For many, Toonami was their intro to anime. The Nostalgia Critic is shown the impact one of Cartoon Network's most famous programming segments...with TOM too, of course.

This might sound really stupid but toonami actually saved my life..my friend came over my house and wanted me to go with him to some girl's house, usually I would say yes but I was like "hell no, DBZ is about to come on"..now this wasn't just any episode of Dragonball z. This was the first time in the US that Goku turned Super Saiyan against Freiza. I waited a long long time for this episode and I was not about to miss it..well he left my house and as he was driving, he made a U turn too quick and got hit by a semi..he survived but was in a coma for weeks but the passenger side where I would have sat was completely caved in..lucky me. Thanks toonami

Talks about Sailor Moon without mentioning monster of the week. Calls DBZ monster of the week right after. With the fillers, it felt a little monster of the week sometimes, but even then, it was never one week. Even Garlic Junior took up a fair share of time.
@schribbler1592
@schribbler1592 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I cringed at that. She apparently hasn't seen DBZ in a long time. Kinda shocked no one corrected her. Dragon Ball hasn't resembled anything close to monster of the week since the beginning of Dragon Ball, then it quickly switched to Pilaf as an overarching villain, and kept some of the characters that would have been considered'a monster of the week. If anything GT would fit that formula a bit better in the beginning, but a person would still be stretching to call it a 'Monster of the Week' type show.

Nope, unfortunately they didn't kiss! In this scene they were talking about the first kiss ever, done by Adam and Eve (in the original Japanese dub.) Sorry to disappoint you, but it's clearly not them. They even resemble more Usagi & Mamoru (Serena & Darien), since one of them has odangos. But they're still a couple and it's very obvious in the show.

YuYu Hakusho was and will remain one of my favorite animes of all time. Yes it was a bit DBZ in format but was so willing to show shades of complexity in the villains from the start. Kurama having a noble reason for his original break in to basically the whole third and forth seasons having such complex villains that they seemed written to spite normal anime tropes.

Toonami was for me as a teenager what Saturday morning cartoons were for me as a kid.I think with the previous generations before mine there wasn’t much in the way of good cartoon programming aimed pre teens and teens, which is why even Doug’s generation typically stopped watching cartoons and only came back later because of nostalgia or because they started watching it with their kids. While a lot of people I grew up with never stopped because there was enough quality and mature content that we didn’t merely think of cartoons as “kid’s stuff” and grow out of it.

They didn't see the original Space Ghost's run in Japan as they were like 2 or 3 when it aired, but they do remember the original Birdman (it was called Denshi Choujin U-Bird in Japan.) The rebooted takes on Space Ghost and Birdman made them laugh, ESPECIALLY the episode where the cow rants about how dumb the show is over the end credits.

one thing that yall got wrong. the april fools day toonami marathon was not a sneek peek . it was infact originally a joke. the issue was . twitter crashed from the amount of people on twitter posting about it. i myself was part of a petition that started before the marathon even ended. . by the next morning when it was over the petition had over 250k signatures. in only 8 hours. they came back a week later and posted one little 5 second bumper on adult swim when it started saying they were listening so time to speak. by the ned of the month they had over 2.5 mill requests to have it return with new day anime. people evn started messaging steve blum asking him to help get the show back and he started campaigning saying hed return as the voice of tom if we did enough to get it back. then a few months later they said they had over 5 million requests to have the block return and so it did and got a bit bigger of a budget for better anime . in essence . toonami had more people request it come back than episodes of rick and morty get in viewers. as they only see about 2.5mill per episode.

naruto and yu yu hakusho are still my two most beloved animes. naruto being the first i ever saw that intreeged me and gave me life lessons that i still use today and yu yu hakusho being the next one i stumbled onto after reeding a demo of the first volume then quickly folling in love with the characters and more adult themes, both amazingly emotional shows

This video is definitely one of the very best big events ever done by Channel Awesome! I’m always amazed and happy to rewatch it! You guys all do such a wonderful job talking about these shows. It is also a shame that some of my favorites are not included though. Seriously it’s a real shame that none of you acknowledged Sym Biotic Titan! Did you guys miss that one? Because if you did, you should totally look it up! However I truly do enjoy this event and you all did Toonami justice! The segments on my favorite anime programs make me really smile a lot! Fantastic work on this video. Please do a follow up someday and talk about more classic Cartoon Network shows!

I feel so old when I see some of these comments. I remember when Moltar hosted Toonami when I was a kid. I used to love watching Cartoon Network all day in between turning my TV to channel 3 to play video games. Childhood was awesome. In HS, I made it my mission to buy all of the Hanna Barbera and MGM classics that I loved watching on CN as a kid. Still don't have all of them yet, but I'm so glad WB finally released the Swat Kats complete collection a few years ago. And I would also like to get Spider-Man (Fox Kids), but it's been years and it still doesn't have an official home media release even though it was one of the baddest cartoons of all-time.

@@JustinBailey91 Oh I'll probably get it. The last time I've seen Spider-Man was when Disney XD had its rights in 2009, the "Web-a-lution Marathon" when they reran all the episodes for two days. I'm talking about a home media release on DVD or Blu-Ray, this is one of the most requested cartoons of all-time.

I wasn’t able to watch Toonami as a kid because my Mum was strict about bedtimes. I watched all my anime on KZbin. I was only able to secretly catch a few episodes of Inuyasha at 3 am, and then Naruto where I could, and then DVR’d Death Note, and Blood+ when that became an option since those showed at like, midnight. And of course, the films like Studio Ghibli and the Naruto films. I’m kind of envious of people who got to watch Toonami in its heyday.
