Hi Amy, 2 videos in less than 24 hours! How spoiled I am! I got the beige on black (to change from my usual black bags collection) during the launch party back in 2017. I do love this bag but I admit I do rarely gravitate towards it. Being a guy, it does not look very understated on me. I have to dress very "casual" in washed denim/ old pink/ beige tone or chinos in order not to stick out too much. And 2 years ago, at a restaurant, my necklaces got caught in the bag's chains when I tried to take it off (I was wearing it crossbody V way) and it was a disaster: my tiger eyed stones sautoir ended up breaking and all the pearls fell on the floor. I had to take the stones back to the boutique which (thanks God!) was just in front of the restaurant! The necklace was fixed within 2 weeks...

OMG 😭 What a story and thank goodness you were able to get it repaired right away... Does that make you not love the bag as much because the experience? What if you got it in black?

@@FashionablyAMY Don't get me wrong, I do absolutely love this bag. I just don't gravitate towards it. Being a guy, it is very hard, especially during winter time, to find the right garnement to match the colour combination that I had chosen. Maybe indeed, it would have been easier if I had chosen black on black... There are also some safety reasons: the chains stick out too much and I am really afraid to attract negative attentions. There are a way too many pickpockets in Paris and French people also have the nasty tendency to be very judgemental about those stuffs : they (including the people who design those stuffs sometimes) see luxury only as a guilty and vain pleasure. Last year, I didn't have time to get changed and went to see my dentist carrying that Gabrielle bag. And the guy didn't look at my face once when he talked to me but was staring at my bag! Paris is a small city after all, and I am always worried a client or someone I know who is not too close to me, seeing me wearing those high-end outfits. And I have become even more paranoid about it since my appartment got broken into last March. I think had I lived in Asia, things would have been completely different. Even my Birkin and Kellys, I have to hide them in a random black fabric bag when I walk in the subway or on the streets. I carry them freely only in posh areas, how sad when I think about it.... That's why I do mostly carry clutches now when I go out. They are smaller and then more understated. Maybe I am just in a post-traumatic phase and it will hopefully change soon. What about you Amy? When you showed us your wardrobe 3 weeks ago, I was wondering how you would be able to wear all your self-portrait dresses and Balmain jackets. I remember Canadians as being a very plain, casual and simple population. It was a long time ago but they used to make fun at me all the time for being too sophisticated!? Haha And from what I've understood, you also evolve in the Asian community in Vancouver since you said you speak Cantonese on a daily basis. From the memories I can recall, the Asian diaspora there was also quite traditional with a very humble appearance. Don't you get judged sometimes? Or have things changed a lot since then? PS: If you think that my questions are too personal or intrusive, please feel free not to answer!

I still love mine but you have to make that decision for yourself. I think if you loved it enough, you would have gotten it already. They are not discontinued entirely, the boutiques still orders and sell the small sizes in black (like mine) every season.

Hi Amy, is the leather of your Gabrielle bags the same as the aged calfleather on the reissue? thank you :)

I have both a black Gabrielle in old medium and a black 2.55 Reissue in size small. I would say the leather is the same distressed calf but there are some differences in the stitching. The quilts on the Gabrielle are bigger than on the Reissue, and they seem to be completely flat; whereas, the quilts on my Reissue feel a little more puffy (not as puffy as the Classic flap though). Overall, I think that the leather on the Gabrielle is meant to be more slouchy compared to the Reissue, which should hopefully keep its shape better.

Excellent feedback @Azhar Clay ! And yes the leather seem similar but like I said in the video also, the seasonal Gabrielle seem to have thicker distressed calf which makes them sturdier and less crinkled as well. Probably depends on the batch of leather and the season it came out as well!

I suspect we'll see a big price increase in the coco handle since they're getting so popular. I also wonder if Chanel will bring back seasonal caviar mini's just to throw a wrench in the resale market, switch things up a bit. People are selling them for over $5k because they're unavailable. Chanel could easily sell them for $4,000

I have two Gabrielles and I love them. I have the old medium and the small croc embossed with handle from 19a (both black). I am on the taller side, so the old medium fits my body frame well. I probably end up using the larger size more. I live in San Francisco where it get chilly so I love that it can fit a rolled up Uniqlo puffer jacket. The croc embossed small looks a bit dressier than the classic distressed calf, so I tend to wear it out to dinner.

Hi Amy, i have the mini in grey, love it! I agree that the Gabrielle is very versatile & stylish especially if worn crossbody V way. Initially i was hesitant to get this model due to the size, but when the sales associate brought out the grey, i was sold. Its not that small actually, managed to make it work for me 🙂

Hi, no because i don't dare to wear it with jeans or darker colored clothing yet. I have been wearing lighter colored jersey material dresses whenever i plan to carry the bag ie. Light grey or mint green. So far im loving the bag, its so easy to use & the chain strap is so well designed. Is the grey still available in stores? I bought mine in early January.

What a super informative video. I have been on the fence on the Gabrielle for so long. I like the practicality and the mixed hardware. But I have so many bags that look now dated ( been collecting for 20 years). Sadly, they are now sitting on the shelf as I won’t get anywhere near even half they’re original value. For me it’s not the investment value, it’s the question whether in 5-10 years the style will still be relevant. What are your thoughts on it’s longevity?

I think it's partly what's going to be in trend in 5-10 years and partly your own taste preference. In my opinion, mini size bags are always going to be in trend and I don't mind the understated style of this hobo so I think I will still love it in 5-10 years for me.

Love the Gabrielle thanks to your reviews, Amy! Really appreciate you comparing it with the Coco handle as well, since I've been eyeing both! Do you think the black one is sagging a bit more because you are storing the bag with the chains on top? Or is the sagging more from frequent usage?

Ah ha! Remember I said the burgundy one has a thicker sturdier calfskin? I have a strong feeling that classic colors come with the softer more distressed calf then seasonal colors therefore they naturally sag more easily. In my case it is really because of use and if you are super worried, just tuck the chains inside the bag with the zip open 😉
