Hey, quite a few people seem confused about the purple room's puzzle, so a quick explanation: You just gotta tap the paintings in the order that the colours are for the rooms. Example: Purple room is last, so you tap the purple painting last.

I can only recall two character having incredibly loud noises (Ringu during Endless Mode and Monster 2, Ringu makes gasping sounds at the beginning of her chase theme, and Monster 2 has a roar at the beginning of its chase theme), the rest have cues that just fill you with dread because you know they're behind you but you can't look or else you'll be slowed down, and the story telling behind all of the different specimens/monsters is amazing. It's such a treat whenever Nitro Rad drops a new video! I can't wait to dive into what this game is gonna be about.
@realfromtherealreality41482 жыл бұрын
Hi Nitro! If you're ever out of indie games to play here's some recommendation: -Project Moon Games, especially the duology Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina (With Limbus company the third game coming soon) are right up your alley in terms of good stories and risk-taking innovations. Plus the universe is fascinating as well, and there's enough mystery to theorize a lot. -Our Life, beginning and always, is also a very interesting visual novel. The story is very simple: A kid named Cove winds up in your neighborhood and you must interact with him and watch him grow, and woah... This is a VN where your choices actually matter, and the way it was achieved is extremely unique too. Overall a pleasant surprise, especially since the base game is free! -Your Turn to Die, is well-known amongst the Danganronpa fans, YTTD or Kimi ga Shine, is a trip in weirdness and horror. The concept is horrifyingly simple, yet it works so well. Definitely a recommendation for me! -Haven, is a cute and fun action adventure game about travelers from another dimension having to flee their original world and wind up living their love here, while defending themselves. -No Straight Roads, one of the best rhythm game I've ever played. It's corny and memorable as heck and I live for it. -Madness Project Nexus, is the sequel of a beloved flash game from a beloved flash series on Newgrounds. On local it can even be played up to four! Great action game in general. -The Cherry Tree Highs' trilogy, or more like duology with a spin-off bonus turn-based game, are very cute visual novels, that have a very pleasant message about loving yourself. -The Epic Battle Fantasy series, and Kupo707's work in general deserve so much more than I could ever write in here. It's simple. If you're a fan of FF, check it out, you have to! -The Freedom Force Duology, is a must-play if you're a fan of old comic books and real-time strategy games. -Ghost Master, is a unique experience about playing as the monsters in a setting wherre ghosts are real. -The Letter, is a strange horror VN where the most enjoyable parts are actually the characters' drama and lives instead of the horror itself. (Love Esquire by the same chinese devs, is also pretty solid.) -Lethal League Blaze is a very unique and fun fighting game where you have to hit your opponent with a ball and some super-powers, like an extremely confined dodgeball. -Idol Manager is a solid management sim about having an idol agency. Nothing much to add it's really good. -Finally: The Black Survival duology are online-only experiences, where the first game Immortal Souls, is the most unique Battle Royale I've ever seen, and also has a god-tier lore.

A cool thing about this game is that Aggro Crab, the publisher, made a deal with the dev so that 100% of the proceeds went straight into the dev's pockets until the game reached a certain milestone in copies sold. Aggro Crab themselves have their own game, Going Under. It was a Roguelike that satirised "relatable" start up companies. It's a really fun ride but it was sadly overshadowed by the success of Hades, alongside West of Dead, a fellow roguelike that met a similar fate.

These two ghost characters are connected!" Also the order of paintings to click on in the Artist's room is the order of the colors in the rainbow Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and then magenta (even though magenta isn't in the rainbow, as it's our minds creating a bridge between red and violet light that otherwise isn't there)

I suppose the reason you get the bad ending first, regardless of what you do, may be to sort of ground the stakes for why you need to get things right. The bad ending shows what happens if you failed again, so you gotta go in with what you know and, for some reason, already have, and set things right. Going for the neutral version just means you understand what’s at stake and that you have to do your beat to change her fate. The best end, the secret one, may just be for those that are truely intuitive, and want to find all the little secrets. I mean, if you find out, on your own, to play the game at midnight to find the secret, you’re already qualified to get this ending. I can’t really atest to the rest of the games design choices, and this is all i could come up with. Besides, i don’t know the creator’s true intentions, so it’s hard to say why exactly they made these choices. I guess, all in all, if you enjoy the game, that’s all that should matter.

