@@rafewheadon1963why would you call her horrible for wanting to have a cesarean instead of natural birth? It's her body who nourished these two children of her and so, she gets to decide the way she wants to give birth. There's nothing wrong with choosing cesarean if you don't want to wait an extra month. It's called an elective procedure for a reason. Besides this, I agree that she was selfish and horrible when it came to raising them properly. All she cared about was her feelings because she was too career oriented and money loving to raise two human beings as a single mother. The boys deserved better.

I still never completely understood Charlie’s outburst. His mother, for all her faults still shows her son’s unconditional love and was willing to help Charlie with his financial problems. Yet dinner was the final straw for Charlie?
@lorimiller4301

He felt that by accepting her money he was now going to be controlled. Evelyn asking/telling Charlie to get ready for dinner was just too much for him. He could see that she would be pushing him to do things and he'd be obligated to do them if he cashed the cheque. So, no thanks mommy. I'll keep my own control and he frees himself by ripping it up. Hope that was somewhat helpful. Past my bedtime lol.

The probem is exactly that Charlie does not believe Evelyn had unconditional love for him or was willing to help with no strings attached. Alan, when presented with the context of their mother paying for his son's colleage out of the goodness of her heart, or with her using that as a tool for him to commit suicide, chose the later. I don't think either Alan or Charlie believed their mother loved or cared for them in any way.

Evelyn comforted Charlie when Chelsea left him, offered Alan legal help knowing what Judith could do (she won), went out her way to cheer Alan up after his second divorce. I mean, she was very flawed but there's no doubt she cared about her sons.
