Chanel Cristalle Eau De Toilette pre-2023-Bottle Fragrance Review & Perfume Secrets Revealed

Dear KZbin friends, today I review one of Chanel's most elusive fragrances present on some markets today. Cristalle eau de toilette was first released in the early seventies, exclusively in the eau de toilette concentration. It has then been released as an eau de parfum concentration in the nineties and as a flanker in the naughties but the original Cristalle will forever remain the eau de toilette, formulated by Henri Robert. Henri was the last perfumer to work for Coco while she was still alive. It appears as though he knew Coco very well because his last chypre creations for Chanel in the late sixties and early seventies seem to deliver a rare quality: they all smell the way Henri perceived Coco to be like, allegedly. My theory is that Cristalle eau de toilette represents a portrait of Coco Chanel in her last years, but in perfume form. How is that possible? Lets find out together in this video. I have the EDT. I ordered it when you first had mentioned it’s possible discontinuation. Total blind buy. My nose picks up that cigarette vibe, clean almost sterile and green. You described this fragrance very well. Bitter loneliness… beautifully said. There is a certain cold melancholiness to it. I’m glad I own it. I struggle with it, but I think I understand it better now. Thank you for your insight.

Depending on which country you are in, the edp might be stocked but the edt might be discontinued.

Its a beauty of a perfume and will apparently be back in a new bottle design for Cristalle that will be streamlined to look like the No5 edp bottles. Sad that they are turning everything into one same design…

I’ve tried this fragrance before without owning one. I was not into it but now I know why by the way you described the background of Coco to this particular fragrance. I don’t like lonely and dry and sadness. I love something uplifting and classy. Although the bottle is absolutely stunning! The Chanel 5 edt gives the “happily ever after “ vibe after the Cristalle to which I think gives a happy ending to remember Coco Chanel for who she was and what she stood for. She was always ahead of her time which is why I love her other fragrances so much. Especially, the classic Coco fragrance is my number 1 love for me. Such beautiful poetic monologue my darling love 💕 it’s definitely a love letter to her 🥰🥰

I have just purchased the new branding bottle of Cristalle EDP at John Lewis in the UK department store. It’s the same shape bottle as Coco Mademoiselle and No 19 EDP, so square with the heavy glass. This is no where on line yet, but a delivery was literally being unpacked when it was purchased. It’s been unavailable on line here in the UK for 12 months. I had already phoned Bond Street to ask if it was being discontinued a few months ago and they told me it was being rebranded and launched again in the Autumn, but would probably only be available in stores not on line. Anyway I have a new bottle of the rebrand EDP so it’s definitely being made. My own opinion is I don’t think the Toilette or Eau Verte will be I am guessing they will only keep the parfam, but let’s see! Luckily I have been stock piling it so haven’t run out.

Hi Dacob! Love all your reviews. Is a fact that a Cristalle C was found into the purse of the person now in jail for murder of Texas singer Selena. Her bottle is one numbered evidence. Those were days when she wanted the only attention of the artist and to live her way of life into Selena's boutique, venues and luxury. Buf there was much sadness and troubles during those last days that when the separation was a fact she finally took the singer's life. Would you think should this event be one of the reasons to reformulate even when this event was in 1995? Its incredible your description is so precise was like reading about this sad episode happened far from France but in US.

I remember when this perfume first came out it was just so strong and I remember shying away from it. I regret it now. The cristalle vert is still available on the US Chanel site. Do not know for how much longer, though it also shows that the original is sold out.

I agree! Definitely NOT "cozy, inviting, pleasant". I never liked it... too cold, too stark. This is downright chilly! You can't call it beautiful. Those field flowers! Not my style. Austere to a fault. Sorry, just my opinion.
