I like the explanation of magic and science being the same thing because in all honesty, it gives the fictional concept of magic realism in a way that's never been done before. And, in an age where most people like realism, I'd say it's a godsend. The elder scrolls got this right as well. In TES, magic is divided into different types: destruction, conjuration, restoration, alteration, and, illusion. And, like how a scientist studies subjects like physiology or archeology, a mage with skill and aptitude could study each type of magical category called schools and it's up to the mage to pick which avenue of study they like. They keep on learning even after they'd become a master. That's why I like magic being explained this way
@jareththegoblinking3191 Жыл бұрын

Poor Black Cauldron. Such an underrated film.
@carsfan1995 Жыл бұрын
@@TruffleSeeker54 It’s only underrated in your eyes and the eyes of adults is 1. It bombed at the box office and thus doesn’t have hype backlash that a successful film has. 2. It appeals to the 1980s fantasy edgelord sensibilities thus making it seem “darker” and “more mature” than it actually is. If Frozen were a 2D movie that it originally was going to be and bombed at the box office people would calling it underrated masterpiece because of their tiny brains of “2D animation” and “such a shame it didn’t bring handdrawn animation back to the big screen.” People wouldn’t be nitpicking the story or slamming the characters as much because it “reminded them of the 2D era renaissance films.” You’re just as shallow as the people who like the mainstream stuff, it’s just they are more willing to like present day stuff and accept that the past wasn’t that good.

I got a question: What's wrong with explaining magic with a bit of psuedo science? I don't see anything wrong with giving your magic some kind of laws establishing what it can and can't do. Gives better reason for how things work. Like how one sorcerer defeats another sorcerer without it sounding like an ass pull.
@andromedasgarden6 жыл бұрын
I know your comment is a year old by now, but whatever: there's a big difference between establishing rules to how your magic'ing works, and shoehorning in a pseudoscientific explanation. The former is not a bad thing at all; in fact, most (good) high fantasy works have very consistent rules that define what magic practitioners can and cannot do, as well as give a more or less clear notion of how powerful everyone is. However, when you try and explain magic in a mundane manner, down to real world terms like matter/energy (in the physical sense, of course), particles and whatnot, you risk ruining the experience (as the Critic said in the video) for both science buffs and fantasy nerds: to the latter, your system will seem way less... Well, magical, thereby negating the genre's entire allure; and to the former it'll feel like a huge break in the suspension of disbelief, as they'll obviously be able to tell your explanation it's bullshit.
@sm3ghe4d22 Жыл бұрын
@@andromedasgarden Idk i think mixing science and magic is great and interesting like in the league legends series Arcane they find many different ways to harness magic through science and that show did very well and is very popular amongst both Fantasy and sci fi nerds alike. Magic in this movie is still magic Nicks character was just giving him tools on how to use it like him vibrating the molecules is the magic part but the rest is the result of science. I kinda pity ppl who are unable to enjoy a fictional world where magic and science coincide and exist together cuz the many way those two things interact with each other can make for some interesting world building.
