Dear Dakob, after having the bag for a while there's only one thing I can say about it: I adore it. It's better than my Alma BB, better than my GG marmont matelassé, better than my Speedy, better than the 2.55, better than any luxury bag I have... It's PLEASURE, it's BEAUTY, it's ANGELS and GOD at the same time. I love it SO much... Can't understand why so many people don't like it. And you know what... it's a bag which grows and grows on you and gets more and more beautiful and divine the longer you possess and use it. And it turns heads. Every head. From 16 year old Pharrell-fan to 60 year old Gabrielle-fan. It's a very mysterious bag... never experienced something like this. Next song video: Me with the bag. Can't be without it, not even a second.

Hi Dacob, great video! I bought the Gabrielle bag (all black/ medium) and love it! Love wearing it with one strap on the shoulder and the other around my waist. So far I don't have issues with quality. I'm excited to see more colors/ leather combinations in the future.

Dear Jen, that is great to hear! So please keep us updated as to how it holds up. All the models I have seen have been made in Italy. Was yours made in France by any chance or also made in Italy? The bag I show on the photos in my video is also the medium full black version. Where do you put your bag when you are out and about and need to sit...? Do you store it on your lap or do you put it on the table or do you always hang it on a back of a chair? I am asking since the bottom shell seems very prone to scratches and since CHANEL did not put any legs on it, I fear for the leather... xoxo

yes it's made in Italy! Depending on the location, I hang it on the back of a chair or store it on my lap. You are right, the leather on the bottom part seems fragile and very prone to scratches - I will keep you updated on how it will wear. I feel now that the boy has kind of become part of their 'classic range' this bag has great potential to develop into something exciting (already dreaming of the endless possibilities of different color/leather/hardware combinations). Plus, it's very secure and there is literally no way anyone can grab your bag if you wear one of the straps around the waist :).

What a great detailed review!! Loving your video ! Please keep it up. I've tried the medium -sized Gabriellle bag in store last Friday. My SA showed me a few ways of wearing this bag as well, on the shoulder, cross body and even as a backpack.... still I just don't click with the bag as the shape and as well the contrast material (soft on the top and hard on the bottom)... after watching your video, I'm even more convinced that it won't be the next IT bag of Chanel.

Hi Kny. I am still not impressed at all with this bag. Its still in y opinion far from CHANEL quality standards and its still just a very time specific bag that will not age well. Again... this is just my opinion... People can spend their money however they see fit. I will spend mine elsewhere... xoxo

I don't know why Chanel keeps coming up with new designs when they can't even perfect the design and production quality of their classics. There are many improvements that can be done to all of it including the WOC ( zipper placement). Single flap classic ( slanting forward) double flap ( difficult to open) boy bag ( chain is chunky) and the overall heaviness of an empty jumbo classic. I think since they cost like a small car, they could have at least employed engineers to revamp it. Lol.

Oh yes! All your points are very valid! There is much room for improvement for sure and I find it ironic that the only bag that is perfect all around is the original 2.55 bag! The 2.55 is the heart of and CHANEL bag! I like that a part of that heart is in the Gabrielle bag but unfortuantely most of the bag is just not thought through well enough. Its like they did not have enough time to really design it through enough ;) xoxo

Hi sweetheart, as always a delightful video about this bag. I am considering to get the mermaid-unicorn (iridiscent) Gabrielle just because I am a big big fan of the “special” editions more than the classics but in black is amazing too.I must to confess that this model doesn’t stole my heart at the first time but there is something special with this model and I think that the idea behind the design is very bold so, at this point my doubt is small or medium size? Thanks for sharing. I tried this bag yesterday, medium size is perfect on me. Its light weight bag and very fun when you have many options to wear her. But there was somerhing that made me hesitant to purchase her. I saw her not having enough luxury appeal which Chanel's bag should have.

Great video Dacob! I've seen the bag up close. I love the hard and soft leather contrast. And how subtle the bag is with the CC just on the zipper. But I feel like the overall quality was just not there for a brand like Chanel and also for the money. What puts me off completely was the canvas lining of the bag. The canvas was just really mushy and definitely did not fit the exterior of the bag. Oh well. At least my money is safe. :) Thank u for the video.

Hi Inq, I honestly do not like the shape of the COCO handbags. They do not spark my fire in any way. Boy bags too are not my cup of tea. I only ever really liked the pop synthetic boy bags from the spring summer 16 airplane collection but those bags were all made in Italy so I didn't want them. Not liking the Italy manufacturing of CHANEL bags. xoxo

Hi Jacob! The bag looks pretty but I wouldn't buy it. From 2013 till 2016 I was buying most my Chanels new from the store. But now with the exorbitant prices I have decided to only buy preloved (partly influenced by you!) Was wondering if I can get your opinion on Chanel Nylon bags. It is a 14 series nylon bubble flap bag with quilted tweed stitching. Do you think it is durable and a good alternative to say a seasonal leather flap bag?

