Hey everyone! Here's a video on how you can change out your fuel filter for your Toyota 100 series Land Cruiser or Lexus LX470. Although there isn't any service intervals for changing the fuel filter, it's my opinion that this filter should be changed at least every 100K miles. It's inexpensive and easy to do. If you follow these steps and you should be able to replace this filter in at least 15 minutes.
You can find the filter I purchased by clicking here: amzn.to/3sW4koA

This fuel filter replacement fixed my slow start condition and gave my 2001 LX470 238k motor back its power! BTW, i wasn't throwing any codes. I suspect mine might have been original. Thanks for the walk through dude!

When you say slow starts you mean the engine just turning over and over until finally starting? How slow are we talking? Cheers

Open the gas cap usually helps with the pressurization of the system. I say USUALLY because it doesn't always. Also, Joey from Wits' End sells the OEM kit for about $40 with the new green clip.

Thanks for watching… $40 is a good price for filter and a clip. I definitely would’ve purchased it from Joey.

You can remove the Fuel relay from fuse box, run the engine for a second until it dies to relieve the pressure.

From "Toyota Maintenance Schedule, Feb2008" doc: 1FZ/2UZ gasoline engine - Replace fuel filter (including the filter in the fuel tank) every 96 months. 1HD/1HZ diesel engine - every 10000km/20000km/24months (whichever comes first), depending on the filter type. Another interesting note from the doc: Every 10000km use Toyota genuine fuel injector cleaner (P/N 08813-00820) or equivalent.

Makes me appreciate my old VW TDI fuel filter. It’s placed right on the fender and takes just a min or two to swap out. I never cut it apart tho. 😆 I did have to cut off the cap of my 7.3 Powerstroke Excursion fuel filter because the nut rounded off. That made me nervous to do that, while still attached in the engine bay.

@LXPlore 3 жыл бұрын
I have a 2002 F350 with a 7.3 and I’m alway scared that I’m gonna round off the plastic when removing the filter. Knock on wood it hasn’t happened. Sad thing is that diesel filter gets changed out pretty often. 😬

@@MissouriAdventures prices are insane. I thought about doing the same, but I wouldn’t be able to replace it. I figured it has only 137k miles and it paid for. Once you sell your Excursion, are you going to buy another vehicle?

@@LXPlore No, we bought the LX to replace the Ex. Just haven’t been in a hurry to sell it and now that has worked out to my advantage. Wife has a CX5 to run around in. I’ll probably take that money and buy a newer wakeboard boat than our current 1986 Supra.

The nut on the fuel line going into the filter on mine is completely stuck :( was going to change my filter out today but couldn’t get it off and the nut was beginning to deform from all the torque. Trying penetrating oil now and hoping that does the trick

I've found the plastic part is "pinch-type connector". I guess I'll try to get in there with flat nails type of things and push it together that way. For those about to change, maybe get a new connector...
