Your close, but the thing that makes them a cult is adherence to cult rules. See verse 14 of the following passage (verses 16 and 25 are also helpful in identifying modern power cults): 13 And it came to pass that Akish gathered in unto the house of Jared all his kinsfolk, and said unto them: Will ye swear unto me that ye will be faithful unto me in the thing which I shall desire of you? 14 And it came to pass that they all sware unto him, by the God of heaven, and also by the heavens, and also by the earth, and by their heads, that whoso should vary from the assistance which Akish desired should lose his head; and whoso should divulge whatsoever thing Akish made known unto them, the same should lose his life. 15 And it came to pass that thus they did agree with Akish. And Akish did administer unto them the oaths which were given by them of old who also sought power, which had been handed down even from Cain, who was a murderer from the beginning. 16 And they were kept up by the power of the devil to administer these oaths unto the people, to keep them in darkness, to help such as sought power to gain power, and to murder, and to plunder, and to lie, and to commit all manner of wickedness and whoredoms. 17 And it was the daughter of Jared who put it into his heart to search up these things of old; and Jared put it into the heart of Akish; wherefore, Akish administered it unto his kindred and friends, leading them away by fair promises to do whatsoever thing he desired. 18 And it came to pass that they formed a secret combination, even as they of old; which combination is most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God; 19 For the Lord worketh not in secret combinations, neither doth he will that man should shed blood, but in all things hath forbidden it, from the beginning of man. 20 And now I, Moroni, do not write the manner of their oaths and combinations, for it hath been made known unto me that they are had among all people, and they are had among the Lamanites. 21 And they have caused the destruction of this people of whom I am now speaking, and also the destruction of the people of Nephi. 22 And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not. 23 Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain-and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be. 24 Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up. 25 For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people, for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies; even that same liar who beguiled our first parents, yea, even that same liar who hath caused man to commit murder from the beginning; who hath hardened the hearts of men that they have murdered the prophets, and stoned them, and cast them out from the beginning. 26 Wherefore, I, Moroni, am commanded to write these things that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men, but that they may be persuaded to do good continually, that they may come unto the fountain of all righteousness and be saved. -Excerpt is from Ether 8 in "The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ". I think she did the best thing ANY celebrity could make.. she didn't say who people should vote for, she told people to be sure to go vote and use their votes and put some thoughts into who and what yhey vote for. People are so upset she didn't come right out and throw her support behind Harris.. that's insane to me! She did exactly what anyone should do. And you can look at this girl and KNOW EXACTLY who she is going to vote for without her needing to say it! She also said people should vote small also. To actually get up and go vote for their smaller local elections not only on the big presidential vote. Those small local politicians are who will make the most direct impact on you, so be sure to participate in those elections as well and to do your own research and decide for yourself who you choose. This idea is how it always USED TO BE! There were ALWAYS celebrities encouraging people to vote, but normally they wouldn't shove a specific candidate down your throat! I'm old so I still remember MTV when is had Mrv news and music lol the big "rock the vote" campaigns they had to get people to vote and to get involved and do your job as an American citizen and go vote. But they didn't ever specifically sat which person to vote for or even who they were voting for, because that isn't really something people like to share outloud. Growing up in the Midwest I was raised to not speak about politics or religion to those I do not personally know and have a friendship with.. but to not go tell the world who I'm voting for or where my religious beliefs fell. I wish we could have ALL celebrities do this.. encourage people to do research of their own and go use their votes. Not only for the presidential election but ALL elections in your area if you wish to make changes you have to start with local politicians

Idk, the trans community I know is mad at her for saying there is no difference between the candidates on trans rights. That’s not really opinion. That’s so wrong I think it qualifies as misinformation. And she is probably just ignorant about the situation. But…that’s super annoying if she is claiming it’s her main issue and that she has done even three minutes of research and somehow come to the conclusion that they are the same. They are definitely not the same. And I get why that is scary and concerning and just plain aggravating to trans people.

