Johnny Doe Too True, I just had to replace my AllWinner A13 as my son cracked the screen with is elbow... Until then I never had an issue with it. Was faster and more reliable than my girlfriends Arnova 10B G3 tablet, And is better than this £210 Chimp tablet we got. Total junk. Slow and hot all the time. £35 AllWinner A13 beat's £210 tablet and Arnova which aint to cheap either.

I think the story of suicides at Foxconn is blown out of proportion. Imagine, about half the electronics of Western companies is made by Foxconn, another half by Flextronics! It's close to one million workers! In the meanwhile, dozens of suicide cases are known of. This seems like a staggeringly low number. I do not want to divulge the specifics, as this would potentially de-anonymise me, but at a major car manufacturer in Germany, there are a couple thousand employees at a plant, a few dozen are at a psych ward of the local hospital at any given moment, and certainly one or two suicides happened too. Now what, is German car manufacturing a source of suicide? It certainly seems larger proportion by number. It's merely that nowhere in the world will you see such a conglomeration of people working directly for one company in one place. As to installing suicide nets, well, they caught nobody before they were installed, and they won't catch anybody after; it will just make jumping off the roof not so compelling where these are installed, so company has to deal less with suicide cases, and they become somebody else's problem instead. It has nothing to do with people and their well-being. You cannot stop a person who is bent on ending their mental suffering, not by such means. People are not lemmings or birds, they are intelligent creatures, for good or for ill. In comparison, in EU countries, about 60-200 people will commit suicide per million of population every year, see WHO figures, for example 82 for Netherlands. Over the course of time that Foxconn has been in the press, you would correspondingly expect hundreds of their workers to commit suicide even if they were less suicide-prone than an average European.

jctoad be careful when you charge, must use the original battery charger when the supplier ship the tablet pc to you. And now for quad core under 500pcs, it is around USD32-USD32.50/PC; when the order over 500pcs, then for USD30.00/PC can get it.

I love this tablet. The Chinese are well on their way and they have dramatically improved in their standards of quality. 20 years ago, an operation of this caliber would not be staged in such a clean and well organized facility. Conditions would be pretty harsh on the product assembly and the workers, in turn helping to cripple the final product. Also, their technology has come a long way. I have no complaints about this tablet except that they need to revise the documentation and software regarding this tablet. I would also like to say I have dropped my tablet (This tablet) on the sidewalk twice as well as dropped it down carpeted stairs. The casing only slightly scarred separated which I was easily able to snap back into place. I toss this tablet everywhere and beat it up on a day to day basis. It has lived up to the test and is still running fine. However, this tablet is especially susceptible to data corruption of the ROM either by ungraceful shut down of the tablet, or faulty apps. They need to make restoring the factory defaults of the tablet easier with easy to read and plain English (or regional marketed language) instruction on how to restore it.

i own one of these tablets bought for 30.10usd free shipping and that was with fast shipping took 5 days to get here the tablet pc is really really good for what i payed for it and the camera and sound are not bad on it sound better then ipad 2 and takes better photos then ipad 2 i love it only downside is i only get 1hrs 30mins to 3hrs battery life but i can live with that since the price is really good

Today, most devices use BGA ICs with hidden connections and multi-layer boards with buried VIA, so you cannot perform modifications. These cheap tablets in contrast give the consumers unique opportunity to interfere with their workings, modify and extend them, if they so desire, because every signal line is accessible. I think i need a few of those for this reason. Extra thanks to Olimex company of Bulgaria for publishing the video DAC schematic and their Linux work, although i wonder why they didn't go for R/2R architecture with buffer?

Very good insight and information ! Thanks ! === As a westerner I would like to request design a better next-gen model; to add stereo front-facing speakers, which will enhance the multimedia experience of those tablets. A tablet is not something disposable that I will throw away in the next 6 months, so people can use it not just for internet browsing but also for better quality video and audio playing. Adding stereo will add costs, but the end-user experience difference is *huge*.

Gamer King I am from Mexico, supposedly a lot better in wages than China yet regular (non technicians nor specifically skilled) laborers barely make around $20 USD a day. It is surprising to acknowledge such good conditions in China, by the way do you happen to know how could I as westerner move to get employed in one of those factories? Here I am living on less than $ 20 USD a day even being bilingual and it is really tough.....

Well, 30$ is the price you have to pay if you get it directly from the factory, and only if you order atleast 300 pcs as i read in the description :D I payed 32€ (44$) for my green one with dual camera. It depends where you buy it, and if that shop want to milk your money, or sell it for a fair price.

It happens in every country - When I was growing up in NZ we had factories just like these, I worked in a few when I was in my teens. Fast paced, and the faster you work the faster the day seems to go. I see some workers in the video with headphones so you can listen to music/audio books which is good :)
