Hi Phil I’m a 63 year old retired male, so not your usual demographic. Had a bit of a stroke 3 years ago, but back to running now, and am not falling over anymore. Did the local, Wakefield, 10k yesterday, targeted 54 minutes, but followed your advice. I ran the mile (kilometre) I was in, not the race as a whole. I went for a negative split and ended up finishing in 52:30. Thanks for your help. Love the grind. Love your channel ❤

Video idea: for first time marathon runners, is their an easy way to make sure you are adequately fuelled during training/the race? Or is it just trial and error? I'm new to the whole fuelling during races, as I've mainly done 10 and 5 k races. I've not typically had a session so far where I feel "the effect" or benefit of a gel during a run
@PhilyBowden9 ай бұрын
I'd say, in terms of in-race fuelling: 1 gel 20 mins before starting, and then test out a gel/carb-source every 30-40 mins in long runs to start with and see how that goes. I'd say runs of 1:45+ is where you start to feel the benefit vs not fuelling

Yeah its been obvious from your videos for a while that you probably have ADHD. The reasons behind the life update also sound a bit ADHD-related based on the IG post. But as someone only undergoing the diagnostic process for ADHD (i.e. unmedicated for over 30 years) I'm so freaking jealous that you've been able to maintain running thos long and tl reach success. That's a freaking amazing achievement!
@PhilyBowden9 ай бұрын
aha yeah I dunno if I'll seek a diagnosis tbh, if it would lead to something helpful to maybe reduce some of the negative sides of how I function maybe. On the life update side of things, I don't think its ADHD-related, lots to unpack there and all I can really say at this point is some things aren't quite what they seem, definitely onto the right path now which is what matters!

Please don’t self diagnose. If you thought you had diabetes, you would go and get it checked out by a doctor, NOT go around telling people you have it. It’s fine to say you think you have something, but not even doctors can diagnose themselves.
@babishamgirl9 ай бұрын
Unfortunately diagnosis of diabetes is free in the UK, diagnosis of ADHD costs about £7000 if you pay yourself or can be a 6 year wait on the NHS. Self diagnosis of ADHD and Autism is valid and some research suggests it’s a fairly sensitive measure
@Laurap019 ай бұрын
@@babishamgirl It’s okay to say you think you have something and read about techniques to help, but telling people you HAVE something when you don’t is dishonest and deceiving. We often have a biased view of ourselves, it would never be an accurate or trusted assessment. And diagnosis is £500-£1000. Not sure where you got £7k from.
@babishamgirl9 ай бұрын
@@Laurap01 I think you’re wrong but that’s okay. And the £7000 includes private prescriptions, medicine reviews and everything else that is included in a private diagnosis. You seem really cross about this and rather defensive and I’m not sure why. If people want to say they’ve got ADHD or Autism then they can.
@Laurap019 ай бұрын
@@babishamgirl You can actually be referred back to your GP for medication etc. I’m cross because it causes problems for people actually diagnosed with these conditions. Fair enough if it was a small minority of people who, hypothetically, did actually have autism or ADHD but I think you are overestimating the intelligence of most people self diagnosing.
@babishamgirl9 ай бұрын
@@Laurap01 the evidence tends to be that people who self refer, wait the NHS times or pay themselves generally do have ADHD or Autism, but I can see that we’re not going to agree on the matter.

Text is here: Saying farewell to Team New Balance Manchester It's taken me a while to write this and as I do, I sit here with mixed emotions. In November 2022 @daniel_moves_and I sold our first home in Reading, and moved up to Manchester to join @teamnbmcr and to fully commit to my running goals. Without this big move, I probably would've never quit my full-time job as a civil servant, or learned how to fully support my running career through coaching, KZbin and starting a business with Daniel, my ride or die. I've loved putting running first, shaping everything I do around my running-week. I've learned from athletes far more experienced, talented and hardworking than myself and I hope l've taken on just a fraction of their commitment. I've made some friends for life and have come a long way in improving my own performances with their help. Alongside my departure from the team, l'm also closing a 4-year chapter with long-time coach, friend and mentor @clitherstherunner - Had I not connected with Helen back in 2020 | highly doubt l'd still be running today and I owe her a lot for helping me find my love for running again, regaining my confidence to compete, and for getting me well under way in the world of marathon running. Careers in running are short and now feels like the right time for a change to ensure I continue loving this sport and growing as a competitor. We'll be sticking around in t'North for the foreseeable, continuing to fund my running career through my coaching and content work. I remain fully committed to some lofty goals but will no longer have the kit and shoe support from a brand, for now. Most of all I'm excited for what's next and thankful for what has been
