. S.

It took ages to put together and very nearly had a disaster right at the very end, so this one, is actually the preciously saved one, and not the final final version, as with my fully adjusted one, the sound files all became corrupted. Re the plans for the vids... i do hope i described it properly and you aint disappointed! The Phase One - yeah... that is a big price tag for what is a camera at the end of the day. Take care, Ewan

Morning Ewan, great to see you back filming YT video. Those Redwoods are stunning and great to see a phase one in action .. your reaction when seeing the detail then the exhale of breath when Brett said the price, priceless!! As you panned through the scene of the blue pool I was thinking, yes you need to click the shutter - cracking images but that pool shot was a stunner. Loved the video Ewan and as usual nice images. the cost of the Phase One blew me away. I think my wife would divorce me if I asked for one of those toys...LOL. I don't plan my shoots I just go out and enjoy the outdoors with no expectations. Sometimes I don't even bother getting the camera out and just enjoy the moment. other times my may just shoot away. As I have gotten older I have tended to shift from grand vistas, (which I still take now and then) and moved towards the more intimate landscapes. I think It reinforces that sense of connection with the landscape and nature. I will look forward to your upcoming videos. Take care and stay safe.

Back after too long. Ive actually missed making them. Its easy to choose not to, as they are complicated t put together. I think these generally take me about 15 hours to construct in Final Cut. Ill get back onto it though! Cheers Christopher.

Nice video. But look, whatever the IQ4 is fantastic and so on .. It is deadly EXPENSIVE and no one on the globe can persuade me that it deserves the price, when you talk about $55k or more it is unbelievable, and it makes this product as a hype or just a thematic or something in the dreams! They must be much logical and fair about being so arrogant of their product, for my best estimations, this piece of so bulcky art must be somewhere between $(8000 to 10000) and that is for the largest full medium format sensor, that is is 2.7times the ordinary full frame which the IQ4 is the one of two examples out there.

Hi Eric - I agree, the Phase One camera is an incredibly top end and niche part of the industry being out of reach of all but a few of people. They do however have a very niche sector of the market and i know that for original artwork to be reproduced and printed extremely large as many artists will commission for exhibitions, it requires something of this magnitude for reproduction and up close viewing distances at 12880DPi. The price though - yes, you are right - They probably justify it, as the sometimes get it! Its a lot of money though. I know that I couldnt reproduce the replication work with my CMOS medium format sensor. Id maybe rather have a Hasselblad and a swimming pool instead though! Thanks for your interaction. @@EwanDunsmuirImages Hi, I agree, but the Hasselblad is expensive, for the same size sensor, even it is 100Mp. The smaller sized medium format won't be a huge transition from full frames. The printing you talked a bout is rare, the 12880DPI.

I think the 44/33 sensor on mfd which is in all the CMOS based MF system (X1D/ 50C/ GFX) is about 1.7 bigger than the FF sensor, which makes a fair bit of difference when you print at 1.5 - 2m The printing is rare indeed, but think that almost a museum curator requirement when exhibiting in National Galleries particularly, which is probably the type of Photographers who buy these things. Its all very intriguing though, huh!

That sensor however , IS incredible and readily available now, which makes it even better! YUSSSS for market competition! = )

Hey John, I know right!? There is a well known Photographer called Paul Reiffer, who also used the Phase One for his landscapes and he does Panoramas with them! Its a serious piece of kit though! Regards, Ewan