Hi Janice! Good choice to buy preloved :) Nylon is tricky since it is a plastic material and it can dry with time and crack. All depends how it was stored... Inspect the bag for any cracks carefully before purchasing! a 14 series is not that old but still old enough to show wear and cracks if it was stored and used without care. xoxo

Good point. In the smaller bags I hate the teeth of the zippers. I have the small Gucci, the black zig-zag-striped one in black-creme white and my hands suffer from this small opening. In the big Gabrielle it's a bigger opening and not a big probem. But I know what you mean. From the little gucci my hands sometimes look like I have a crazy-brutal cat in my house.

another bag that will appeal to some,for the money most will go towards the classics.....or another brand, I have been loving Dior lately,I have tons of LV when Marc was in the house, and love the quality and styles from then. I love Chanel, I do have some and enjoy them,I do not love the thought going into Chanel bags lately,artistic and functionally. The shell bottom(Gabrielle) will scratch like crazy because the inside is so hard,when it comes in contact with things,there is no give. it also looks like a mushy mismosh. Chanel should Look majestic.Each piece demanding you to stare at it. Thank you so much dear MJ :) I agree with you! That hard shell bottom which CHANEL's design team seams to have given all their attention to when designing this bag is a flop! It has no give and it will scratch just by looking at it! Plus no feet?!?!?! No way! Also the open leather edges are a no go! Cheapens the bag completely! I am used to CHANEL closing all leather edges! They really went cheap on this bag and think they can trick us into feeling like we need it! Well, think again brand marketing cuz we don't need an expensive money making gimmick! Its becoming flakier by the minute up in here.... xoxo

Some elements are true about how they made it. I have medium GST, i found it convenient, matchs with business and causal depending on how you adjust the chain...and i think it can use as everyday bag, classy, trendy but not old. Just think different.

GST? The GST series has been discontinued years ago... typo? I have the GST XL and I love it but unfortunately CHANEL does not produce it any longer. Would have loved to get it in different colors. As for the Gabrielle bag... just not on par with CHANEL quality standards and the glazed leather edges and rubber added are the biggest no go for me so I stick to my position and would not purchase one. I can think different and I do but the moment a price is set so high, my "different" thinking" does not involve accepting a lesser product for a higher price. Add to that that this is the first CHANEL bag that is really truly mass produced and the first bag they allowed their authorized sale points like Nordstrom or Saks or others to sell on their WEBSITES and I say even a bigger no! Its a bag produced on the conveyor belt... in such high numbers... the price is just not right here on any level... but again, to each their own... xoxo

Oh my God! We were thinking on the same wave length in regards to the zipper and the opening of the bag in comparison to the Lady Dior! When I saw the interior shot of the Gabrielle on the Purse Forum, my thoughts were "people are going to complain about that zipper opening in no time". Plus I found the interior of the bag to be too busy... one side with the pocket arrangement of the classic/2.55 layout of the two pockets and the lipstick holder in the middle and then the other side you have a normal zippered pocket and then you also have that leather strap thing so that you can attach your keys on it... The inside of the bag is also a mishmash of Chanel's iconic bags... The outside, I am not fond of, nor am I fond of the inside. The overall design of the bag feels as though Chanel procrastinated on a bag designing assignment and just decided to combine elements of their best sellers into a bag shape that is apparently 'revolutionary'. Give me a mini 2.55 instead please! Love your content btw, new subscriber here!

I admit when you showed the first picture, I was dying to reach out and feel that oh so soft looking leather. That part of the bag appealed to me, the distressed look. I saw the quality issues too with the other parts even as or before you were mentioning them. As,for the style, it's meh...the one combo that appealed to me was the beige upper with the black. This whole year of Gabrielle thing, I have been pondering it and I am truly wondering if this is Lagerfeld's swan song to the brand. Finishing off at what he envisioned, perhaps what the beginning of Chanel was, and where he ends his tenure as creative director. Just a thought...:)Xoxo!

