The greatest thing this show pulled off was making Della not only feel like she belongs, but like she's been a part of the picture the whole time. The first season makes us actually feel like she's someone that Scrooge and Donald and Beakley really knew, not just this nebulous mary sue of a concept. By the time she makes her way home, we're not just excited to meet her, we feel like we've been missing her all along.

I really don't understand why Americans are going crazy over Della, but she is what she is. A bad written character who doesn't belong into the Duck family, but the writer's (unlike Rosa) are too stupid to realize that. Her addition results in the immediate tossing away of Donald which then happened.

I do disagree that the 3 brothers weren't distinct by the first season. It's definitely elaborated on _more_ in season 2, but they never felt like clones to me. Even by the pilot you can see how each of them idolizes something *different* about Scrooge that reflects their own personalities. Smarts, adventuring, riches. The episodes that delve into that more are some of my favorites, like Louie [spoilers] *Becoming the Richest Duck in the World(TM) through one of his schemes and it carrying over into the next episode, showing both him proving his incredible potential and also his childlike understanding that makes him not as good at it as Scrooge. Though even so with that episode, Scrooge has something to learn _from him_ too, it's great.
@inakamoto3 жыл бұрын
I agree. After season 1 was finished, I had a good read on all three nephews. Huey was the book-smart one, with a wide-eyed sense of wonder regarding new discoveries, while also prone to becoming flustered over not knowing everything, and not being the best at improvising during high-stress situations. Louie was the clever one, crafty and quick-witted, but also tended to be lazy, a little too obsessed with monetary values, and too often wanting to opt for the easy-street approach to problem solving. And then there's Dewey, passionate to a fault and eager to prove himself, while also being the dumbest out of the three of them, and being too much of a show off.
@TheGoldenSerpent Жыл бұрын
In the first 3 and half minutes of episode 1 their characterizations are shown. You might need to have the benefit of hindsight, but when they're all describing why they're excited to meet Scrooge, Dewey says he's epic, Huey says he's smart and Louie says he's rich.

Yeah because the way they portray Scrooge in this show is very interesting. They show from where he evolved from a past where he not only had to work hard for where he got to now but he also had a jaded, greedy side that sometimes he would lose sight of important things like family and friendship. All this ties into how he was depicted in the comics. And David Tennant does a great job at replacing the late Alan Young as the voice.

The biggest thing I loved in this show was Della Duck and Magica de Spell. Paget Brewster gave Della such an amazing personality. A mom that wants to prove herself to her kids. But at the same time, she's still kind of a dork by nature. She has a temper, she's a worry wart but at the same time a dareless adventurer. She has so much personality and is so loveable. At the same time Catherine Tate absolutely loves being the villain! Every line she says as Magica she relishes and loves. And then you have the absolutely wonderful chemistry that she has with David Tennant. Whenever they have scenes together, they work so well off of each other. And she kills at riding the line of loving aunt and full on villain who only cares about revenge. She's constantly emotionally manipulative towards Lena. But you feel bad for her when you listen to her tell why she hates Scrooge so much. These two ladies are my absolute favorite characters...AND THEN THERE'S MANNY!

One of my favorite things about the show is that it takes Scrooge's saying of "Tougher than the toughies, sharper than the sharpies, and smarter than the smarties!", and applies it to each duckling. Dewey, the focus of season one, wants to be a TOUGH adventurer. Louie, the focus of season two, wants to be SHARP and successful. And Huey, the focus of season three, wants to be known for how SMART he is.
@Jarod-vg9wq3 жыл бұрын
They all should have bigger character development.
@rachelespiritu42153 жыл бұрын
I do wish they'd have taken this a little further, or at least not wrapped them up quite so quickly. Dewey was handled the best, but also had the least complexity to his issues. I liked where they left his character, secure in his friendships and his place in the family, plus his ongoing rivalry with Don Karnage, and still working on himself. With Louie, I really wish they'd let him spend more time with Goldie and show them learning together to be compassionate as well as sharp. Wrapping his whole arc up in one episode with the Bombie seemed way too convenient. And Huey really needed more time with Bradford, being shown their similarities and having it shoved in his face how little his brothers understand him. It was a great thing to do in the finale, but it should have shown up like ten episodes sooner. We also really needed a moment to reflect on the fact that Bradford killed Buford and Bentley, something Huey would never do. But still, the fact that I was invested enough to have such nuanced criticism is kind of a compliment in itself.