About that loud noise thing you are talking about the closes to it that I can think of is a movie called Perfect Blue that does it where the audio gets louder with buildup everytime things gets intense and I feel it was the perfect way to do audio.
@Selnathorn2 жыл бұрын
10:40 I heard the explanation in a video once. The idea is that a horror game constantly builds up tension in various ways and the more the tension builds the scarier it gets by being always on edge that there might be something happening soon. Now, a jumpscare will scare you because of that tension and that can be quite effective, but the drawback is that said jumpscare is a release for all the tension you built up until that point. This often leads to you not being scared anymore and the game needs to built up the tension again. So usually for a horror game a cheap jumpscare can just ruin the entire atmosphere of the game, cause often the scary factor comes from not knowing if something is going to happen or not.

To me the jumpscares on Colin's game work amazingly well because yes they're technically cheap scares, but there's NOTHING like them in the entire first run (I didn't replay). Were they a recurring mechanic, they'd be horrible. But that late in I was not expecting that treatment, and after the basement scene I was feeling a type of dread that I haven't felt from a game in many, many many years. Your speech on jump scares in this video is why I bounce off of so many horror games, especially Silent Hill 2. They do so much to build up the fear (and maybe I'm just that much of a coward) that it just ends up getting to be annoying and that I'm numb to it in no time, and since you always know when you're safe or in danger, it just feels silly.

The Computer bit is actually what caused me to stop playing when it opens into the final passageway: the parallaxing of the background and graphics, which I found previously cool, were now exceedingly unhelpful in gauging when it was safe to move forward and not die from the lasers. Very Unpopular Opinion but I think the fear of the Jumpscare is an important facet of horror. All the talk of tension and atmosphere are subservient to anticipation of a jumpscare. When its something like Five Nights and the "jumpscare" is expected and static with no variation, I can understand people being unfazed, I think Subway Midnight handles it well in building up anticipation and leaving you in a constant state unease that something is coming. If there's no jump scare all you end up with is this blue balled feeling. Maybe I just don't get horror, all I hear is people complain about Jumpscares but never offer up any solution or explanation of true "scary" so I greatly appreciate this video offering up a alternative to get a better understanding what people find "Horror".

I saw a Simpleflips video on this game before... it intrigued me a lot, I really didn't know what to make of it at the time though. This review nails down what I felt watching it, a game that focuses on a particular experience first, using audio and visuals in really weird, sensory overloady ways to create something awesome that really feels like a nostalgic dream. I agree with you on jumpscares, most jumpscares suck all the fear out of you after a second of tension because that's all there is, something surprising and then nothing else. Silent Hill is scary because there's a bunch of fleshy assholes sticking out of the walls or flying around making weird chainsaw noises, usually without any fanfare so you have no idea what they do if anything, and once you've found out you then have the fear of "I hear it, but where is it" or "Are there more?" or even "Will THIS one do something" if none of them have acted yet.

Yeah, the reason you feel effectively a release of tension when you get a Jumpscare is because they are a form of catharsis. Now, catharsis HAS a place in horror, but jumpscares NEED to call to fight or flight in gameplay, otherwise the catharsis serves only to release pressure, which in MANY cases, is not what you want in horror until you reach a point where things slow down and tension is SUPPOSED to drop. There's a reason jumpscares are infamous, and why they're used so weirdly. In a way they're ironically EASIER on the common audience, doesn't require as much thought, and after a brief scare the more casual crowd can feel a sense of relief off of it. There's a reason they spread for profit, but also usually fall flat for those looking for sustained tension.

I think you are absolutely correct about that first jump scare in the red room. It would’ve made that scene waaay better!
