I have a 2015 F150 2.7 liter. I found a few videos on how to change out this sensor. I got the drivers' side of the engine stripped of all turbo lines, etc. Problem was, on a 4X4 truck, the sensor is on the passenger side of the engine. Live and learn. It only took me an hour to replace the sensor, and another 2 hours to get all the left side of the engine put back together. This is a good video, and you are the only person who put out one of these who clarified you have a 2 wheel drive truck.

yeah, because if you have a 4 x 4 truck in this model, the alternator has to come off if I'm not mistaken because I don't see a snip of that damn plug because of that transfer case or whatever that thing is called for the four-wheel-drive or the steering assembly or something

I have a 2014 f-150 5.0 4wd and for all the people saying you can’t change the oil sending unit with a 4wd is full of it. I put my truck on ramps and laid on a creeper. I reached through the front clip under the alternator. I changed mine and it took about 45 mins. I used 2 extensions with a 13/16 on a knuckle socket and it went smoothly.

Good video. I found a deep socket works perfectly also. My clip was facing away so I had to do it blind but using a small screwdriver and depressing straight down on it worked great. This my second time to replace this part on my 2014 so there may be something to the theory about non-oem oil filters being an issue. I typically using a 15k-20k mile Fram filter. Be sure you clean the connector on the wire and on the new sensor. Once the old unit goes bad it will allow oil to pass through. This contaminates the connection. Be sure to use an electrical cleaner and not something like wd40. Hope this helps.

I read somewhere that an aftermarket oil filter may cause it too. Apparently it has something to do with back pressure. A Motorcraft may have tighter baffles? Now a days, who knows. Anything is possible. All I know is it's intermittent, and I have changed the pressure switch. Fresh oil, syn 5-20, fram filter. Not the pump, because if it was it would be consistent, I would think anyway. The old sensor was all oily, so it was definitely bad. I will give it a few more days to sort itself out.

Just went through this. Make sure you clean out the terminal really well and spray something in there like DeOxit. If your oil pressure is around 25 psi when hot, then it has to be the switch and/or the terminal connection. Was able to do everything by simply removing the air box and antifreeze reservoir. If you take off the positive cable off the alternator (after taking the neg side off the battery) if gives you enough room to get a master gauge in there to check your hot oil pressure and to replace and clean the new parts.

How did you get to this without removal of alternator ?
@kshellrazor4 жыл бұрын
That gauge is a pure dummy gauge. - That dummy gauge is basically on or off - could just be a light. - so if your idle is running rough, and it fluctuates to a psi that the computer says 'fail', the gauge drops to 0 and says 'low oil pressure' - so instead of getting 7psi at idle, you might be getting 6 - which is going to trigger the gauge and drop to 0. A lot of people think it is the oil sending unit, when in fact a high mileage motor it may be the viscosity, a fuel pump going bad, a bad MAF , etc.....lots of things on newer vehicles that can have you chasing your tail.
@BikePsyco2 жыл бұрын
I usually agree that people blame the sending unit when there's probably another oil issue, but it seems like on these it typically is the sending unit. Mine has started to become intermittent, goes on at random times only once in a while. Illogical times, crusing at 2k RPM 5 minutes after I started driving (oil still somewhat cool). I pull a 3 ton camper in the summer and it never comes on at idle after driving an hour when the oil would be as hot as it'd get. If that light comes on only at idle after driving it a while, sounds like the sensor is working correctly, and you do in fact have an oil pressure issue.
@mysiblingsareonmyaccount Жыл бұрын
Actually it’s not. Most 2014 ford f150 4x4 5.0 trucks do this and when oil is coming from it , it will cause the pressure to falsify oil pressure. After you change it , it goes away. So who’s the dummy

Would that sensor make the truck to turn off while driving
@buddywommack96713 жыл бұрын
Diego, it shouldn't. It simply sends a voltage to the oil gauge. The only issue is not being able to see oil pressure. However, on some vehicles, there could be a computer input that could equate no oil pressure as a shut down. I know that is not the case on my 2014.