Actually Disney's animation history tends to have a good track record than most for doing 'strong proactive females' that aren't incredibly bland and unfunny or built entirely around undermining the male gender. See Judy Hopps, Rebecca Cunningham, the 1998 Mulan, hell even the original Mrs Beakley was sometimes badass despite her funny dowager personality. Kind of ironic given Disney's famed for pushing the 'princess' cliche.

Thoughts: I loved it all the way through, since the announcement of the reboot and i was rewarded as such. I never saw the original because it stopped airing when i was little but i wanted to so bad. I couldn't find it anywhere dubbed in Greek, and when i found it years later dubbed, i thought it was for little kids, being a teenager and such, so i just tossed it aside (big mistake). So when the reboot was announced, it was like a gift for my younger self. I was on board from day one and i got what i asked for and more. I loved how it introduced me to so many amazing characters from all those cartoons i didn't watch as a kid and I loved every minute of them. I started watching gargoyles darkwing duck and the original ducktales because of the reboot, giving my younger self the cartoons he always wanted to watch. I really don't understand why Doug says the triplets were very close to being interchangeable in season one. There's literally an episode where they each go off to do their own thing in that season. Shoot, in episode 3, Webbie annoys each of the boys while on a trip to Funzo's but annoys them in different ways that relates to their specific characters. She ignores Huey's rules, ruin's Louie's scheme and erase's Dewey's fame. Another thing is that each season moreso focuses on a specific triplet. Season one is about Dewey, season 2 Lewey, and season 3 Huey. I 100% agree that they dropped the ball with Negaduck, it was such a perfect setup yet they failed to follow through with it, probably because they were hoping to bring him back in an actual show for Darkwing Duck. There are a total of 2 cartoons that I give a 10/10 throughout their entire running. Avatar the Last Airbender and this. What Avatar did for western fantasy cartoons, DuckTales 2017 did for cartoon reboots and modern Saturday morning adventure cartoons.

Negaduck was definitely set up for a later episode that just ended up not happening after Disney decided to not renew the show for a fourth season. Some people say that because the show technically wasn't cancelled that means it got to run its full course, but I don't think that's the case. There are plenty of indicators that the third season wasn't originally intended to be the last one, including plot threads just getting dropped. That being said, I think the way they ended the show was the best way they could have done it considering the situation. I have my own personal complaints regarding the show, especially some of the villains, but overall it did an amazing job of not only paying homage to the original Ducktales and the Carl Barks/Don Rosa comics, but creating an entirely new iteration of the Duck universe that's incredibly rich and vibrant.

He also has an animated Catwoman movie coming out that features Gargoyles voice actors Keith David and Jonathan Frakes.

