Ever had a top performer on your team unexpectedly quit?
It sucks.
Recently I had someone move on from SPS to start their own thing.
I didn’t see it coming…and of course it was right before Thanksgiving / Christmas. 🤦
Luckily, I’d already recorded this video! lol ...so I went back and watched it to come up with a plan of attack.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve refilled the position with someone amazing and the company is in a much better spot.
Check out this video to find out what to do when you have a top employee quit unexpectedly!

To employers reading this, as a top performer who has suddenly quit various times for better pecuniary advantages : don't ever make your top performers feel like you're treating them "just like everyone else" out of "fairness" or refuse them the raise and bonus they ask ; otherwise, whatever happens next, you had it coming to you.

I don't think it will get to that point for me, but who knows? My boss is my one and only mine trap at work. My boss was upset I had signed up for a one-person shift. I'll admit I'm kind of a slow learner and do much better with a helping hand and guide, but come on, that's no excuse for being insensitive. One of our student leader's responsibilities is organizing who works which shifts on the schedule, and my boss scolded him for not noticing I had signed up for a one-person shift. When she asked him if she thought I could do the shift, I answered for him with a firm "yes," because I felt belittled by her. She said she didn't think so, was all _"I've told you not to sign up for shifts by yourself, I've been very clear about that, I don't know how much clearer I can get for you to listen"_ (something like that, so I'm not perfectly quoting her), and she told me I need someone there to give me instructions and guide me. I regretfully didn't stand up for myself, because I was intimidated. Well, now I harbor a huge amount of resentment toward her, and I pretty much don't care about her anymore. Of course, I can't quit just because of her, because the job itself is actually beneficial. I just wish she didn't work there anymore.

Why would anyone go back on their word????? What would you think of someone that has accepted an offer from YOU, and then they go back on their word? Good advice on cross -training: for more reasons than people quitting: people go on vacation,. get sick, etc.

I can confidendetly say in every entry level job, I've been a "star" employee, even now in my current job, which is entry level, I'm already doing "star employee things" Only job I've had, and honestly my only "real" job. I had to scratch and claw for being in the position I had, and even then, being an African American in the position I was in was just not heard of, but once I realized I wasn't gonna move up, combined with personal life, it was time to go. Now I think I may be pushing too hard because I really want to be the best, and, I know I am... confidendetly: However; I don't want to pressure the younger staff or managers. Shod I just chill and pull back a bit, or keep going at it hard? It's a simple job and I do more than asked, but I like it. Thoughts?
