CHANEL

Күн бұрын

In December 1953, Coco Chanel began her incredible return to center stage. The designer reopens her Haute Couture house after fifteen years of absence. The collection is welcomed by the French press with an icy silence. Only the American media supports the looks that define the rebirth of Chanel's style. "The Return" retraces this determining period, that shaped the legend of the designer of rue Cambon forever.
"The Return," imagined, written and directed by Karl Lagerfeld, features Geraldine Chaplin in the role of Gabrielle Chanel, Rupert Everett, Anna Mouglalis, Lady Amanda Harlech, Arielle Dombasle, Kati Nescher, Vincent Darré and Sam McKnight.

I love Chanel. Not just their clothing and stuff, but their KZbin Chanel! They make commercials, and even short films with such creativity, quality, and class. And what's amazing is that it is really entertaining and they just don't hire any celeb, especially messy ones. you know? You won't see Kim Kardashian modeling for these folks. The people in the commercials and campaigns generally don't have an ugly image and have a good mark and taste in fashion. Chanel has a standard and that's one of the reason why I respect them so much.

I definitely don't live to find that person either, I gave up on romance long ago. I live for my family, my mother, sister and my nephew, n I live for the hope of one day having my own child and living for them. Everything else is just trivial and temporary.

Love her timeless style. When my daughter was 2 years old & found a cute dress for her at a thrift shop & told her it was a "Coco Channel dress"😉. She would repeat that mantra every time she wore it. It had that 'Coco' style. Also we named the cat 'Coco' after her.

I saw this short film and ended fascinated with the little piece of Coco's story. After that, I started to look at the comments and find out that most of the people are complaining about the accent, the scenario and other things. I think the film wasn't about all those things. It was something deeper. It was inside Coco, inside that creative woman who didn't listen, who didn't follow the crowd. For what I understood Coco was a lonely woman, who wasn't loved as she wished...oh lord. I could keep writing good and bad things about Coco but, you know live is too short and my dreams are too big. Rest in peace mademoiselle Coco Chanel

I just stumbled on this channel and i most say i am in Awe.. Madmoselle Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was a woman of great wisdom, elegance and style. watching these short films by Karl Lagerfeld is a gift to what her life was like. But the loneliness she felt..made me so sad. I wish she could feel the unending love we all have for her, because it seems she didn't feel it as much as she would like then. Geraldine Chaplin you gave this film so much life and color...Coco Chanel would have been proud.

That’s maybe true for her. It’s not easy to love, not for everyone. This Chanel woman is nuts. Obviously the jean market made more money she every could dream of with her crappy overpriced clothes. Only rich corrupt pretentious ppl wear her clothes, and idiots who can’t afford it but will go into debt for a label, 99% of ppl wear what makes them feel beautiful. I would never pay $5000 for one of her ugly jackets. And I can afford it. And oh my goodness her beyond ugly purses. And the only Chanel perfume that’s even worth buying is the exclusiv line of perfumes, which she had nothing to do with. That No 5 perfume is horrible . Smells like 100 yr old lady. The aldehydes are horrible. Maybe they tried to make it smell like Chanel as she would smell today. Decomposed....lol Truth.

No juzguen tan severamente a Karl.

In the late 60's (68) I wore my hair like Chanel. also, with my first real job I purchased my first bottle of Chanel perfume. I only used that perfume on special outings.

Brilliant, this was quite enjoyable, the film was like a visual poem. Some of us loved it and felt every moment presented and the entirety of this short film, and some quite clearly did not, pretty much like everything else in the world. Be that as it may, I found it riveting and interesting to watch throughout, liked the pacing and the tension ( yes tension) in many of the scenes, especially the ending.

It was very beautiful to look at but looks are not everything. You need substance, style and a direction in a short film such as this. The Return meandered and floundered while searching for it's center. First off the film lacked a sense of place, of the city of Paris. it's lack of elan could have played out anywhere. Second, the film had no tension or real feeling. Geraldine Chaplin did her best to create from very little a real portrait of Chanel and for that she is to be commended. However the lack of a script in this project was the death blow to any real feeling or emotion it might have evoked. Third, the most essential thing to making any film is a good script. it is the foundation, like a dress pattern. This was a Chanel suit made without a pattern, the fabric was thrown on a dress form, barely draped or pinned, and sewn in the dark. The direction was non existent which left the film to be barely watchable and embarrassing.

Totally agree with you. I find it odd she was speaking with English accent when she was French. She was fluent in English due to her frequent trips to the UK but this short movie does not cut it at all

In comparison to Lagerfeld's usual work, this did have substance and direction. I'll admit that direction could have been greatly improved, but I would disagree that there was no strong emotion evoked in this film. I did feel for this troubled and lonely Coco Chanel who received more attention and flattery in her early years than one could handle in a lifetime, and yet there she was sitting all by herself. I also find it quite refreshing that Paris is not put into the spotlight. This isn't about Paris, this is about Chanel and her personal style. Let us give credit where credit is due. Although unconventional, this is still a fashion film. I appreciated the fashionable details incorporated into these scenes - the emphasis on style over fashion (her pearls were fake?), the poem reader's old-timey androgynous voice (the fashion world is obsessed with androgyny), even the harsh critics at the show, something that designers today expose themselves to every season. I sense that Lagerfeld is communicating the reasons behind his snobbery through Coco. When it comes down to it, the film/advertisement is effective in sending its message that elegance is timeless, and timeless is Chanel.

How eloquently put! I feel karl Lagerfeld's attemts at movie productions are futile. This is the second one I've watched, and it is another empty peanut shell.

Katya Aksenuk Agreed and I'm glad to see these few comments, honest critiques, rather than fawning praise for KL. He's a talented man who has earned his place at the top of the heap of high fashion, but as a film director, and even as a photographer, he is mediocre at best. The woman playing Bettina Ballard is dreadful, as is the man playing Chanel's butler. The performance of 'Marie Helene' is embarrassingly amateurish. And the scene with Rupert Everett, which apparently is supposed to be the film's linchpin, flounders thanks to the meandering dialogue. Chanel is right to give KL free reign with the collections, but it is a mistake to indulge his delusion to be an auteur.

Raymond Louis Llompart Chanel is a fashion icon because she invented modern fashion of the 20th century and 21st century ( we are still wearing her inventions - fake jewelry, jacket and skirt combo, stretch fabrics, pants for women, no corsets, designer perfume, non floral fragrances, red lipstick, women in men's clothes etc This film is not about her personal life and her conduct in WW2 which remains controversial because it is not clear exactly what happened between her and the Naziz officer she knew, Madame Gres is "forgotten" by the public ( but not by fashion students, historians, fashionistas ) because she didn't leave a business after her death and she is celebrated as technician ( her draping techniques are what Donna Karan dreams of ) but she didn't invent or revolutionize fashion, in fact she owns everything to Chanel as do all fashion designers, Chanel was the mother of all modern fashion, Dior, YSL, Armani etc would not be here without her legacy. It's about fashion not politics, that's another issue. I respect Chanel as a fashion icon, but nobody is praising her personal life/values ,certainly not KL or the Chanel company and they never have, in fact they have never hid her past Nazi connections and many people who know Chanel know about it too, its not a secret.

I am really pleased to have stumbled upon these Chanel channel. I did not know much at all about this style icon and im pleasantly surprised to have found a new role model of sorts. I admire her authenitcity and strength. SHe is able to stand her ground without coming off as rude or overemotional. I only hope to one day have this kind of grace.
