I remember when The Simple Life was first airing (so 2004 to 2007 or so), the media often referred to Nicole Richie as "the fat friend" in contrast to Paris Hilton. Nicole was tiny and not even remotely heavy or "thick" but the "ideal" body image during that time was tall and rail thin like Paris. I don't doubt this is what led Nicole Richie to becoming very thin (and then the media harped on her for that, saying she was setting a bad precedent for girls and young women; she could never win, I always felt bad for her). This is why I think the whole "ideal body image" thing is dumb, it changes all the time. For guys, when I was growing up (late 90's to mid 2000's), tall and lanky was the thing. Then it was the Abercrombie/swimmer's body that was big (2008 to 2013 or so), then it was the whole "dad bod" thing. Even though I love and work in media, it can be so toxic sometimes. Everyone's body is different.

I’m glad that being “thick” is celebrated now cuz my thighs are definitely thick af and I def don’t weigh 110lbs anymore but I feel like I look better now than I felt I looked when I was in my late teens/early 20’s. Self-image is a weird thing. 😩

That's how I think of it to, to put it in perspective. Nick at Night premiered when I was in middle/high school so that's how I saw 50s-70s sitcoms. So that's samesies for schoolkids watching Friends on Netflix and these movies. Oh Lord.
@heatherruth67343 жыл бұрын
I always think about how That 70s Show premiered in 1998, and took place in 1976 at the beginning of the series. I was 16 at the time - the same age as the kids on the show. I literally grew up with them, and actually formed quite an attachment to 70s culture. I even have an authentic original 1970 orange shag carpet in my wood paneled basement sitting next to our wood burning fireplace and our record player. Now if they were to make a show about the time when I was sixteen, which again, was 1998, and if the time difference was 22 years between the production of the show and the time in which it takes place, like That 70s Show did, it would have premiered last year, in 2020. This blows my mind. Also, did you know there is a car that runs on water? It runs on water, man!
@gsd7153 жыл бұрын
Why did you have to say something so mean! 😉😂💀😭😭 But seriously being around a middle school or high school age person is beyond a sad especially if you don't have kids and not around them in any age. I realize that friends who were pregnant 10-16 years ago that I haven't seen in almost 10 years now have kids who are teenagers now! The real mind twist for me is that in 2004 my husband was 19 and I had just turned 18 when we met (got married a few months later, it was online dating love at first sight) and if we had kids then or even a few years into our relationship that we could have a TEENAGER! I just started feeling like an adult when I turned 31 so the idea that I could have a child any older than 3 is too much for me. Time and thinking how everything related to it is a real brain twister.

I am so shocked when I go back to childhood movies and see people they used to call “fat” and how I as a child internalized they were “fat” too. Now when I see them they are usually skinny. So wild that body was seen as not skinny and that I believed that at the time too. Same with the sleepover movie.

I actually liked this movie back in 2006. But to be fair, I was a teenager in high school and most kids around that age have weird taste in stuff. But I can see why as an adult, this film would be laughable and a bit controversial.

Brittany knows hes been cheating on her because one of her friends calls and tells her. The worst part is it's not a "you need to confront that jerk" kind of conversation it's a "you better do something to make sure you hold on to him" kind of conversation!
@amylee89692 жыл бұрын
Yes, Brad was a jerk who was only after one thing…..sleeping around with girls. But Britney kind of did the same thing. She technically cheated by kissing Jesse on the mouth. But at least Jesse is a much better guy than Brad.
@azzz7279 Жыл бұрын
@@amylee8969 yes Britney & Brad were both in the wrong. Cheating is never okay under any circumstances. It’s not like Britney & Jesse slept together but she was being a little flirty with him and Brad & Winnie were sleeping together behind Britney’s back. Brad was a pos and only wanted 1 thing, and Winnie was a fake friend for sneaking around with Brad behind Britney’s back. One thing is at least Britney backed away from Jesse quickly and realized what she was doing and that she was being unfaithful
