X-Men is an American superhero film series based on the fictional superhero team of the same name, who originally appeared in a series of comic books created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and published by Marvel Comics. 20th Century Fox obtained the film rights to the characters in 1994, and after numerous drafts, Bryan Singer was hired to direct the first film, released in 2000, and its sequel, X2 (2003), while the third installment of the original trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), was directed by Brett Ratner.

@@Dookieman1975 In the comics, she could only absorb actual mutations, but I think that was a retcon AFTER the Ms Marvel thing. She couldn't, for example, take Spiderman Hulk, or Juggernaut's powers, just knock them out by touching them like with a regular person, it's like her X-gene rewrites it's benefits to be the same as someone else's. Little known fact: Rogue and Kitty were Logan's sidekicks back in the 80's. Wolverine hated rogue at first and it wasn't until she almost died saving his fiancee, Mariko, that he somewhat warmed up to her and took her under his wing. Kitty was just able to bond with Logan better and then came Jubilee in the 90's.

Doug and rob write the scripts so we can’t blame Malcom for not knowing, he might not know anything at all. But Doug is incredibly insistent in the first movie review that rogue could fly and was super strong and was confident and a sassy southern bell. When she didn’t have any of those powers or traits till she took them from Ms. Marvel (captain marvel). The x men tv show takes place in media rez (meaning half way into the story) we aren’t seeing the beginning of the x men just the beginning of jubilee’s story so rogue already has those powers and traits. BUT even the 90s cartoon has a flash back in a later season showing rogue stole those powers when she was a teenager from captain marvel so either Doug forgot about that, or he’s being very unfair expecting a cameo from captain marvel just so rogue can steal her powers and personality traits and put her in coma for a decade so he can get his late 20s-early 30s live action rogue he wants lol

Same issue I had with the original XMen movie review: The problem with the criticism of Rogue here is that Rogue didn't get those badass powers of flight and super strength and toughness until she drained Ms Marvel nearly to death. A younger Rogue NOT having those powers is an ACCURATE portrayal of her.
@Nolascana
@Nolascana Жыл бұрын
I get why they had Rogue as the audience surrogate... but it could have worked with Jubiliee as the surrogate just as well and worked out some other bullshit for how the machine worked. It didn't HAVE to be Rogue as a teenager, honestly, I like the film but I just don't see her as Rogue. Even in later movies tbh. I mean, Mistique should be her mother? Captain Marvel being murdered by a young Rogue (her soul essentially gets completely absorbed, pretty sure it did kill her, depends on the writer) practically forced to by Mistique and eventually being saved by Xavier. Storm... was just bad casting, I love how she is in the cartoon far more. I mean, I LOVE Sir Ian as Magneto, but, uh, for the rest of the cast being as young as they are/how fresh the team seems to be. Patrick Stewart bathes in the blood of the innocent, feckit his age I have no issue with. He still looks younger than his age up they had to do for TNG.

The xmen movies were before the MCU. They could have also just had her kill/almost kill a mutant that had a similar skill set. The First Xmen movie and Xmen Evolution were released the same year by different teams... with completely different target audiences and universe expectations. That goth Rogue wouldn't have worked any better if she was supposed to be the same/ similar age as the other xmen. Nobody would even want to bother with her loner ass if she didn't grow to trust people. That's why Jubilee was made for the cartoon. All the movie had to do was write another character in as the audience surrogate and people would have been less pissed. I mean, I don't hate the films... but she just isn't Rogue. I can cope with her not being as confident and strong as her comic counterpart (storyline and continuity dependent). I can cope with her being nerfed, I mean, they don't even show Storm flying most of the time. Its standing around, a brief bit of wire work, more standing. I mean, pregnancy aside body doubles and stunt women exist... but STILL. It was a stupid decision. Rogue got punted to side character almost as fast as they forgot to give Cyclops and Jean any character in the following films. I mean, sure, Magneto being a key focus of the first movie would have worked just fine (Xavier being his foil), gradually focus on the rest of the team- oh wait. That's why first class worked as well as it did.

In Rogue's defense, she's still a teenager, meaning she just had her powers emerge during puberty! How many can truly say as a teenager they were confident in themselves? The version of Rogue we're most familiar with is 10yrs older than the Singer XMen version. A decade is plenty of time to develop the confidence she's known for. Also, within that 10yrs, she would meet Mystique and steal Captain Marvel's powers to allow her to fly

Most people also forget Rogue's villain past. Not just that she stole Carol's powers, but that she was the villain while doing so. If anything they should have ditched the Mags machine plot and made her a member of The Brotherhood. Have the plot be Mags trying to recruit Wolverine. Explain the sides, let them shoot the shit together, fight once and then switch up the sides as you have defectors. We could have even had this with both sides as Pyro could have been an Xavier student and so Rogue and Wolvie joins the team and Pyro leaves.