And it is soft! But not as soft as the 2.55 reissue ;) The style is meh when you use it. I find the hard shell bottom to be very unpractical. It of course does not bend and does not adapt to the body and it also has no feet... you cannot put it on any surface really or you risk to scratch it... and if you keep it on your lap, it will stay stiff and chunky and hard since the bottom is in resin... weird bag al in all and it has very little to do with anything practical really... pitty... missed opportunity if you ask me... as for the swan song.. who knows... he has a lifelong contract... He will stay till he passes away... like Coco did... at least it feels that way... xoxo

A great review, Dacob. Personally, it doesn't appeal to me. I'm not a big fan of the hobo or the bucket bag. The only one in the Gabrielle series that I like is the flap bag, but even then it is close to the classic flap, the reissue and the Gucci marmont that I wouldn't bother. I certainly wouldn't pay the prices they are asking given the quality or lack thereof.

Thank you for the video. I had found myself hoping that I would end up liking this bag (initial reaction dismay!) because I thought it might have been the one Chanel bag which I could carry. But the design flaws you have pointed out have totally put me off once and for all. I have no doubt that you are right about the problems and if you can notice so many flaws I cannot imagine why the design team at the House of Chanel could not notice. Thank you for reading out my comment. It does annoy me when fashion houses prematurely or inaccurately claim that their designs are iconic or going to be iconic. I hope my comment did not sound too pretentious though! Another problem is that a bag like that should have feet. Enjoy your day!

I like it. I've bought it yesterday. The black big one. I also have the 2.55 but don't like it. Almost never wear it. It's uncomfotable to wear because the chain has no padding and when I have my purse with some coins in it it hurts my shoulder SO much after half an hour. I have very skinny shoulders (see music videos) and it rubs my skin red to the bone... This one is much better, softer, the chain has a soft strap to put on the shoulder... Better job from Chanel this time. I mean, what was meant as being comfortable in Mademoiselle Chanel's times, isn't comfy today... 2.55 is nice for a shelf, not for the shoulder. But Gabrielle = like.

Hi Wusel. Thank you for your feedback. Just a quick note: CHANEL's first 2.55 bag did not have a plain metal chain. What was considered comfortable in Coco's days is still comfortable today. In fact, her first 2.55 bag was in jersey and the metal chain had a piece of long jersey attached to one side for softer padded wear. The jersey was not intertwined in the leather but was sewn onto one side of the chain. That was the most comfortable chain to wear. Today's CHANEL bags have different types of straps and metals. One can find his or her match but the Gabrielle bag does not have the most comfortable chain CHANEL has to offer today. It is too thin compared to the size of the bag and with time it will also cut in to the skin when you wear it alot because the bag itself is much heavier than the 2.55 reissue because of the bottom hardshell bit as well as the size.

Thank you for the info. I didn't know the old 255 had a padded strap. :) I know, it's a bit too thin but for my tiny shoulders a thinner strap is more wearable and looks better. Like in my LV speedy 35. It's okay even when I run errands and have 2 kilos of potatoes, a bread and a milk bottle in it. :) Everything is okay, only the plain metal chains bother my shoulder skin.

Yes, the plain metal can be a bit less comfy for sure, especiall yif you have the big size. It can weigh one down.

My mom has the jacket and the necklaces (she's a crazy chanel collector *rolleyes*) and what I'm searching for are the socks. I love his yellow-black striped socks but can't find where to buy them. Do you have an idea?

I think this bag do have chance to become a classic. If you think about it, the Chanel GST was considered a 'classic' however the Gabrille is much more interesting than the GST.

Dear Bee.... personally not my favorite.. its too mature looking but in a way as if it wanted to look younger despite it being mature. I do not like when something looks like its uncomfortable in its own design... unless you don't want the small one... because the small one is super cute because the size brakes the rigid business-y conservative look of the bigger size... but then again the little one would hold like nothing in it I guess... Hmm... difficult... but I have to say my tastes are shifting from day to day... until yesterday for example I really didn't like the boy bags and today I kinda wish I had purchased the craziest model of boy from last year's 2016 summer collection... it was a boy made in nyon fibres and synthetic upper with a touch of neon here and there... I didn't even consider it back then cuz I didn't like the boy and on top of that it was made in Italy... but now I kinda regret not giving it even a second thought... I say with bags follow your heart! Oh by the way.. I think the diorever bag was designed by the same designer that designed the boy bag ;) On a nother note... how do you like the new CHANEL structured tip handle bags? xoxo

I like the 'trendy' bag more than the coco handle I don't like rigid handles hence my lack of interest in the lady Dior - as for new season I haven't looked recently, except to stalk the boy woc my current obsession! They just updated the bottle. Eau premiere has always been an eau de parfum concentration. The reformulation of the ingredients happened around 2014 and the fragrance has been stable since then. xoxo

The canvas lining is the main reason why I don't have a Boy bag. Luxury bags should have a leather lining. Also, many Boy bags, even almost new ones on the secondhand market have wear and tear.