As someone who grew up watching the original DuckTales, read the comics by Carl Barks and Don Rosa, I can honestly say that 2017 DuckTales, for the most part surpasses the original for all the right reasons. Adding Della Duck and keeping her with the cast was probably the biggest stroke of genius 2017 DuckTales had. This show took risks--hell, even the very idea of rebooting this show was a big risk in and of itself--and they were worth it. It did what a true reboot/remake should do: honor the original, while at the same time bring something new to the table.
@e-122psi33 жыл бұрын
I heard originally they wanted this series to be a direct sequel to the original but ditched that to be a standalone canon, which I feel was almost definitely for the best since it means it can be appreciated on its own merits and won't be nitpicked for every deviation it takes from the original (and it definitely feels like they wanted to do things very differently from the first show and even the comics sometimes).
@mas87053 жыл бұрын
In a time where a reboot either tries so hard they miss the intention of the original or try so little that it comes off as Titans Go (some say it’s gotten better over time, but I’m not going to try and dive back in any time soon), Ducktales nails that sweet spot near perfectly. Not only for it to be it’s own thing while capturing what made the original great, but also how it feels like it is a tribute for old fans who grew up watching the Disney shows. If we consider shows like Gravity Falls and Avatar to be some of the best shows of the modern time (or I guess what we would have called modern back when they came out), Ducktales is the approach that should be taken when you want to do a reboot series.
@YamiSpyroX3 жыл бұрын
I do miss this series but I am happy 'regardless of the unfulfilled plot-threads' that they give this series as big and full of conclusion that they gave it. And I am grateful that even though we don't see the boys's father we get their mom 'Della Duck'. (Great character) Meanwhile poor Spyro still doesn't know the identity of his own parents! (RIP Skylanders Academy.)

I disagree with your claim that all the characters start out the same. While they definitely do become more distinct as the show goes on early on I could still tell. Dewey: Is the most dim witted of the brothers and desire for glory. Louie: Is more apathetic, lazy, and greedy and would rather simply make money then earn it. Huey: The responsible one who needs things to make sense and add up

I disagree a bit, Louie was always lazier than the rest, wanted to be rich and wanted no responsibility. Dewey always wanted more attention, always wanted adventure and always wanted to be praised. And Huey was always the bookworm, always wanted to follow the rules and was always stubborn about doing things his way, while always having an answer. So, no, the boys were different from the start.... and their hobbies did show their differences. They just delved into it more in later seasons... but the boys were always different.... And it's less that I dislike the Webbie ending and more that I wish they teased it more early on.... like, it felt like it was out of nowhere.... we never felt like there was more to Webby's backstory other than maybe dead parents or something... And the ending didn't actually explain much because it was already shown early on that Webby was obsessed with Scrooge because she had an over protective grandma and was always stuck inside a house so her main entertainment was stories about Scrooge, and her first friends were Scrooge's nephews.... And also the fact that she felt lonely and had no other family, but because she lacked the blood bond, the only way she felt she could fit in was by learning the McDuck stories...

I really enjoyed this show, but I think my biggest problem with it was how one-note most of the characters were. After watching an episode for a few minutes, it was pretty easy to predict how each of them was going to respond to the situation and what their "arc" for that episode was gonna be. But then the characters wouldn't really change and grow over the course of the show, at least not compared to other modern Disney shows like The Owl House or Amphibia. But didn't bother me too much, because their personalities were still strong, and it was entertaining watching them interact off each other. It felt like the show mostly prioritized being an exciting adventure with fun characters over being anything super deep or insightful (though they definetly had those moments as well, especially whenever Della was involved), and I think they definetly succeeded with that vision. Also, in regards to the Negaduck tease, one of the writers for the show said that they tried squeezing him somewhere into the Darkwing Duck special, but they decided he deserved his own separate episode. But then the show wasn't gonna be renewed for a fourth season, so they had to quickly wrap everything up and didn't get a chance to use him. But there is gonna be a Darkwing Duck reboot on Disney+ (though it hasn't been confirmed if it's gonna tie into this DuckTales universe), so we might see him there

@historiaestmagistravitae.70513 жыл бұрын
I doubt very much that will happen. The classic versions of Huey, Dewey and Louie are too iconic to be replaced with the Ducktales 2017 version with which you have a few problems. No, those versions of HDL Duck in Ducktales 2017 were good, but there was a bad development of their characteristics, also their voices absolutely do not correspond to their age. With that change, they would lose what HDL was created for, to be together, and so is their gag. I know that many will not like this, but the original HDL is better for me, because at least there is not so much focus on them, and they were very naughty and smart boys who often agree and quarrel, but eventually reconcile. I agree that the Legend of the Three Caballeros should get the second season, but I doubt very much that it will happen. Of course, this is just my opinion.
