It is pretty amazing how much better it is than so many of the DS plugs out there that cost quite a bit. Even if you only used ChannEV for the DSer, it's hard to beat as a freebie.

Right? I agree. I think there's still a weird bias against "free" plug ins that is starting to change as people start talking about the gems like Analog Obsession out there. AO is definitely going to help me save $$ in the future.

@@z6nestudio Just take a look at the Ozone 11 free parametric EQ. It's a resource hog but really smooth for tackling my deep, muddy voice. I mean, like 90% mud. :-D

A word on the mic pre input level. Analog Obsession is notorious for auto gain matching, so while it doesn't appear to do anything, it actually does. It's the same effect as driving the input stage of a mic pre without having to ping pong back and forth between input and output for gain matching. This is widely regarded as one of best features of his plugs. The output on the right will increase output if that something you need/want, but you shouldn't have to tweak output when increasing input to keep unity gain.

Very cool! Thank you. I appreciate the extra info.

exactly.. I think more developers should do this..

The three saturation knobs are all gain compensated. It's a god send for engineers like myself. Constantly having to twiddle two knobs at the same time, which is what the analog world gets you, is a rather bad feature when you operate plugins with a mouse. I wish all saturators did it this way, and thankfully, many do so now.
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
A-ha! That makes sense! And yeah, I can see how that is definitely a big workflow improvement over analog in that regard as well. Thank you for the input!
@ThePersistentRumor19 күн бұрын
AO's Fet compressor is really solid, in my opinion. Also free.

I've got to say, I agree. It's insane how much of their free stuff is actually great. Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.
@narrator-timothymckeanАй бұрын
I think the gain knob is meant to model the distortion you get from driving the gain on the original hardware. But I agree with you and usually leave it at the lowest setting.
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
You're probably right. I just wish it did more in that regard, but I'm guessing now that the lack of clear influence of that gain knob is why ChannEV is not featured on the main Analog Obsessions website yet.
@narrator-timothymckeanАй бұрын
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff It's just how he does it. All of his plugins have automatic gain compensation. Some mixers love it. Just allows you to use that knob as a saturation control. It used to be on the main site. Last I looked it just part of the Brit Bundle. You can also the Brit-Pre that's just the preamp and filter section of the channel. His stuff is consistently good.

CHANNEV is one I"ve been aware of for a while. I"ve recommended it to many people. If only because the de-esser and comp limiter combo are really useful for voice. Doesn't sound like a neve really, but it does sound very niceeeee

Hey Rumin! Totally! Yeah, the comp and DS are really very effective for VO. It's a great little plug to have in any collection.

Those knobs work bro.. They add harmonics without the volume.. Basically auto-gain, so you just hear the effect. Try the trim screw too..

@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff COMPER for sure, it's a dual mode, compressor with 2 stages. And does VLA, OPTO, and FET, all of it is even blendable, it's pretty awesome.
@MarkVOАй бұрын
Great plugin. Very useful EQ bands and compressor/limiter. The tape saturation is just way too much though, it was overbearing even when you had it at 0.4... maybe if you can manage to set it to 0.1 it'd be better
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
Yeah, this is one case where I probably wouldn't touch the saturation here at all, but maybe there's a better way to tame it that my all-too-brief demo here doesn't cover.

This is the one plugin by analog obsessions that I've always really liked cuz it's got everything on it I mean this got everything lol, there was one part on it that I don't like I don't remember if it was the compressor or the limiter but there was something on it that I didn't care for but the rest of it was awesome
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
Could be the limiter. Seems like I didn't really get it dialed in as easily as I thought it should within the short time I spent on that section.

Off topic question, since, yeah, AO stuff is pretty rad and can’t beat the price. Can you do a video in your normal speaking voice? I have friends in the VO business that it blows my mind when i hear something theyve done on radio or TV because speaking with them one on one is like a totally different person. One such friend has a hard time turning it off and gets ribbed a lot for it. Hes a radio guy and its funny yet at the same time annoying when ordering at a restaurant and its like we’re getting the latest sports scores but hes ordering a salad. I have a feeling your regular voice probably isnt too far from what youre doing. Would just love to hear a few sentences without the VO inflections. Lol. Have a great weekend ya legend!!

LOLOL! That is my regular voice. I’m just talking here normally, not even doing VO. I’m in my regular voice a great majority of the time on this channel.

AO always uses unity gain controls. When you turn up the game it turns down the volume proportionally. It's weird that they trim doesn't do anything though
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
It just occurred to me that the wonky gain control could be why ChannEV has not yet been featured on the new Analog Obsession website. I know the guy was updating a boatload of plug ins he'd made before and perhaps this is still one being tweaked.
@jaredhouseman2094Ай бұрын
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I'll have to check out the new website. I love the Tuba pre, I use it on pretty much everything
@steppbrooEFTАй бұрын
that's analog obsession's style of gaining, it keeps the level the same while emulating gaining more/less into the circuit, basically a level matched drive knob, the trim adjusts the headroom of the plugin supposedly, lower the trim is, the less headroom there is. Never liked the sound of that however, so I'm stoked about the tape drive knob cause it's the first drive sound I like in AA plugins.
@steppbrooEFTАй бұрын
sorry it's the opposite way for the trims.
