I've done a lot of oil changes over the years, but never one on a motorcycle. There were a couple things I wasn't sure enough about to run out and tackle this on my own, but you covered them here...well...you covered everything here...front to back. Just know that you were appreciated by someone here in central Indiana today Dennis!! Thanks man!

Fantastic! One item to note that a kind viewer pointed out to me.....in my video, I say to screw the dipstick all the way in to check the oil. The manual actually says to just push it in until it seats, but do not screw it in to check the oil. I don't think it will make anything more than a minor difference in the oil level, but it is worth noting that I got it wrong in the video. Thanks for watching! I'm sure you'll do a great job!

when checking your oil.... warm your engine for a few minutes, the wait another 3-5 minutes after turning off the engine, always have the bike straight/vertical. remove the dipstick, clean it, put the dipstick back into the reservoir BUT DO NOT SCREW IT IN, re-check the oil level.

I have a 2002 Shadow Ace 750 VT750CDD, my manual says NOT to screw the dipstick in to check the oil level, just get the bike vertical then put in the dipstick and check the level. Maybe you have a different model. Great video, thanks.
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 6 жыл бұрын
You are correct! And thanks for pointing that out. I've always screwed it in fully to get a reading, but apparently that isn't necessary. It looks like it will only create a very slight difference (looking at my dipstick), but, for the sake of accuracy, it should only be put in far enough to seat, but not screwed in completely. Thank you for watching and thanks for the comment!

@dwcoffey

Thanks for watching, Seamus! According to Honda, as long as your motor oil does not have "Energy Conserving" in the compliance stamp, it is ok to use with a wet clutch. That's all I use and have never had a problem.

@ 5:03 there is a black hose or bar i can't tell what it is on your bike but on mine, there is a hose there adjacent to the nut you unscrew to change the oil ... you have to use a wrench as opposed to a socket wrench to unscrew this or you will hit this hose and it will be in the way (at least on my bike) what is this hose or line called? mine appears to be split at the joint right about where the nut is that you unscrew to change the oil ... just bought the bike and was about to do my first oil change and I noticed it appears to have a split there but I can't be sure unless I really propped up the bike high enough to see under there. can you tell me what this line or hose is.

One quick question.....All the information and manuals I've read say when checking the oil level to NOT screw the dipstick back in. Just insert it until the threads hit and then read the oil mark.........

Pls can you tell me how to get to the LOW OIL SENSOR CUT OFF SWITCH for my 02 Honda shadow ACE 750? I chAnged the oil last night and may have put lower than recommended by accident. Man, I don't know how you made that look so easy. Mine is kicking my butt. I have zero room/clearance to turn my wrench. And if I try to use the jack (which is the same one you use in your video on how to change the tire) it completely blocks access to plug and filter.

Thanks for watching, Max! I don't know if you've been able to get the filter off since commenting, but if not, I'd try one of those filter wrenches that have some teeth to grab the filter with and with the longest handles you can manage...they will give you more leverage on the filter. Make sure you are turning it counterclockwise as you look at the canister-end of the filter.
