I was always skeptical of the crime hysteria and then when I took some class about criminology that was taught by a old jaded police officer it only made my position more solidified. American Suburbanites are freaked out that they'll be trafficked or killed by MS13, when its about 10 times more likely that they'll be abused and killed by their own relatives. They agonize over home invasions when a whole family being killed in a murder suicide or domestic violence incident is statistically more likely to happen. When I was working EMS I can say the scariest calls before Covid were the ones related to domestic violence. A dude in a wifebeater with a gun or attack dog is pretty damn scary. Not to say gang violence doesn't happen, of course it does. But in the US specifically, it doesn't effect these people who live in White Affluent neighborhoods. Honduras and Mexico are very dangerous countries with a lot of narco violence, but its not happening here despite how many MAGA Boomers will be posting grisly cadaver images all over their Facebook.
@Backinblackbunny0092 жыл бұрын
Exactly, 90% of all violent crimes happen in neighborhoods where the medium annual income is below the poverty line. After I learned that stat I realized that everything I ever was told about crime was 99% obfuscation and propaganda

Search the old Chapo bit about the Villages. Some journo went down to this horrible gated community in Florida called the Village to talk to some of the suburban hogs. They interviewed some old dude and his equally ancient wife who always left their gated community strapped since they were convinced that everywhere outside of their little hog pen was basically anarchy because Obama let a bunch of Mexicans just flood over the border. Upper middle class piggies are just pathetic.

I seem to remember 90’s television was like 90% crime. I remember being like 10 years old and being terrified of crime after watching Unsolved Mysteries. I honestly thought someone was going to break into our house and slit my entire families throats for no reason. It’s fucking crazy to be reminded every now and then that really hasn’t gone away, it’s just that people live in different media bubbles and some of those are still in world similar to the 90’s TV world I lived in once if not worse, because you could honestly immerse yourself in this shit 100% of the time, at least when I was a kid there was a new Simpsons episode or whatever.
