Ben, the strength of your channel is all the DIY inspiration/perspiration on the fly you do when you make a guitar and try new things in the process, and whether you succeed or fail often isn't relevant to the process. I have also seen your focus fail you because you have too much on the go at once. Its definitely not boring when you keep pushing your own envelopes. Its inspiring. I keep getting back on the horse over and over to try new things. The latest is a multiscale where I had to make my own fret cutting template and angle the neck like a Les Paul but using a bridge designed for zero angle. You can find Hipshot multiscale bridges, clones of Hipshot bridges, and individual saddles but nothing that lets you raise the bridge to ToM heights on its own. So we work out solutions: in this case some neck blank cut offs became a bridge plate 8mm thick. In the same build I've made my own knobs from the same cut offs. This is my 12th house-made guitar. You and I have been on this journey together. Don't change too much.

You need to do what makes you happy. I'll always be here to cheer you on, my friend! I do agree with a few of the other commenters here, that maybe it would be a better idea to make the new channel be Ben's Adventures, and keep the Crimson channel the one for the guitar building. You can always promote the new channel here, but most of your fan base here is here for guitar building videos.

This is amazing. It's good to follow your dreams as much as possible. Being perfectly honest, it is likely I may never build my own guitar (I don't even play) but I have been following your channel for years as a lover of craftsmanship. I love working with wood and have picked up multiple tips and tricks from you that can be used in other woodworking projects. You never know where the next inspiration will come from that will drive you forward in what you are passionate about.

Learning is one of my major motivations in life. If I am not learning something every day then I'm probably dead. Go for it ! Probably a new channel would be a good way to go but this sounds interesting and I for one will be there. One of the great things about musical instruments for me is that, however good you get, you will never be able to say I can do everything possible on that instrument now. Every day is learning. Love it [and music too] for that very reason.

Watching you ovr the past 2 years has taught me some things about guitar building as well as other guitar channels have.. I learned more by doing/building my guitar. although extremely overboard in concept and design electronics and paint design. in paint, electronics and all involved in my build. then there will be further giotar projets to add guitars to my self built collection. as I come up with new or unique designs.. challenge the mind and then the hands. thats what I did in the first build to test myself and learn the skills for it and further builds.

It makes sense! Ben is always trying new things with his builds, and I assume he's just figuring it out on his own. As much as he has been a guiding hand in guitar building it's time for him to get one in other areas. Bringing a digital audience along gets more eyes on the crafts that are out there. I'm excited to see what is out there, maybe I'll discover something I'd love to try too! All around a win for everyone!

While you have loved the more traditional guitar building work, you also like to push the boundaries of design. The metal and electronics in the Cyberpunk 2077 build. The exo-body of The Complication. Slicing up the GGBO '22 body and making a striped guitar. The big thing I like about following you is that nothing is off limits. Even when you fail with an idea, you set it aside as a possible thing for a future project. There's an inherent positivity in all your work that has been inspiring me for years, especially when you encouraged me to dive into starting my own YT channel. (thank you for that, by the way. I've been having fun working on that) I can't wait to see where you take us next.

I think this is epic! I'm an amateur guitar maker, but I am a maker of things! I've been a working jeweller, I've been a bench joiner, a site joiner, a tiler, a lapidary and many other things. I suppose I collect skills too. I love learning a new skill and that 'eureka' moment when out of nowhere, that part of my mind realises that the skill I have just learned can also lend itself to something else. I look forward to seeing your eureka moments happen! All the best Ben.

"I hope you are as excited as I am at the prospect of being filmed learning new skills..". How can we possibly be as excited as you should be? You should be excited, at the prospect of opening out the channel in this way, learning and teaching at the same time, but there is no way we can be as involved as you will be. It sounds interesting, intriguing and mind-expanding. I, for one, will give it a go, but I've a feeling I will prefer your second channel, concentrating on guitar building and perfecting woodworking techniques. I hope this expansion pays off, and the channel goes from strength to strength. Great times, and, of course, cool beans!

Ben, I love the concept for the upcoming videos. The university that I attend has both an electric and acoustic guitar building class. The electric started as building STEM kits, but has evolved into the students designing their own custom bodies using CAD before cutting them out with the CNC router. The acoustic class still uses a STEM base kit. However, the instructor has spent years tweaking the top and back bracing. The students are given a choice of what top and back bracing they want to build, making for some unique builds. The acoustic class has a lot of involvement with our bluegrass classes.

Hi Ben, I've enjoyed your videos for many years. When you mentioned guitar builders that make their own tremolos, my ears perked up. I have patented a novel tremolo bridge that can be individually configured for each string ( US 9,812,099) . Most interestingly, it can be setup to instantly shift the guitar into an alternate tuning if desired. It took me years to perfect it. I machine, polish and plate the bridges in my garage and put them on my guitars . I spent several years trying to find a partner in a guitar manufacturer but was not successful so now I mostly work on old pianos and still build guitars. I also have a patent on a truss rod that can be easily adjusted with an allen wrench through a small hole in the fretboard between the highest frets (US 9,805,698). Let me know if any of this is interesting to you and I look forward to seeing where your new direction leads. I have site, transmissionguitar with usual suffix/prefix.

Excellent! When I was in the Lower Sixth Form, we had, in Art Classes, for that year, a teacher from New Zealand (Malcom Rosindale - hi wherever you may be!) He was an absolute breath of fresh air to the tired pass-the-GCE/A-Level drudge we were accustomed to! He brought in a totally fresh approach, a try-anything attitude. He used to say to me, ‘…David, if someone offers to show you how to do something, take their arm off..!’ I often wondered exactly what he was getting at. In later years, as I’ve learned more and more, I can fully appreciate exactly what he meant! Thanks to you and the team at Crimson, we all broaden our experience, inquisitiveness and knowledge! Cheers! …oh and I’ll take the right arm please…! 🥰🥰🎸🎸🍺🍺☕️☕️

I can't agree more. in 2019, I was lying down on my couch, surfing on YT, in order to forget the nausea, and I was at that time interrested in wood carving. Eventually, I found a video where you were hand-carving a LP top. During the next 6 months, still on the couch, I certainly have seen two times all your videos 😂😂. When I had enough strengh to go back to the workshop, I built my first guitar. A year later I started a french channel about building guitars, using a hobbyist CNC as a creation tool, instead of using it as a productivity tool. Very soon I felt there must be on the channel, some recurring videos named "OOTB" for Out-Of-The-Box. Like "why not a fingerboard, assembled to the neck with a dovetail instead of glue", or more recently "why not using 16th century urushi finish tools and materials (the ones dedicated at that time for high end katana saya)"... Long comment, certainly not here to advertise in any way for my channel as it is only in french 😂😂. Very excited by your new journey. Keep on rockin' Ben, I'm a follower !
