Doug was right about one thing about this movie: people do want to like this film. It does have the potential to be a great film, but as long Adam Sandler refuses to realize that his shtick is dull and that he needs to adapt/change up his comedy, this film will remain a shixel in the eyes of everyone. Who agrees with me?
@EvolMuzik4ever9 жыл бұрын
+Frankie Reese I agree. I think that the movie had a great plot but Adam Sandler's shtick is old.
+Frankie Reese As long as Adam Sandler is involved, it won't be good. Seriously, it's just his comedies, THE GUY himself is a lazy slob. He never invest himself in any role wether he plays a manchild, a former football player or anything he's always walking around in pyjama pants, some college t-shirt, he's always living in a huge house (and his job never justifies the house), his wife is always someonen who, in real life, would be waaaay out of his league. They should've just picked somebody else all together, someone who is funny and who actually cares about his craft.

TheShrimp Plaza Agreed. I mean think about it. Why are actors/comedians like Amy Poehler, Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey, Jonah Hill, and Seth Rogen still popular? Because they understand that the same routine they have doesn't work forever. They learn to adapt. Adam Sandler fails to realize that and like you said he's never invested in what he makes. He doesn't give a damn. "As long as I make money I don't care!" Honestly this isn't the worst Sandler film I've seen. Hell it doesn't even make the top 10, but in its own right, it sucks.

I think the hate is partly due to how the "comedy" in this film devolves to the level of "Epic Movie," "Meet the Spartans" and other of those really bad "parody" films. Where they don't actually parody or make fun of anything, they just reference stuff. For example, they'd just go, "hey look, it's the jackasses from Jersey Shore," and show the people from Jersey Shore, and that's the whole "joke." That's pretty much what they do in Pixels. They would point out a video game character or trope and that's the whole "joke."

Yeah, the tipping point for me in Pixels was where the cheat code comes in. The entire last part of the movie hinges on the fact that, a guy, put a cheat code into a car for a character he wasn't even playing as. Cause he was playing as a ghost, so how the fuck would a speed cheat, that you would use as Pac Man, work for the ghost? I mean, obviously the bigger question is how the hell you put a cheat code into a car, but still. The cheat code doesn't even make any damn sense.

I love that idea for a kids movie! I even have an idea for a kids movie that's basically like From Dusk Till Dawn, where it starts off as one thing, and then throughs you off guard with something insane and over the top. Like, it would start off as a slice of life story with kids and talking animals, but then becomes a superhero, alien invasion, action comedy with the kids and animals getting superpowers through alien technology.

I think I can explain how Peter Dinklage's character used the cheat code. He had it written on his sunglasses and interpreted it as driving fast, not teleporting. The film didn't say he teleports. He drives his "ghost-car" very fast to catch up with Pac-Man. And I'll say that maybe he accidentally stumbled onto it as a kid. Now I know this isn't explaining much, but that's what I'm going with.

+Terry Wood At the risk of sounding prejudice towards the vertically challenged, you have to admit that Peter's choices for parts are kind of limited, due to his size. I hate saying that, but it's kind of a fact. Therefore, it's not like he has too many options as an actor. Don't get me wrong, I do think he's talented, when you give him something to work with. Sadly, he didn't have much to work with in "Pixels." Maybe Peter Dinklage hasn't gotten too many offers for parts, so he may have taken the Pixels role for the money. Again, we don't know, but I just think we shouldn't rule out the fact that maybe he's not getting too many parts due to his appearance. As much I hate saying that, it's the truth because if you think about it. Why is that an Oscar caliber actress like Gabourey Sidibe continues to struggle to find parts, while a no talent bitch like Megan Fox is still getting parts? Go figure that one out.

For example the Shaymalan film is bad, really bad, but I still adore Avatar:The Last Airbender, and I still love older episodes of Spongebob. The bad material doesn't degrade the quality of the good material of the franchise, If you don't like newer adaptions then just enjoy what you like, for not a soul is forcing you to watch that terrible Micheal Bay film with Shia Lebouf screaming "OPTIMUUUUUUSSSSS!!"

Exactly my thoughts. For example, my sister was watching an episode of "Zoey 101" (or some show like that) that is supposed to be a parody of "The Breakfast Club." I think one of the real reasons that we flipped out over this one was because it was the perfect storm of Adam Sandler taking something that all of us loved growing up, classic video games. Something that so many of us hold dear to our hearts and remember so fondly, taking those beautiful memories from our childhood and just shitting on them with a fart joke of a crap Adam Sandler movie. Any of us who loved arcade games inner child just squealed inside when we heard that there was going to be a big budget movie about classic arcade games coming to life and invading the Earth. To Doug and Rob, If you haven't seen Reign over Me yet, you really should. You never mention it at all when talking about his dramatic roles, so I'm assuming you haven't seen it. I feel like it's pretty much the answer to why this movie blew so hard, because that movie already acheived a similar result with a similar idea, but made it a drama instead of a comedy. Whether you end up liking the movie or not, that is one of the first movies that legitimized the portrayal of someone playing a video game in an artistic and emotional way. The way the director came up with the idea to have him playing Shadow of the Collosus and how it ties in, and the sort of loner escapism character Sandler portrays works very well for what it was trying to convey. And Sandler really enjoyed playing that game in real life and taught others how to play. So that's why this movie fell so flat for me, because he as an actor had already done it sooo much better.

