Marseille has long held its unhappy reputation as one of Europe's crime capitals.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But a record 49 drug-related murders last year, fuelled by a brutal turf-war between rival gangs, has taken the violence to a new level.
While French authorities struggle to get a grip - many of those caught up in it say acute social deprivation is to blame.
We were granted rare access to a gang in the city's notorious northern quarters.

Psychedelics saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety, smoking, and illicit pills addiction. I grew up in Inner city Manchester as a youth in the mid 90s but this looks far worse than where I grew up, in fact when I visited Marseille a few years ago, I got mugged on the waterfront by a group of lads. I have to say that the people were very welcoming and down to Earth in general, more so than the snootier Parisians. Marseille reminds me of Liverpool more than Manchester.

From just one apartment block they make €50,000+ a day, so it is obviously not poverty driven and given the unemployment rates it would be reasonable to assume that this money is coming straight from French taxpayers.
@FeelingsAintFacts
@FeelingsAintFacts 18 күн бұрын
They generate €50,000+ per day , however the network boss takes a large chunk, another portion is used to buy more drugs , and the rest to pay the workers who are poor unless they work their way up to the top. Lookouts generally make €80-150 per day and the dealers make €300-€500. So they are still quite poor , especially since it's not something you can do every day like a normal job because of the risks associated . In reality most of them barely make minimum wage by the end of the month
@TProfileG

@@TProfileG Europe doesnt owe a damn penny to islamic world, especially on the european land. everyone is talking everywhere about poor muslims, but they never see how Turkey(middle eastern colonial empire way worse than France ever was) is actively trying to invade the politics in Europe since the XX century and represses kurds(also muslims btw). Algeria had 1.5 million europeans and 115000 jews before independence, where are they now? there are 2300(!) mosques in France and 200+ are planned to be built, while there are only 2 remaining synagogues in Algeria. Bahai faith is completely banned in Algeria and persecuted. not to mention the erasure of Amazigh people, their language and culture across the North Africa by arab nationalists. people in the first photo, why are they waving algerian flags in central Paris ffs? if you love Algeria so much and hate France - go back to Algeria, please, especially if you are a first generation immigrant, don't try to turn Paris into Alger. when the first zionists of XIX century were migranting into Palestine of these times they were met not only with discrimination based on their religion and ethnicity, but also with violence. that's why Haganah was created initially, in order to protect jews, including the indigenous ones

Homicide in London 2023 stood at 110, How on earth is 49 Homicides classed as Europe's most dangerous city?
@FeelingsAintFacts
@FeelingsAintFacts 17 күн бұрын
Because you suck at maths... London's population is 9,65 million inhabitants whereas Marseille only has 873,076 inhabitants. so London's murder rate is 1.14 per 100,000 , whereas Marseille's 5.6 per 100,000 . Furthermore that figure doesn't include homicides for other motives , only drug related homicides

Using 2019 facts the UK is 198th of 203 countries for knife crime. The media is sensationalising knife crime for political reasons. The UK is one of the safest countries for Gun and Knife crime. Even with the lack of Guns meaning Knives are more likely to be used.

In Jackson, Mississippi, there are between 140 and 150 murders per year. And that's for 150,000 inhabitants. So Marseille with its almost 900,000 people still has a long way to go.
