I do remember seeing this movie as a kid and thinking that the green uniformed cheerleaders seemed oddly sidelined in the story. They’re introduced like they’re going to be a big deal, then I think they have one clip where they get funding from an Oprah-type character to go to a championship, then suddenly it’s the end of the movie, and it just always felt like they had a whole story that everyone in-universe knew, but it just…wasn’t in the movie?
@johnathanbowers543311 ай бұрын
lol what? You should re-watch the movie. The plot is entirely centered around how the Toros have been *stealing* their cheers for the better part of 3 years and they’re gonna make a come back on their own and they refuse Torrence’s help in every capacity. Theres plenty of character development in Ice (Gabrielle union) as she goes from being someone who sees things in a black and white way (her inability to accept help) to realizing that she can’t do it alone. Is it all about her? No. Are the Clovers a forgotten or underwritten B plot? I’d argue also no.

This is actually a fact she wasn’t lying they only wanted to give the illusion that the clovers were in the movie more because the audience wanted to see more of them but they didn’t want to go back and actually film more scenes with them so they just made the illusion that they were gonna be in the movie more than they actually were just look at the trailer versus the actual movie

Let’s stop saying people are overreaching when she actually experienced it… not us… even as a viewer the clovers were the highlight of the movie… and definitely the more entertaining team all color aside… I would of preferred to see clovers have more screen time since they made the clovers a main factor in the movie over Torrance’s love life that had absolutely nothing to do with anything 😂😂😂

But let's be honest. Studios do stuff purely to have black support from black people so that they can make their movie more famous or just sell better. One example being the Little mermaid, the actress while she was on stage literally said one time that the director reached out to her and I think due to the success of Black panther studios realized that black support was an actual thing and it did so good because it was Marvel having a full black cast and studios. Especially Disney wants a capitalize on this and when they brought Marvel they thought that they could just do it all over again with the Little mermaid. So I mean like it's not too far out of reach and this was like the early 2000s the peak of online gamer boy rages racism

Ya’ll are wild. The early 2000’s were full of overt and covert racist undertones. We hear about it more and more from actors who are Gabrielle’s age today. Preserving and promoting whiteness has always been a priority in a lot of movies /productions back then. People of color whose careers were getting started around the late 90s and early 2000s always have stories about the climate being on set, being treated differently, no one knowing how to do their make up, or hair, micro aggressions, etc. White people, just because you are not a person of color, doesn’t mean you can’t at least try to imagine how it must have felt for a person of color, especially back then. Things have never been all rainbows and unicorns for racial minorities now and especially not back then. The casual brush off of social problems like this is never something to do. Where is your critical thinking and empathy?

I dont like how this guy presented her case. It was incredibly biased and sorta took what she was saying out of context, by stating other peoples opinions and his own rather than what she actually said. She wasnt grasping for straws, and she did not have equal screentime at all. The greens were barely in the movie and everyone noticed it when they went to see the actual movie. They literally had like 3-4 non-cheer/speaking scenes, so like 6-7 scenes in total if we're counting the competition scenes. Im pretty sure theyre screen time was roughly equal to Torrance's ex boyfriend. The film focused on the Torros, and we barely saw anything of the Clovers. I get what shes saying, i think people are just misinterpreting it.

The way you reported this is highly weird… this isn’t an up for a debate thing and you saying “bashing the movie that started her career” and that slick a$$ comment you made at the end to “see the other side” is extremely f:cking ridiculous. You can’t “see the other side” for racism. The films marketing for the movie even when it first came out made it seem as tho both the clovers and torros were gonna get the same screen time. Ik a lot of ppl who wanted to see it just cause Gabriel Union was in it cause she is a well known actor before bring it on, so your comment about this movie being “the start of her career” is BS and very undermining of her hard work shes been putting in for years prior. Not surprised tho cause yall constantly undermined black women and god forbid they speak up on the mistreatment they experience. One if not the most important plot/lesson of the story was regarding racism and how the torros previous captain was stealing routines from the underprivileged black/brown school that couldn’t afford to go to nationals even tho they have the talent. That’s literally the plot of the film. Besides the side love plot and the obvious cheering, the film had something to say and a message about racism. Mind you this movie was also in the early 2000s to late 90s where social awareness about minorities was not a thing. Slurs, fat shaming and yes RACISM was a very prevalent thing in Hollywood media, look at any early 2000s. So her letting yall know it was a race thing shouldn’t be up for debate cause it definitely was. You mention she “tested better for the cheers” and such, so why market it like it was a film with equal (honestly if not more for Gabriel) screen time for both actors? Right. It’s a bigger issue than just “I’m an actor and I wanna be on camera more” it’s an underlying issue of blatant racism. And honestly even if it was just the fact that she wanted more screen time she had every right to make that statement cause shes also one of the main faces on the cover of the movie, the trailers for the film and the amount of work it takes to make a film like this navigating the topic it had in the early 2000s. You should not be reporting on something you clearly don’t have the depth, intelligence or understanding to speak on this topic. I’ve seen your previous videos where you just report on what’s happening and keep it very neutral but this seemed very very biased, ignorant and a huge micro aggression borderline racist. Any time a black woman has an issue it’s up for debate or discussion. She was there, she know what happened, she’s telling her story and who are you to combat that? You’re weird and seriously need to stick to what you know cause this was not it.
