Lol, the poor weak Rivian. The point of the Cybertruck is that it probably would have been undamaged in both crashes, or if it was damaged it would be a matter of removing and replacing the damaged panel for way less than $10,000. But at least this second crash, almost certain the wall would sustain the only damage.

umm yea ev's are garbage how much time was wasted charging during that 2000 mile trip? also ev's will make the polution problem even worse. we will have to burn far more coal if everybody had one. and the spent batterys will just end up in poorer nations land fills cuz thats what recycling is. we do it with palstic you think any company is will actually recycle them prorperly if its not profitable. you still get more energy from a gallon of gas then what we would get from a battery. and from a logicstics standpoint a company would need far more ev's trucks then conventional ones just to keep up with the just intime delevery system. seems like a huge waste of resources. not to mention if a ev manufacture gos out of business or ends product support all you have is brick. a car that wont drive. let alone making any mods to it. ohh you missed your payment the car will drive itself back.

I do that radiator & trans fluid on time, every time, in both cars. I run Lucas Oil through the gas tanks to clean the injectors, get more power, and save fuel. At 150k and 190k miles, both cars engines purr and trans shifts perfectly on both the CVT automatic and the 5 speed manual. 2010 Pontiac Vibe (made in Fremont before sold to Tesla) and a 2013 Mazda 5 (sliding doors). About the newest cars you can get with no infotainment screen. I see these heaps and I'm glad I'm not the one putting work in. lol.

Price out a Mercedes repair sometime from the dealership. Pretty much any $90,000 vehicle isn't going to be cheap to fix. Body on frame is inefficient and old school. It's time for an upgrade. Granted the protruding bumper thing is true though.

It’s not expensive to fix the body because it’s an EV. It’s expensive because it’s a low volume car with everything that goes with that. Same like if you needed repair on any low volume car. Look up body repair on the most recent NSX and compare that to any other Acura. The official recommendation is to ship your NSX back to Ohio for repair work.

Hi Rich, long-time viewer. So that truck is an American-made v w. And it came with a naturally-aspirated diesel and like me somebody put in a 1.9 l turbo diesel. They are great engines with taking care of and actually are pretty quick in the realm of diesel-powered vehicles. They never came with disc brakes on the rear and probably the issue you might have on the brakes is finding the right Master brake cylinder. I did one in a Jetta and ended up using a 90s model or late 80s GTI. The air filter is super hard to get and you have to get it out of a Jetta or go with something aftermarket. They exhaust manifold, well who knows what they did there it went out the back and down through the bottom with a flex hose or a exhaust pipe Bell fitting with spring clamps. Yes the little Volkswagen diesel has a pretty good resale probably still on that Turbo. And those reww they call them caddies have a following out there too specially in areas were then out all rusted to pieces. There's a guy up close by you by the name of Smythe performance I think who makes conversions for all the different Volkswagen cars into little trucks plus many other American sedans into pickup trucks. They Supply a complete bed kit to turn a golf and later models into a pickup truck. He might be helpful to you on the repair of that bed and any modifying or doing. Seems like a really nice guy and has a Facebook Channel. I hope that helps you Bose parts for the shifter and all of that are way cheaper and available out of San Diego at it by a place called metric man don't know if they're still there.

Lol not to be salty, but I have 45k miles (on routes that vary from 50 to 150 miles) length and 3500 hours driving an Amazon van. Never had an incident. Interestingly your acceleration, cornering, braking, speed, and seatbelt compliance are monitored. Plus there is an AI camera that monitors your eyes on the road, following distanced, complete stops at stop signs, and can read speed limit signs. If the camera sees a red light - even if you entered the intersection on yellow that is an infraction. All this is tied to your bonus which at my company constitutes about 1/6 of my paycheck. Besides all the hours on the road, the monitoring I believe has improved my driving. So yes, I see incidents multiple times a week with other drivers from my company, but I’d say the long time drivers, are likely quite good drivers, very likely “better” than an average driver who only commutes to work and who’s paycheck isn’t tied to their every moment driving.

Way back in the '70s, the insurance companies got good and torqued off at the auto manufacturers for the cars suffering so much damage in light collisions, and thus begat the 5mph bumpers in 1973. And the repair bills weren't 37K either. I wonder if history will repeat itself.

Hi Rich I had an 80 Rabbit diesel that I drove 200k mile s or so. A couple of things I learned the hard way. 1) is the serpentine timing belt had something like a 30k replacement schedule, and it should be respected-- how do I know-- valves making contact with the top of pistons is a bad thing. 2) idler wheel bearings fail hard with no notice + see # 1! 3) the thermostat fails at random fairly often. 4) the stock aluminum / plastic radiator was total junk--too small and prone to failure. they made an after-mart all copper oversize one that worked good in Vegas where I had it. 5) the plug for the fan /would fail and give you intermittent fan operation check that. 6) the heater core rotted out / failed early --probably why it is in bypass. 7)The fuel fill was always Slow and BAD --- that clear hose is what lets the foam out to the filler neck and it needs to be routed with lots of love. Still, Always painful to fill. 8) It got a consistent 50 mpg --- I once drove it to La Paz, Baja Cal took the ferry to the mainland on down to Puerto Vallarta and then back to Vegas for under $100 in fuel. for 3500 miles. Have fun.

Hmm, either my handbook and my local VW shop were lying or the wikipedia page does, because my 1985 mk2 diesel (built in Germany) had a timing chain. Even the handbook told me to "get the chain checked at 200k km" (about 125k miles) which I did, and it consisted of one of the mechanics coming out of the shop, listening to the engine running and telling me "well, it does run perfect, what do you want me to do?" So, the timing belt with a 30k replacement schedule... well... that's about a quarter of what I was told. Drove that one to 235k km (that's about 145k miles), average consumption was normally about 5l/100km (47mpg), but I got it down to 3.5l/100km (67mpg) on long journeys. It was the most reliable car I ever had. The only thing it didn't like was cold starts below -20C (-4F).

Some of my Marine buddies thought it was funny to pick up the front end of that truck when I would try to leave the area. The last time they ever did it I grabbed a snow brush I had in the truck because I was from up north, eh. Anyway, while those guys were holding up the front of my truck I took the snow brush and wedged it on the throttle with it in gear, then stepped out and started walking away. That was a bunch of Marines that pooed on themselves. Good times! They never did that to me again.

The Cybertruck will have 2 layers per side of tempered stainless steel that is 3mm thick each. Typical body steel is not tempered or stainless and is about a small fraction of that. The armour on an M4 Sherman tank was as thin as one layer of 4mm crude industrial use carbon steel for reference. I believe that in the instance of a collision the design flaw will be revealed in the other vehicle.

My well-used 2010 Fiat Panda 1.3 16 valve turbo diesel had a broken cam chain. But inlet manifold was full of soot from the EGR valve. So that meant a head off to clean it. And… there was a stuck injector. I pulled the crank and found oil control piston rings were full of soot. But new rings, cam chain rockers and lifters and off it went. Also fitted new oil seals and new clutch. Brakes fully overhauled with braided hoses. New suspension, and slightly wider wheels. Does it go or what! The claimed 70bhp feels like 100. It remaps to 95bhp which should be awesome.

I had no idea this thing even existed. A friend of mine had an old Mazda rotary powered small pickup he used as a shop vehicle for picking up parts. It had a few modifications and man that thing was a hoot! Screaming 8000 plus RPM engine, RWD, it was actually pretty quick for what it was. That is what I would love to see him get, I don't think he has done anything with a rotary engine, and they are certainly unique, interesting, and a lot of fun.
