My favourite coins are the 1925 sixpence,1 shilling & the halfcrown.When my mum passed away 5 years ago found them in a drawer, all in an old brown paper bag.A birth day gift to her from my grandmother.I will cherish those coins forever.x.The year she was born.

All the years I've been coin collecting and this is the first time I've even bothered to hear any information and mintages about the old £2 coins.

Do you have any of the old £2 coins?

Very interesting 📹, I have seen some of these coins for sale and on change checker but didn't know that they had actually been in circulation. I do prefer the Bi metallic £2 coins if I'm honest though.
@ChangeChecker5 жыл бұрын
They were mainly struck for collectors, but could be found in circulation from 1986 to 1996. Very interesting coins to own. Which is your favourite bi-metallic £2 Suzanne?

These coins are still legal tender. Rare to find but if found a couple of them over the years. Feel privileged to find one.

I thought they were all still legal tender as I think they weren't actually withdrawn according to the change checker guide.?

I just came across the thistle one and the claim of rights in an old bag of coins I had stashed away in my drawers for years. Can't remember where I got them from but I'm over the moon I have them :)

I have some of these because my mum kept some when she was a child 💖

That's great Alice and well done Alice's mum for keeping hold of them. I think it's really special to be able to own these coins and preserve the history of the UK's very first £2 coins.

Fantastic, that's a really great collection you've got there! Congrats on finding the Claim of Right too :) It's a shame you missed us at Manchester. We try to get to different places each time we do an event, but hopefully we'll see you at one soon!

I found a Charles Darwin £2 and the writing on the side is upside down (on the origin of species 1859) does that make it an error and is it worth anything? And the dots around the outer part of the queens face are badly off centred
@ChangeChecker5 жыл бұрын
Hi, we actually put a blog together about some of the mis strikes found on coins and both the disappearing dots and upside down edge lettering are explained. You can find out all about these mis strikes here: www.changechecker.org/2016/06/24/mis-strikes-and-myths/
