In the Robert Downey, Jr. walk-out clip, there's an annotation linking to this video that says, "Watch Quentin Tarantino tell Krishnan: I'm shutting your butt down!" Channel 4 is actually *PROUD* of this shit. It seems like they're actually CONDONING Krishnan Guru-Murthy's unprofessional journalism for the views. Bravo, Channel 4. Bravo.
@johnoregan8911
@johnoregan8911 9 жыл бұрын
zhaquiri they seem to be under the mistaken impression that there is no such thing as bad publicity for their channel. People are not laughing with them, they are laughing at them, and Channel 4 may soon find itself being left off the list for press tours like Downey jr, Tarantino etc. Krishnan Guru-Murthy is simply not a good interviewer - he tries to dig and stir but he is so obvious that they see him coming a mile off. Louis Theroux he is not. Guru-Murthy has had his opportunities and should really now be sidelined so that somebody else can be given a chance. I hope that there is somebody at Channel 4 News with the power to do this, somebody not afraid of having the race card dropped on them, because the fallout from the Downey Jr fiasco is the perfect opportunity.

John O'Regan Here's to hoping this whole thing gets around so much that many celebrities and political figures will hear about it, then proceed to blacklist Channel 4, or at least the mouth-breathing fool called Krishnan Guru-Murthy, from any of their press tours. We don't need to do much, it looks like, because Channel 4 is doing the spreading all by itself. "Look at how unprofessional we are! Wan't to see more? Here's an annotation linking you to more unprofessional shit from us! Woo-hoo!"

zhaquiri Since that Robert Downey Jr. interview Krishnan has been getting a lot of stick. He was definitely out of line in that interview, but I don't totally blame him though. I mean it's like you said, Channel 4 are promoting this stuff and I feel it's part of a strategy. So I don't think it's all Krishnan, I think a lot of his more sensitive questions and the controversy he creates are something his employers want him to do.
@zhaquiri
@zhaquiri 9 жыл бұрын
Matthew Burke I don't know. He already received flack for the Tarantino incident, not the mention the others. Even IF it's part of Channel 4's "strategy" and it's not all Krishnan, it seems to me like he's loving this. I mean, come on, no self-respecting journalist actually "goes along" with crossing the line, especially if they've already received backlash over it in the past. The fact that he's doing it at all, regardless of Channel 4's direct involvement, is problematic. Channel 4 being "proud" of this is a different problem altogether.

Channel 4 is funded by advertising whilst the BBC is funded by the Television Licence. They are not the same, the only thing they have in common is their style of ownership, they aren’t interconnected in terms of the way they’re ran.

When you go on a show like that, it's to promote your movie. The interviewer shouldn't have been bringing up controversy about the movie. You just dont continually go on with a topic a guest is uncomfortable with or defensive on. You FAIL as an interviewer the minute an actor walks out ...its just bad ... you are their to flesh out something interesting about a person the audience may or may not have known ... this is about finding out about the film , his evolution as a director and what aspects he wants to bring to the genre ... a missed opportunity and an embarrassment to the network.

I watched Django and what a masterpiece, people were upset at the use of the N word but you could not have told that story and conveyed the absolutely appalling situation that was slavery without it. It truly immersed you into that world and made it real, it was shocking and I think that was good thing and on top of that you got an amazing cast that ended up making an amazing modern day western. To be honest, I’m not a fan of his at all but I really think Guru-Murthy handles the situation well here. It’s the nature of the show to try and touch on issues that affect the real world, as much as it is the nature of Tarantino to simply sell his movie. No one is at fault, it’s just a very interesting clash of dynamics

You're missing his job, which is to get juicy bits out of people, get them in controversy or just to generate an entertaining segment, which he is an expert at looking at the views his interviews get. He's a genius and a good worker, it may not be ethical and what not, but that's what he is here for.
@Omnicient.
@Omnicient. Жыл бұрын
Krishnan has a very simple way of getting narcissists and sociopaths to come out of hiding. It's much easier with American's for all sort of psychological reasons; one being how extreme their minds can be; they're rarely in grey areas and this is the area to be in to catch them. You can see Krishnan's smirk as he knows he's captured their real selves on tape which is what any interviewer and audience would look for. Downey Jr walked into the interview room with hands in pockets, chewing gum, avoiding everyone, and walked to a window, looked out and was clearly intent on starting trouble and again by doing so captured a side to him that I imagine he would want hidden. I avoid all his films after seeing such behaviour and learned he is drug addict. They're all their own worse enemies it seems. I've seen Tarantio behave very badly in reality that is beyond frightening. I avoid them. Gibson would be another who should be in an institution and away from the public.

@@Omnicient.Americans have extreme minds? What is meant by that? What data or research are you using? What methodology was used to come to such conclusions? I don't see any bad behaviour by Tarantino in this clip. He expresses when a boundary is being crossed in a direct manor, defends his position, makes no personal attacks, and doesn't take the interaction personally. This is healthy communication that very few people engage in. The interviewer on the other hand disrespects Tarantino by ignoring the communicated boundary. The interviewer also appears cold, callus, and calculating the whole time. He shows no emotional responses, which would be normal in the situation.

If you're a journalist, you have a responsibility to do the interview that you and your interviewee agreed on doing. In many ways, they are your guest at your home, THE SAME RULES APPLY. He's immoral because he thinks Kill Bills movie ratings dont apply to a 12 year old. Maybe he should have done his home work. Reporter Jan Wahl was right. Films cause real life violence. Another case were the mass murders by James Holmes. Quentin Tarantino is also not a moral man saying he would of beat up that cameraman paparazzi if he didnt have his camera. Thats immorality. You cant just attack someone for that reason. You can only defend yourself and he wasnt in danger. He may be rich but he is a character of poor stature. Id rather be decent than rich. He had an interview with Robert Downey Jr. that got so personal in the final few minutes that RDJ walked out. He also had an interview with Richard Ayoade that went to shit almost immediately, but more 'comically' than 'awkwardly'. His interviews may often go south but they're entertaining, and they attract audiences. Add to that his otherwise very impressive and professional career (check Krishnan Guru-Murthy on wikipedia), so it's unsurprising that his employers don't tend to look harshly on incidents like this.

@@DaProHobbit You've missed the point. An interview basically shows the sides of these people that everyone wants to see. And, in turn, will make them want to see the movies even more so. So yes, it's basically a free advert. Journalism or not, though, getting into subjects that have nothing to do with the person in question is just a blatant disregard for all the rules. That's not journalism. That's inciting propaganda towards a targeted audience. Something the CNN and FOX news likes to do.

Quentin handled this completely wrong. The simple answer: There is ZERO evidence that violent material causes and/or promotes violence. There have been numerous scientific studies and every single one has shown that there is no correlation between violent comics, books, tv shows, movies, etc. and real-world violence. Also, he missed an opportunity when the reporter said "I love your movies" ask him "Why do you like my violent movies? Proved my point right there"

To the people yelling "fire the interviewer!" - why would they? This interview has got nearly 3 million views, and it wouldn't have done if there wasn't controversy. If you think the channel cares about Tarantino's feelings more than they do attracting attention, you've got a thin grasp of how media works. Also, while I agree that Krishnan pushed it too far, I much prefer the British way of handling press junkets in which they don't handle the interviewee with kid gloves and try to elicit real responses.
