At 26:36, you have the threaded pin backwards. The cut slots go outward to allow a screwdriver to hold it while tightening the sideplate screw. You were lucky on that valve, I've tried tape, rubber, nothing will hold mine tight enough to allow me to get it to come apart. The plier jaws did a pretty good job strafing the checkvalve surface though... I may try it again with leather, perhaps an old belt. The screw was also cross-threaded into it, but a tap salvaged it enough to where the screw will hold.
@CHARLESCRANFORD10 ай бұрын
I have watched that part five times and I am still not sure what threaded pin you are referring to. Is it the pin that the trigger pivots on?
@stevekurzban935210 ай бұрын
The big pin that goes through the receiver and holds the rear plug. Freeze frame at that timestamp, it's already installed.
@CHARLESCRANFORD10 ай бұрын
@@stevekurzban9352 Okay I think I see what you are talking about. During disassembly, at around 10:00 you can see me wondering if it goes in one way or the other. Reassembling at around 21:49 you can see me fumbling with it and it seamed like it would only go in the way I put it in, but I was able to put it in backwards somehow. If one of the screws got stuck in there, it would be hard to get it out without access to the slotted part of the pin. I am surprised the pin isn't slotted on both ends. But, when I was disassembling, that part, I didn't need to hold the pin to be able to take the screw out, I got lucky. I was mainly taking video of taking this apart for my own use in case I couldn't remember how something went together. Thank you for pointing this out. Hopefully your comment will help someone figure out how to fix there air gun.

That was great. Hey, can you tell me what the decibel level is with that crosman 761? I was just wondering if I could use it on rats in my yard without freaking out my nosey neighbors.
@CHARLESCRANFORD Жыл бұрын
If you have nosey neighbors, this is not the gun for you. Only using three pumps might be okay, but you won't have the power to humanely kill rats. If you knew you could git one good shot and then act like you didn't hear anything, maybe. There are some new air riffles with built in sound dampening, that are almost as quiet as a Red Ryder, but have more power than a fully pumped up (loud) 761. Good luck with your nosey neighbors.

@CHARLESCRANFORD Жыл бұрын
Is it puffing, when you pump or hissing, after it is pumped. The puffing, with the pump in the open position, is it letting air in, and is normal. Hissing, after it is pumped is not normal. If that is the case, you may have a damaged seal or damage to the metal/brass parts of the gun.
@tylerparker3024 Жыл бұрын
When i pump it slow, it gives one quick puff. And builds no pressure. It sounds like it could be puffing it right out of the barrel maybe. I may just buy a new air chamber for it or whatever its called and replace the whole thing i was just hoping to save the origional parts with it being an older model. But im not sure which ones will work with it. Its got the brass internals, brass bolt, i think its the self cocking version from what ive read. Its labeled as a powermaster instead of the later pumpmaster.
@CHARLESCRANFORD Жыл бұрын
@@tylerparker3024 Did everything move smoothly and did all the parts look clean? It does sound like the cup seal is not working properly. Sometimes oil can gunk up inside the parts and keep them from moving freely. You might be able to clean the parts and get them moving freely again without having to replace the old parts.
@tylerparker3024 Жыл бұрын
I cleaned everything pretty good when i had it apart. And replaced the pump cup. Maybe the air is still getting around that cup. Its difficult to tell where the puff of Air is really coming from.

Great rebuild, but you ordered the wrong piston. Your gun has the older "flat head" valve, which used an adjustable flat head piston. The later valves had a conical head, which used a piston with a pump cup. You used the later piston with pump cup, which will create some headspace and won't allow you to build as much pressure.
@CHARLESCRANFORD2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this information. I was mainly wanting to get it back to working condition, which the new parts did. It has been a while since I did this, but I thought that the pistons looked the same. Maybe the gun had been resealed before.

A pick would be best. If you don't have a pick, use a large sewing needle. Instead of picking around the edge of the o-ring, push the pick or needle into the o-ring and pry it out. You will damage the o-ring, but you will be replacing it anyway. Thank you for the comment. Good luck.

CHARLES CRANFORD I found the spring where I dropped it in my tool drawer. I found all the O-rings needed in the correct sizes at Lowe’s in the plumbing section. All I need now is the compression pump rubber cap. I didn’t like the way the sight mounting holes were drilled all the way through into the bore of the rifle barrel. I removed the sight screws, removed the barrel, sanded the paint off the barrel near the sight mounting screw holes, inserted a nail into the bore of the barrel to be beneath the holes, heated up the barrel at the s red holes with a propane torch and melted lead into those screw holes until it stuck properly and cooled it down and sanded the lead fill smooth. I took the nail out and checked the inside of the barrel to make sure no lead was partially blocking the bore. Then I sanded, primed and painted the barrel black. I wasn’t going to use iron or plastic sights anyway, I have a red dot sight I want to use. Crosman sent me the contact information for their repairman in Virginia, I guess I can get the rubber pump cap from him. It looks very much like a fuel injector cap so I might find a suitable replacement at an auto parts store.
