Rose being Pink Diamond explains a lot of weird stuff with Steven. The most obvious is it explains the weird memories he has that are all from Pink's POV. But also, the healing ability, the ability to shield the Crystal Gems from the Diamonds' corrupting blast, dream walking, all of that? Is leaps and bounds beyond what any other gem has been shown to be able to do. Me when I saw this the first time: OMFG IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

About how Yellow Diamond acted in the trial: Imagine you have a little sister, and she's a bit annoying, and kind of a brat, sure, but you still love her dearly (Yellow makes it clear she misses Pink just as much as Blue in "What's The Use of Feeling Blue?"). Then, one day, she gets murdered. You do your best to put everything behind you, to move forward, but you can't run away from your grief and your desire for revenge/justice (again, seen in What's The Use of Feeling Blue). Then one day, finally, they catch her murderer, and you go to the trial hoping to finally see them get their just desserts, so that you can finally let it all go. Only for her murderer's lawyer to suddenly accuse you of being the actual killer. Wouldn't that make you pissed?

Yeah, Rose Quartz = Pink Diamond is still one of the best reveals of any television show I've watched. And when you go back and look at past episodes, that information helps to make sense of a lot of things. And that's because they had always planned for Rose to be PD. There's an infamous bit of trivia where a year before this episode aired, we saw surasshu (of aivi and surasshu, the composers for the show) in a video wearing a shirt that had all of the Crystal Gems' gems on it. Steven/Rose's gem is shown from the side a bit and we can see that it has a point at one end and that the part of the gem we see on Steven's belly is only the top of it. Later, one of the storyboarders for the show, Joe Johnston, revealed that the shirt was actually a SU crew shirt from freaking 2013, which is the year SU started airing. This show was so thought through and so well planned from the very beginning. And it's even crazier to think about how they planned all of that without ever knowing if they'd get to tell the whole story. A twist that would take 5 seasons to get to is something that basically no other cartoon is going to think about when they're still writing Season 1. And yet that's exactly what Rebecca Sugar did. It's one of the things that makes SU so unique and such a joy to watch and rewatch.

Bonus, this is also why Pearl is so against transforming, and she never has! All because turning into "Rose Quartz" and shattering Pink Diamond was so traumatizing! Crazy details! And poor Pearl having serious trauma

love the secret details in this show. real life pearls have layers to protect themselves and they look slightly more disintegrated the further inside you see of them. SU manifests into psychological disintegration of pearl as steven goes deeper into her layers

During the original run of the show, the fandom collectively theorized that Rose was Pink Diamond, shot that theory down, and by the time this aired, the general consensus was that the theory was just silly fanfiction and of COURSE they wouldn't go that route. So even people who had been through the thought process of this being a possibility had their minds absolutely blown.

Mostly because at the time, the term diamond was believed to be a title, like a commander or General, not like an actual Diamond. This was still back when the show was in its early seasons, so there were still some mysteries to be answered and a LOT of head cannons.

A quick note but there actually is no warp pad currently on the moon base. We've seen this in the past too. In "It Could Have Been Great", they needed Lion to take them to the moon base via his portals. And in "Back to the Moon", they had to use the Ruby ship to get there. So it's actually been consistently the case that they can't just warp to the moon.

So I guess “Rainbow Quartz” was actually “Rainbow Diamond”. Also explains why Smokey Quartz was so strong too! One mind-fxck of foreshadowing regarding this back from Season 1; in one of the flashbacks of Greg and “Rose” dancing, when Greg wanted to fuse with her, he had an outburst where he yelled, “Can you just talk to me like a REAL person?!” To which “Rose” replied, “I’m…not…a real person…?” Evidence that Pink was genuinely shaken up by Greg’s assertiveness, wondering if he saw through her guise right there! That also means Greg has that Diamond rizz lol. He won over Pink Diamond, and Blue took somewhat of a liking to him to abduct him for the human zoo, when she feared he’d meet his fate with the Cluster’s delayed emergence. And THEN you realize why Pearl was always so protective of Rose, because that was her Diamond. That’s why she ordered Connie to protect Steven at all costs like a soldier for royalty. That’s why in 3 Gems & a Baby, she had the most difficult time accepting Steven and tried to take out his gem. Why she was near to tears when Steven brought the book with the Palanquin in it and yelled at her for answers. AND, it’s why right before Pearl & Peridot had their robot building contest, when Peridot dismissed Pearl and started objectifying her, she said Pearl was “a fancy one.” A Pearl is programmed to be duty-bound to whomever they serve, and for one of the Pearls who served one of the Diamond matriarchs having to make peace with losing that figure…it’s just so f’d up for Pearl.

I just had a really morbid thought. So we see Pearl in her usual getup that we see in flashbacks when she find out that Rose is planning to give her life for a baby, or she's already started the pregnancy. And when we see the flashback with Greg taking care of baby Steven, Pearl is in her outfit from season 1. So if Pearl's outfit changed in between those times, what if she couldn't cope with the loss of Rose that she... purposefully poofed herself either during Rose's pregnancy or after the birth of Steven.

'Ranking of Kings' is an anime I think both of you would love. I think the 2nd season came out recently but I haven't gotten to it yet lol The first season has such an incredible story and the characters are superb and the writing is honestly life changing. Like Ive been designing a future tattoo of one of the main characters type of appreciation. It's like a mix of Game of Thrones, Adventure Time, & Steven Universe.
