Chanel Will Never Be Hermès: New Prices Are Ridiculous!

Last year I was duped, sold a fake Chanel caviar quilted double flap by a reputable pre-loved market retailer. It was so flawless that the authenticator I consulted had a difficult time identifying it as a dupe. She said it was one of the highest quality dupes she'd come across & advised me to keep it. In her words: "I'd like to see Chanel match this quality & craftsmanship. But those days are behind us now." She even attempted to find the 'artisan' for "personal future reference." I kept the bag & even after a year of weekly non-precious use, it still looks spanking new. No scratches, no sign of wear, quilting as quilt-y as the day I bought it. Best pre-loved bargain ever. Literally blows my authentic Chanels out of their murky waters! 👜🌟

You have got to be kidding me. Mine was ridiculously overpriced when I bought it in 2022 so a bag that I’ve had for a year and a half is now going to be $3000 more than what I paid for it then there is no way in hell I would buy a Chanel now.

With some YSL and Armani fragrances the retail price for a 3.4 ounce or 4.2 ounce bottle is now $180. L'Oreal thinks they charge Tom Ford and Channel prices for their luxury beauty products and people won't mind paying these inflated prices. I already know Chanel like Luis Vuitton doesn't offer any discounts on their handbags. So these price increases are pretty ridiculous. How much are people willing to spend for a Chanel Handbag?

The irony is the market Chanel wants to cater to rarely buys their handbags and especially for that price. In fact, there are rumors going around that wealthy women are buying copy bags of designer bags. I believe that to be true because wealthy people tend to spend their money wisely. I HOPE Chanel’s ridiculous price increases backfire!

It's mind-boggling how this fashion house can blatantly jack up the prices on their bags while the quality dwindles each day and cater to the wealthy, all because they want to be like or surpass Hermes? This just makes me sick. Hermes may not be an angel, but at least the quality is there. Not just Chanel, but shame on all these luxury brands that are making a vicious habit of delivering subpar products (quality wise) while raising the prices. It's ridiculous 😒

The quality dwindles bc they are mass producing and might be just that issue they want to stop. Besides, they might feel that for the masses low quality my be suffice but for the very wealthy costumer it won’t. They don’t want to loose the prestige. They can ditch the low quality artisans working for the brand, lower fixed costs and the hassles associated to bigger productions of handbags and sell fewer but keeping the profits.

I would not even bother getting worked up over anything that has a big prize and low quality. I'd simply not buy it and move on. Same thing goes for all the stress customers are expected to endure just to get the almighty hermes bag. Pas pour moi. Merci!

Chanel is more contemporary and relatable than Hermes. We are in a different age where nobility that attend equestrian events isn’t really a thing. Women have ascended to executive positions, and more modern brands that represent this ascension will obviously gain more public acclaim and recognition. As Shakira beautifully said: « Women don’t cry anymore, women cash in » (exactly like Coco Chanel did not so long ago).

I still like the Chanel vintage bags and I think this is a good way to go if you love Chanel bags in general. The quality of the Vintage bags is so much better than the new ones and they are much more affordable.

To put this into perspective: Adjusting for inflation, the price difference between the original 2007 iPhone and the 2023 iPhone 15 is only $60. You are most definitely getting a better product than you did sixteen years ago for not much of a price increase. What quality improvements are you getting for Chanel's $1600 price increase? Better material? Higher salaries to employees putting the bags together? None, nope, and nope.

I have a classic double flap in black lambskin from 1998. Thank goodness because the probability of my purchasing ANYTHING from CHANEL ever again is highly unlikely. These price increases are GREED for a $200 to manufacture handbag. The whole situation is obscene and outrageous!