This is especially true for non-American conservatives. For example here in Canada our Conservative Party would actually be considered more centrist by American standards, but if you say you're voting Conservative in Canada you'll still get people who think you're a Trump supporter or a conspiracy theorist. Canada's federal political structure is vastly different than America's and we have been stuck with the same Prime Minister for almost a decade despite his failures and almost statistically universal unpopularity. It's very bizarre. If you're an Aussie or Kiwi Conservative you'll get the same attitude from Americans, but Australia and New Zealand again have a very different political structure and different political parties with different names. Ditto with the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy... there are so many different ways to be "Conservative" in the world, but according to the internet, we're all just bigoted Republicans.

@@RebeccaMayeHoliday yeah, I’m first generation American. My grandparents fled Nazi occupation of Greece, grandpa deserted the Italian Air Corp because he couldn’t back the Fascists. Fled to Greece where he met my grandmother. While she was pregnant with my dad and uncle they fled to England then to America. The discourse around Chapell is truly so discouraging and sad. She's an independent thinker and they hate it. She doesn't want to do have to fall in line just because she's famous. I wish her fans could look up to her for that.

She’s perfectly valid in saying that both sides are flawed, because they fundamentally are. That doesn’t mean one thing or the other, it means she’s in the middle. I’m personally in the middle because I dislike things on both sides, and like things on both sides, it’s that simple.

what yall call "political left" in the USA is easily perceived as moderate conservadorism anywhere else in the world. in any democracy, the usian democratic party would be considered rightwing, and there would be actual strong leftwing parties to the left of it. make no mistake: the "left" that is criticizing Chappell Roan dislikes her for not being conservative enough. Chappell is 100% correct in every statement she made so far.

I actually got the Oct/Nov Rolling Stone magazine and stumbled upon her interview in it. Needless to say, I appreciated the way she stood her ground. People with differing opinions have been silenced for too long. Discourse needs to be encouraged if we are to get anywhere.

I used to love Chappell Roan when I first found her music... AND I LOVE HER EVEN MORE FOR THIS. Queer people do not owe the left their vote. NOBODY owes the left their vote. That's what's amazing about the USA, people don't all have to do the same thing. I'm so incredibly proud of Chappell for speaking how she actually feels politically and not feeling obligated to follow mainstream expectations, and I think it's refreshing to see an artist stand up to the industry. Even though I don't agree with a lot of her political beliefs, I still love her music, love her as a person, and love the fiery responses she gives anyone who tries to tell her how she should feel

As a gay dude myself, I've been criticized so much (from the left) for being libertarian and having more conservative than liberal views. Sure, there are things on the right that I do not agree with, but their important values line up with mine so I just don't agree with the left as much. We already have gay rights, so what's the point of expanding it? It's not important for our country and there are bigger issues at hand like immigration.

Oh, good to see you made a video on this T-T The other person I tried to watch started the video by saying he was centralist and then insulted the right ._. Like sir. Your left leaning. He also said the right isn't willing to have a calm sit down talk right before calling the entire right racists, sexist, homophobes and what not. Like buddy. You can only have those conversations only if you have the mutual respect to listen to each other. And that was not respectful at all. Like I got lots of friends on the left. Do I hate them and disrespect them?? No??? I have respect for my all my friends! If we wanted to have a conversation on politics, I think we could have one without screaming at each other! (hopefully. I don't like talking politics) But yeah, I'd like to just say I like how you don't care about people pollical beliefs when it comes to enjoy people's music and what not :)

I feel like one thing that has been forgotten is how to think critically. It does not matter what side you are on, you should be able to recognize faults, do your research, and come to your own conclusions. That is what Chappell Roan does, whether you agree with her or not. She knows what she believes, and she stands for it unwaveringly with brutal honesty in one hand and determination in the other. She truly thinks like a modern rockstar, and that’s why I love her, even though I don’t agree with everything she stands for. EDIT: I actually made this comment before watching the full video and I’m so happy to hear her talk about in her TikTok’s critical thinking and how she thinks it’s important to critique both sides of the spectrum. That’s why I love her so much
