Looking back over the series, something I think it's amazing to realize - all this actually happened because of Pearl and her imagination. Rose was initially HER idea, not Pink Diamond's, and she's the one who imagined a future where she and Rose could be free of their roles and just exist together outside of the strict structure of Homeworld's empire. The entire arc of the show actually occured because an enslaved person was able to dream.

I love the themes of white diamond. Sugar designed her around a vintage animated film aimed at adolencent girls telling them they need to be a certain way to be appealing and look perfect to the world. Shes based on narcissistic parents who control everything around them to suit an idea or image of perfection. Think of Mother Gothel from Tangled. A lot of people just see "evil dictator" which yeah it does fit those vibes, but when watching the show all I could see was my own mother. I would cry and my mom would yell at me calling me pathetic. Had physical expectations of me. And just like Pink I left my home and never looked back. If my mother could have ever reflected like white did with steven, I would have gone back and had a relationship. But my mom refused until the very end. I feel kids need to see these relationships and know that they can be themselves and stand up for those beliefs but also encourage healing and hopefully having family understand change.

One nice detail, our Pearl was originally supposed to be White's pearl because their gem placements are same. Pink got our pearl cuz White took her original pearl and even Steven saw this in that fever dream when Blue said "White's gonna take your pearl"

One of the things that caused the discourse on SU to sour was Lily Orchard's video "Steven Universe is Garbage and Here's Why" It's a long, terrible video made by someone with the media analysis skills of a barnacle or some other bottomfeeder - her tone is super aggressive, she makes ridiculous accusations (including calling Rebecca Sugar (who is Jewish) a facist sympathizer), and she deletes any dissenting comments, so the comment section is just an echochamber. This led passersby unfamiliar with SU to believe she's being accurate and intellectually honest (and these two things should never be used to describe Lily) It led to a lot of internet flame wars and dragged the show's reputation through the mud. There have been multiple great response videos that break down just how poorly she understands a show designed for children. There are also a lot of other controversial and messed up things in Lily's internet history, which other KZbinrs have covered as well

There have been other things that happened in the fandom as well, like ship-war nonsense and super weird and agressive online bullying of both the creative team and fan artists. Part of the issue is how very young the fandom skewed while the show was airing. This isn't intended to hate on teenagers, who are still learning how to behave in the world, but whenever a significant chunk of a fandom is still in high school, the fandom kind of turns into high-school-but-with-no-consequences-for-being-awful-to-people.

As others have said, don't feel bad about showing emotion. Being open, or getting attached to the setting or characters. There's nothing wrong with that. But also, reaction channels are _great_ resources for creators. It takes a special story to make an audience cry, and for those who can't create that on their own, they can atleast see the story beats that pushed you that far.

Huh. I don’t think we’ve ever seen into a room between the usual exit to the bubble-room and the magic door, but! In the episode Catch And Release, Peridot’s journey through that stretch of space wasn’t instant. There is something there, at the very least a short hallway, but it would make tons of sense for Garnet to have an actual room there. I hadn’t thought of that before, thank you.

when i found you guys channel. i caught up so quick i’m glad you guys gave this amazing reaction, i never got react emotionally like that when i watched the episode the night it was released I WANTED TO CRY SO BAD UGH but the tears didn’t roll in. But there so many parallels from this episode and other episodes. From Steven not being able to land on his own two feet with the crystal gems to him being able to lead and land on his own. From the unreleased pilot where garnet says he’s acting like a child, and he responded with I am a child what’s your excuse? omg your talk in the beginning just had me realise how incredibly much EASIER everything would have been if they'd just taken lars with them. u know: bring everybody (smaller, through shapeshifting) through Lions mane into Lars' ship, bring the offcolors minus Lars to Earth through Lars' head (to have them be safe from white diamond since they all together might have been a bit tooo much for homeworld to bear), fly with lars' ship to homeworld and have lars be with Stephen all the time. they allowed connie, and yeah i know, lars is like a wanted space Pirat but w/e, garnet was wanted, ALL of stephens crew are basically rebels and off-color of some sort, so i'm sure they'd have allowed lars. then: - when Steven & Connie were locked in Pinks room, they could've left through lars' head, to get food and back-up AND the back-up could've brought everything they need with them, too. - plus in lars' head the gems would've had a safer space to reform - plus lars is undead anyways AND human, so possibly invincible to gem attacks...! like... why didn't connie think of this idea? or garnet or pearl? ^^' they're all quite strategic thinkers. one of them should've had this idea. ^^'
