That was easier than using EA's system.. and IT WORKED!!!! LOLZ. I think Telsa opening up there Supercharger Network will be an awesome thing.. for them and us. It's another revenue stream. The only downside would be having there Superchargers clogged with Non Tesla's That could be handled by Cuing.. that could be done in the app. It could assign you a charger and tell you which one to connect to when it is available.

The other networks had better get their act together once Tesla opens up the Supercharger network. And for that matter, any other manufacturers that add a Tesla socket to their offering will have a massive competitive advantage. Volvo EV60 Cross Country with NACS 🤞

After the price drop, it would make sense to open up the super chargers to CCS. The 2 reasons people dont get EVs is price (now reduced) and issues with range/charging. If all cars can charge on all networks, charging/range becomes a non-issue, and more people will make the switch. The USA has reached 5%+ ev adoption, its set to expand tremendously. Even if tesla loses some market share, they'll sell a lot more cars if more and more people switch to EVs.

I am not sure we will see the same performance a Tesla gets from a SuperCharger in other CCS vehicles. I have a Tesla wall charger at home and R1T charges at half the speed (18mph) compared to 35 mph for a model S. Makes me wonder if there is some sort of throttling that happens when an adapter is detected.

Everybody keeps talking about Tesla opening up the Supercharger network but how is it going to work in real life? Superchargers have short cables designs for a Teslas charging location. Most cars don’t have the charging location in the right spot of the car to even reach. I see a future of blocked superchargers and parking in the wrong spot for cars to be able to charge unless Tesla comes out with new hardware.

This is super cool Branden. As a Tesla owner I wouldn't mind the network opened up. It would be more money in the bank. I'm really curious how Tesla is going to handle opening up their Superchargers in North America. We're seeing more and more hints of its arrival and there are so many questions! Will there be magic docks everywhere all at once? Will there be an adapter? Will it be as simple as the current CCS adapter but in reverse, or will it be a cable extender from the dispenser? Will Tesla implement a time limit to non-Teslas to keep them from camping out? How do European Tesla owners feel about seeing non-Teslas at Superchargers?

I think more level 2 at places like shopping, theaters etc. makes a lot of sense. As a Model Y owner, I will confess to some ambivalence about opening the Supercharger network up. I would be more open to it if I felt like CCS operators were a part of the solution....but the quality of their charging experience doesn't seem to be adding comensurate value to the overall ev charging experience. Why is it Tesla's responsibility to always solve problems that they had no part in creating. They are, for the most part, keeping their own charging house in order.

I need the ability to limit the speed of the DC fast charge if the usage at the site is under 70%. Many times, I would like to purchase just enough energy to make it home. I might only need 15kWh. By the time I use the facilities and return to the car, I may have already taken 20 or more kWh from the charger. I have no skin in this game, yet but I don’t see any reason why Tesla needs to ‘open up “ their charging network.. I presume that Tesla designed, built, installed, leased or paid for the land, and paid for their charging Superchargers. I presume that Tesla included the costs of their charging facilities into the price of their cars and each Tesla owner/customer has paid into the system. If you liked that system and bought a Tesla, the network was part of the reason for your purchase. Now we have individuals who for a variety of reasons, did not buy a Tesla but a competing brand that uses a CCS system. Unfortunately, the CCS charging systems are not anywhere as good as Tesla’s system and the EV CCS folks would like to use Teslas Superchargers because they would not have to put up with the inadequacies of the CCS chargers and the pathetic broken units found all across the USA. The none Tesla owners were duped into thinking that all of the charging companies were equal and they are not. Let the buyer beware! If Tesla opens up their Superchargers to all CCS cars then the owners should pay the initial cost that all Tesla owners paid in their vehicle cost. If not, then the price of the electricity bought at the Superchargers should be prorated to incorporate that cost differential. If Tesla opens up its Superchargers to all what will be the incentive for the CCS charger companies to improve their miserable current service? Who are the winners and who will be the losers? If you travel extensively or you need to charge at Superchargers, then buy a Tesla!

Here's my 2 cents. Tesla would be crazy to open up their network to non Tesla's at this point. Caveat..... I own a MYP, have a Rivian on order so I would love Tesla to open up. Caveat #2, Tesla shareholder, and as a shareholder, do not want the network opened up. Tesla just cut pricing and is in a competition war with the upcoming EV's. What is the ONE thing they have over their competition? The supercharger network. They put the pressure on with the pricing, but need to keep the pressure on with the competitors that they lack public charging, Why would you give the competition the one thing they lack? Brandon, you as so biased. If you owned a Tesla, would you want them to open up? If you had your life savings in Tesla stock, would you want them to open up? These are fair questions. To whom benefits Tesla opening up? Yes, Yes the mission... but Tesla put this network in, and Tesla should self preserve in these upcoming economic challenges. I am second guessing my Rivian order for only one reason..... charging. I road trip my Tesla. It is soooo painless road tripping in my Tesla. . Can I road trip in a Rivain in my area? Not without issues, so it sucks. KZbin is full of public charging pain. Brandon kinda makes a living stirring up this controversy, but I see this all over the web these same headaches. This is Tesla's time to show why you shouldn't buy anything but a Tesla. My Rivian timeframe is Q3. It Tesla open's up, it's a done deal and will get the Rivian. If not.......... We'll see, but it's not looking promising. The fact that this is my thinking should be an eye opener for Tesla

@@brandenflasch For WHO? Economic sense for Tesla? N have no idea. But what I do know as a consumer looking to buy one of the competitors, would I buy if it wasn't opened up? NO. I have used both those networks in my area. They suck. Should I sell my Tesla for a Rivian? Right now, HARD no. Q3... ? If things don't change...NO Tesla should stand their ground. They have their competition dominated in the charging space, and now also in price.

I highly doubt that
@chriswestenskow5202 Жыл бұрын
I think the key is that Tesla will be very selective in regard to which superchargers they open to all, much like they are in Europe. The easiest ones to open up will be the new V4 locations which can be designed with more stalls and connectors to support all models. The next easiest would be those further away from population centers that are currently very underutilized. The busy stations in the metropolitan areas would seem to be very unlikely to ever get opened to other makes of cars since they are already a scarce resource as it is.

Speculating that Tesla will roll out this non-Tesla AC/Level charging option to Superchargers before rolling out CCS. Get the Telsa faithful use to seeing the unwashed CCS/CHAdeMO cars using Telsa network but not impact their ability to charge. Gives Tesla time to meet some of the Fed funding guidelines while figuring out an optimal rollout for CCS charging. Also proavtively dampen the foreseeable Tesla faithull outburst from a few when the CCS heathens arrive.
