@@thecreativeitalian7611 yeah, I started a KZbin about two months ago. I do diy knife making and video editing tutorials. I love all things art and creative! I was researching solder because in the knife making world you have all these cool things like Damascus and timascus titanium Damascus...but they are ridiculously expensive. I thought it might be possible to make bolsters or handles and parts with solder that might be a cool look even if not the same and coloring it would help achieve that. If you have any thoughts(having more experience than me) I would love to hear.. or even if you have an idea of anything that would be a cool handle material or something that isn’t ridiculously expensive but might be new or different let me know. The jewelry and knife making world are kinda similar believe it or not lol. Thank you 🙏🏻 for the response..happy Mother’s Day, if you are a mom. God bless

@@bumstudios8817 I like your idea Chris. Your right, the knife and jewelry making world are kind of similar.. If you do a Patina for a knife handle, you might want to do a some kind of durable clear coating to protect it, as it would be handled all the time. I would not know what that would be? I think your idea is great! What's your You Tube channel? So I can take a peek? I am a Mom to my fur baby! Thanks for the Mom wishes!

I don’t know, as I have not done it on steel. If you do it on steel, will you let us know how it worked out?😊

I used solder that looks like lead, and it really holds in my stone well (moldavite) but it doesn't have that polished appearance. So I'm thinking - it would be a good idea to paint it, but I love the solder you use in the video. I'll probably need to watch your other videos to get the right materials. I had my idea in my head before I researched the "how". I think ultimately I want to learn how to use silver to bind in the stones I find. Is this possible? I am just not sure how it would work.

Jason, I did reply three weeks ago to your comment, but now I don't see it. I have used clear nail polish for a polished appearance. Aslo silver solder is available on the internet. You might want to look at Rio Grande, they have it. So sorry my response never showed up? I always respond in less than 24 hours. Thank you for your thoughts and hope things work out for your project

Do you seal it with anything afterwards?

If I do, it’s a clear coat of acrylic paint (it’s in a 2oz bottle)that I get at Hobby Lobby in their paint section. It has performed very good 👍

How well does it hold? Does it rub off or change color?

I have not had the experience of it rubbing off or changing color so far. However, I started using a glaze over that for extra protection a year ago. Hope I make sense 😊

What kind of solder was used because I have heard the copper patina does not work on Lead-Free solder?
@peace328

Hello and thank you for your question 😊 I have used the Copper patina on both lead and lead free and it worked. On the Black patina, it says for lead solder on the bottle. Let me know how it works out for you.😊🌷🌿

Just to let you know that I tried the copper patina using lead-free solder & got terrible results. I tried 3 times so far & each time was a fail! I have read that this patina is made to use on lead solder but I’ve seen a couple people use it on what they claim is lead-free solder but I didn’t ask the brand of solder. Can you double check which solder you used so I can try it with that specific brand since it worked so well for you? Maybe it’s a 4% silver or some specific lead-free solder. I’m currently using Sterling brand by Harris which contains tin,copper & selenium. Maybe that composition isn’t good with this patina. Thx in advance

@@karensintuitivejewelry Thanks for you question. Yes, it does say for lead solder. What I used then, is not the brand I am using now😱for the life of me, I do not remember what that was. I am now using the Hobby Lobby brand, but have not done copper Patina on it. I can try it and see if it works and let you know? It could very well be the solder mixture you have. There are so many different ones out there

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate any info. How do you like the Hobby Lobby brand? I like a nice bright shine. I recently tried the black patina & wasn’t thrilled with that either. It seemed to dull the whole piece even after buffing & polishing several times! I’m just using alcohol inks/paint now on deep impressions for a more vibrant contrast & then of course seal it!

Noel, you are absolutely right, more so for the black Patina due to the ingredients in that. I do not see anything on the bottle about the Copper patina? I used black one two times,thank goodness. But yes, wearing gloves is so important and thank you for commenting on that.
