Gimmicks can still have purpose, regardless of if it is in fact a gimmick. I think the masks are a good example of that. It’s something that is a staple of this band, they are known for it. But the reason they started doing it is still valid.

In my opinion Slipknot is one of the best metal bands ever (I'm a maggot (that how they call their fans, not as an insult though. That name was made by "Clown" referring to the people in the crowd moshing and everything kinda look like a bunch of maggots from above the stage) but I also listen to a lot of other metal bands for sure) About the masks, this is how they started, kinda not wanting to make a fuzz about their identities, but to let the music speak for itself and be the most important part of their band. Usually they change their masks after every album, some of them change entirely, while other members prefer to upgrade their original masks each time. Also there are nine members in this band: Corey Taylor as the Lead Vocalist, Mick Thompson and James Root on the guitars, Jay Weinberg on the drums (until 2013 it was Joey Jordison, who, as you know, sadly passed away recently), Shawn "Clown" Crahan and "Tortilla Man" at the Percussions (before Tortilla Man joined there was Chris Fehn, the guy who walked through the crowd in the video, but he left the band), "V-Man" on the Bass (before it was Paul Gray, who sadly died in 2010), Sid Wilson is the "Dee-jaaaay" in the band, as he likes to say it and then there is also Craig, who is in charge of sampling and the piano. Personally I would recommend you to watch "Snuff", the acoustic live version of Corey Taylor (my favourite song ever), the mv for "The Devil In I" and maybe the mv for "Unsainted", a song from their most recent album. I really enjoy your videos, you seem like a very nice and cheerful person, keep it up Charis 🙃

(As someone already suggested) The live, acoustic version of “Snuff” would be a great song to hear Corey (great lyrics as well). However, if you want to do a music video “The Devil in I” is probably not the one to start with. I’d suggest “Vermilion” or “Killpop” if you want to ease in. If you like those then maybe crank it up. If you want to jump right to “The Devil in I” maybe familiarize yourself with the lyrics and know that the video doesn’t really portray the lyrics. People new to Slipknot often get stuck on the video itself and don’t really pay attention to the song.

I'm from the same area they came out of. "Duality" is a must watch music video. It's a bit darker, but what looks like a hell of a set is really exactly what it looked like. The people were all fans, some from as far away as the eastern European countries. The whole thing was improve by the fans except what happened immediately around the band. Before the Iowa CD dropped, I met Corey and Mick in a music shop. They were still in a dark place, Iowa has the effect on people that makes most of us fight like hell to leave. But those guys said hi and were still friendly and if you respect them, as a basic human right, you'll be accepted as a good person. Don't bug them or fawn when they're out, they will initiate a prolonged interaction if they can. They have seen lots of tragedy and growth and only get better. I hated their music when they first came out. But it saved my life and kept my spirit from breaking in my worst times. Love to them, you and all my fellows in the 515 and any Maggot out there rocking it!

Joey was one of if not the best drummer in the world, that amount of drums on his kit right there was like child's play to him

Subscribed for more Slipknot! Definitely try snuff acoustic next for full spectrum experience. Then just jump down the rabbit hole and enjoy! I think what you were expecting from them you will find on their first album, but they all are amazing! I dare you to do a full album reaction! Who else thinks she’ll become a maggot? I’ll be seeing them live Tuesday for the 3rd time here in Tampa. By far my favorite band since 1999! Great reaction, looking forward to more Slipknot!