1:38:54 - 1:39:09 Not gonna lie, after watching Taylor Kitsch's Gambit in this movie, I'm really wishing another rewrite that could've fixed X-Men: The Last Stand would've been casting Kitsch in that movie rather than in Origins: Wolverine. He would've been close to Anna Paquin's age in 2006, Gambit could've be introduced as a new student, along with Warren/Angel who ran away from his father, the inventor of the cure, and maybe they'd become friends. He then meets Rogue during her issues with Bobby when he's flirting with Kitty Pryde, his Gambit could comfort Rogue, and his getting close to Rogue when she's considering whether or not to take the cure could help keep that deleted ending where Rogue chooses to keep her powers, becoming more confident. Unfortunately, Kitsch instead took a role in an even more unpopular movie, The Craft for boys- I mean, The Covenant.

@@10tailedbijuu The context here, is that she never does anything. She can be as angsty and trauma filled as she'd like, but they should have at least done something with her in combat. That way we can get the full idea of her powers, benefits and drawbacks. That original fight with Sabertooth, have Logan get knocked out, have Cyke get stunned, she walks over and touches them both and blasts the shit out of Creed while also brawling with him, bone claws flashing. She saves the day, we as an audience realize just how powerful and broken she can be. Just a touch and she's rocking dozens of powers for a few minutes. You suddenly understand why while she hates her power, its handy, it could save lots of people. That is a thing that Evolution was good about. We realize very early that Rogue is dangerous and powerful. She likes people and wants to be liked, but her powers alienate her and force her to be more reserved, its a counter point between her and Kitty in character. Kitty gets to be outgoing and kind, Rogue always doubts herself.

Meh I always preferred 'angsty' Rouge. Her mutant power makes it so she would always struggle having any kind of relationship since even something as simple as a hug, could kill someone close to her. It's to the point she even has to cover up her hands. So it makes sense that would make her feel upset and frustrated

@ryanangelastro504 Well, it all depends on exactly how telekinesis works. In some lore, the telekinetic must be able to see the whole object in order to move it. For example; see an apple on the table. You can see the entire apple and can therefore move it. But, what about an empty refrigerator box. Step away from the giant box so you can see the whole thing, then you can lift it too. But get up close on the massive box so that your entire field of vision is filled with cardboard and you can't move it. Also, get inside the box, where all you can see is just the inside, so once again you won't be able to move it.

I was never an avid reader of the comics, but I knew enough to know that there was a teenager who latched onto Wolverine who accidently caused an incident when she was first gaining her powers and ran away from home. Named Jubilee who blew up an arcade machine... but, hey, I later read a comic where Rogue was also blowing stuff up, so I thought the movie was just skipping some stuff.

Rogue just having her own power means that she can mix and match everyone else on the team with her in interesting ways and even add their enemies to the mix.

While I agree that Rouge was done dirty, part of the reason is that her super strength and flight came from her draining Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, during her time in the Brotherhood before joining the XMen. Fox didn't have the rights to use any other Marvel characters. It also probably helped keep the effects budget down. Also, Jean totally could've lived through the flood in X2, but Professor X could not have lifted the plane. He's only telepathic, not telekinetic. I would've loved if they had Wolverine and Storm be together like they were in some of the comics, but apparently love triangles are more appealing.

In the X2 movie however we see her having trouble controlling her powers and Cyclops mentions that ever since Magneto's mutant making machine she had nightmares and issues with her power. This was actually set up and gradually revealed through the course of 3 movies. Sure, there were no aliens, perhaps the the movies had too many plot elements to fit that in, but at least there was some continuity.

of the 11 X-Men movies, here's how I'd rate them X-Men: cool X2: X-Men United: awesome X-Men: The Last Stand: FUCK YEAH! IT'S AWESOME! X-Men Origins: Wolverine: WWWWWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! X-Men: First Class: ok The Wolverine: YES! X-Men: Days Of Future Past: confusing but awesome X-Men Apocalypse: poetic and cool Deadpool: hilarious and awesome Deadpool shorts including No Good Deed: hilarious and awesome Logan: awesome and emotional and investing, one of the best stories that Wolverine has Deadpool 2: hilarious and awesome Dark Phoenix: THIS MOVIE SUCKED! FUCK THIS MOVIE IN THE ASS WITH A PINEAPPLE! THEN SCREAM THE INSULTS FROM THE DRILL SERGEANT IN FULL METAL JACKET! Once Upon A Deadpool: cool but it was too censored to be funny at all Deadpool 2 Super Duper Cut: woah! bit more R rated than Deadpool normally is, I like it though The New Mutants: confusing at first but was overall cool and felt like Nightmare On Elm Street mixed with X-Men so I liked it a lot Deadpool & Wolverine: *data corrupted cause I overdosed on awesomeness and hilariousness to the point that to keep the Earth save I had to watch it on Saturn and it blew up from how much I loved Deadpool & Wolverine*

After what Disney did to HULK and SPIDERMAN I'm not looking forward to see what they'll do with the X-Men

1:19:47 no its not thanos does this as a sense of commitment as he feels like he has to I don't think he got any enjoyment out of dusting half the population outside the joy he felt after completing a mission he had sense he was young that's why the removed thw line "that does put a smile on my face" sense that's not really his character

You know a big difference between the X-MEN and the MCU? The X-Men never relied on nostalgia

And most of the X-Men villians are actually good and decent. Most of them.

Er...I wouldn't even give them most. The only villains in these movies who are consistently good and/or worth a damn are Magneto and Mystique. And once we got to a certain point, even that stopped. In some aspects, the X-Movies' problem with their villains is on par with or even worse than the MCU's.