I personally am finding myself loving more and more fabric material bags... in denim, silk, jersey, tweed, even experimental synthetic materials... I kind of got bored of leather and am realizing and understanding more and more that luxury is also about amazing textiles and delicate pieces as well... Just because we spend a lot of money on a luxury bag should not have to mean that this bag automatically has to have the resistance to wear and tear of a tank. Some bags are delicate and are made to be treated with a lot of care and perhaps used for special occasions only... and then there are more heavy duty luxury bags too but all in all I would not generalize there... xoxo

The thing about the Gabrielle bags is they do not look like seasonal bags, but they do not look like classics as well. Is there potential? I'm not quite sure... I don't see "Chanel", is it just me? The quilting is there, yes. The logo, the chain yada yada yada, all the elements that make a Chanel 2.55 bag are present, but it looks like a "modified" classic chanel silhouette with odd variations in all dimensions just to make it look "new". When LV revealed the Petite Malle as an allusion to their travel heritage, Nicholas G-cantspellit-er made an impactful tribute bc oh my god the petite malle was 1.) unique 2.) luxurious 3.) very flashy hence very LV. If this is Chanel's return to Gabrielle, I'm more intrigued than disinterested but not hopeful. Personally, I think they returned to Gabrielle years ago with Reissue. Just my opinion though. Wonderful comment dear Raye! I completely agree with you! They returned to Gabrielle when they reissued the 2.55 years ago! But perhaps it was not a return to Gabrielle... after all, Gabrielle was not the Chanel of the 2.55... The 2.55 was a return to Mademoiselle more than a return to Gabrielle! I would have personally made a Gabrielle bag in more of a bucket shape... something reminiscent of Gabrielle's period when she was working at the srpings of Vichy or from the period when she started making her hats.. I would have made a reference to hats in the shape of the bag... ;) xoxo

Although I'm glad Chanel is trying to add to it's handbag vernacular with the Gabrielle bag, I don't think it was as thought out as it should be. The bottom is reminiscent of the 2005 bag and a ballet pointe shoe. I wonder, if like a pointe shoe, if it would soften with day to day use and not be so rigid. I also have a problem with the way they have decided to attach the handle as it looks like they simply cut a piece of belt leather, sewed it to the bag and edge coated it to look finished. Why couldn't they have extended it from the bottom of the bag along to sides for added structure and stability for the distressed calfskin? I too forsee ripping, tearing, and added stress on the distressed calfskin which will make the bag unrepairable and, even worse, unwearable. Love your videos and your intelligent and passionate insight!!

This bag is everything that Coco Chanel wouldn't approve of! Outsourcing production, not thinking through the design, ignoring the essential quality and price ratio and solely relying on the name "Gabrielle" and very heavy branding (quilting, CC charm zipper pull, chain...it's for the uneducated shopper who have no understanding of craftsmanship, nor quality. The Chanel standard has changed...it is more and more of overpricing poorly designed products and targeting new customers with a less trained eye! Great review!

I just do not like the production and all design flaws that come with it... the idea is there.. but it definitely needs a heck of a lot of fine tuning and thninking through. There is nothing wrong with the edge coat of leather. The Hermes Birkin basically uses edge coat all over the edges of the bag and their edge coat lasts for a LONG time. I expect Chanel to be of the same quality.

I do not agree. First thing: CHANEL and HERMS are on different levels and should not be compared. They are not even produced in the same factories. We are talking of a different quality all together (otherwise one would expect them to be in the same price range for their main classic bags... This if one gives HERMES the benefit of the doubt that their proces reflect the higher than CHANEL (alleged) qualitiy). Second point: CHANEL never used glazing on their main bags in the past. Its a quick solution and a cost effective one in this case. On top of that the glazing done on these bags is uneven and lumpy. These bags are brand new so only time will tell how well or bad they hold up to wear and tear but it is clear that many "design" and "production" choices on this bag were made to cut costs and maximize profits.

I really don't understand why you guys hate the Gabrielle. Chanel always has its cool part and elegant part. The 2.55 flap bag ist like the symbol of its elegant side and I think the Gabrielle is the best form of representing its cool and edgy side! You can have so many different ways to wear it! I just LOVE it! This is the only Chanel bag, which could also be wore by a man without looking too girly!

Oh lord, that thing is ugly - a utilitarian iPad vessel tarted up with an abundance of tacky Chanel bells and whistles. Weirdly the bottom of it is the best part, the shape is reminiscence of a ballet shoe.

A weird mishmash I wonder how it will wear over time 'ripping' etc I think they will get a lot of returns within a year of purchase. I think where the 2 parts join it will bulge over like a mushroom.