I saw Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and I thought that was the worst movie I personally have ever seen. It's way, way worse than Pixels and I'm very surprised that's not the one every one's getting so angry about.

I went to this movie, knowing that it would be terrible, hoping that dinklage would save it. he didn't.

Ryan R. really? I didn't think it was as terrible as everybody says, but I certainly didn't think it was that good, either.

Ryan R. I really liked it, at first, too. but then I looked back, and thought about how illogical and formulaic it is. but I respect your opinion, nonetheless.

If I remember that truman show shit that went on at my house correctly..I think I came up with the idea of putting the dinosaurs in jurrasic world in a theme park..and that very short romance was a mocking of B movie cliches, oh and the twist with the two tech people not getting together was mocking expectations....but then again that all could have been a dream it was a very weird time in my life

I'm I the only one here that I think everyone is overreacting to Pixels? what I mean is we had a lot of bad video games 10 times worse than pixels my I remind you guys about uwe boll? don't get me wrong pixels is a piece of shit but like I said we had waaaaay worse video games movie then pixels.
@29AndreG9 жыл бұрын
I just got back from Pixels. What I can tell you is this: It's not good, but I didn't hate it like everyone else did. From what I've heard from every review I've read, they were pretty harsh on harsh on it.I'd say the positives are visual effects and when the video games are attacking. Everyone in their reviews have immaturely disregard the action sequences and the visual effects due to them being in an Adam Sandler movie. Plus there are cool cameos by a lot of 80's property.But the negatives are it's still an Adam Sandler movie with jokes that don't work and it doesn't know what it want to be. There are times where it's tries to have kid friend moment, but then it turns into a adult joke.I'd say your better off renting it at RedBox and skip to the action scenes. So yeah, it's a rental. It wasn't good, I wasn't mad like everyone else did.

+29AndreG I'd still watch this film over Wing Commander anyday.
@Helmslock9 жыл бұрын
29AndreG I 100% agree with you pixels is just another bad adam sandler movie nothing to make as "the worst movie ever!" it not even worth getting insanely mad about.
@uknownada9 жыл бұрын
+Helmslock Just because other movies aren't as bad doesn't make this movie any better. Plus most game movies, including the ones by Uwe Boll, are *adaptations* of video games. Pixels is a movie that's *about* video games, not based on them. Movies about video games have usually been very good. Wargames, The Last Starfighter, Tron, Wreck-It Ralph, etc.
@TheRezro9 жыл бұрын
+Helmslock I think that problem lies in fact that Uwe Boll movie were simply incompetent fan-fiction and nothing else, when Pixel is simply jump on cash made by people who know shit about geek culture and that is what piss people most. Yes, people overreact but there is also legitimate reason for that.
@insulttothehumanrace38079 жыл бұрын
Thanks to Doug and Rob for sharing their thoughts. It seems to me that Sandler does not make the distinction between changing the premise and changing the story. Pixels is basically "Adam Sandler story with old video game characters and stuff". He changes his settings, but he doesn't change his plots (in recent productions, anyway), and that's his way of doing "new things". That's... not how it's done.

In most of the other "Real Thoughts" Doug interrupts Rob a *lot* more. I think Doug likes to let Rob take the wheel when he has the stronger opinions because it makes for a better video.

Sure but they need to stop interrupting each other. It becomes difficult to understand what either of them says.

I've only seen your review not the movie itself, but what confused me about the cheat code thing is that in Pac Man you don't play as the Ghosts like they were in the alien's recreation so putting aside the whole cheat codes in real life thing, any Pac Man cheat code shouldn't help them anyway.

Moviebob never said this was the worst movie ever or anything like that. He didn't even say it was the worst Adam Sandler movie (he said that Jack & Jill is worse). So what are they talking about, other than generally pointless bitching?
@catiseith9 жыл бұрын
Then what exactly did he say? Because his review kinda gave that impression...
@underthewoods83769 жыл бұрын
He said that due to his personal interests and geek culture leanings, Pixels pissed him off more than most bad movies because of the specifics of what it was cynically using - retro gaming. Many bad movies make cynical use of particular subject matter to generate profit, but because Pixels used things that Moviebob loves and hold very dear, it pissed him off more than most bad movies do.
